Great launch!!

thunderclesthundercles Member UncommonPosts: 510

Just wanted to get on here and say how impressed I was of Eldevin's launch. After the X:debacle, I was losing hope in getting involved in mmorpgs/any other game from launch but Eldevin has done a great job. There have been a few bugs but nothing frustrating.

If you like runescape or sandbox games check this on out.

I tested it and and tried to play after launch. Would never say "GREAT LAUNCH!!" about a game like this. Anything other than a good to great launch would mean disaster for such a simple to make game. Not to say it doesn't have it's place, but I just tried out Villagers and Heroes and feel the same about it. Simple cartoonish visuals, basic game play, and free to play.

Help me understand why you would classify as basic game play? The crafting/gathering system is more indepth than 90% of the AAA games out there.

Reality isn't a factor here, thundercles. Once they see F2P, they just start vomiting talking points.

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Well yeah it's hard to crash servers when only 30 people play your game.

Eldevin is pretty complex for a browser game, but it feels more like a single player rpg that happens to have other people running around to me than an MMO.  People don't seem to group or communicate so far, they just run around questing.  The only time I see people try to communicate is if they have something they want to sell.  The dungeonfinder is completely useless because it creates a group as soon as 2 or more people queue and ports you to the dungeon entrance even though the group isn't even close to full or ready.  You have to turn autoattack back on after every single ability you use which gets very tedious after a while.  The top-down RPG style camera angle also really hurts the immersion for me compared to a more traditional 3rd person camera angle.  It's a decent free-to-play game, but as the only saying goes, you get what you pay for.

I think this is a fair assesment. I also think some of these problems more exactly the social ones are systemic of the gaming culture and not of the specific game. When I first logged on I was invited to a group for the xp boost. When ended up adding each other as friends so we can add each other whenever we're on. However, outside of those interactions I have had 0 conversations.

I had no idea about the dungeon finder tool or auto-attack problems. I haven't used either feature. I'm not a fan of auto attack since it takes away immersion for me, but that's me.

I agree the top down is awkward. I have to adjust the camera often especially in town.

Just wish it ran decently on my PC. Full screen is so choppy as to be nauseating, and a smaller resolution which runs fine causes eye-strain. Just my luck I suppose.

AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

Look at what you're comparing it to though. "the X:debacle" a game that took years to see the light of day. X and this game are like night and day in terms of resources required.

I would agree that the games are drastically different but the point was that the launch of X was awful. Much like many games. The point is that most modern games have a poor launch and this game launched what it advertised. If you say you are launching a turd and you launch a turd you had a great launch. If you say you are going to launch the most amazing game in the world and you launch a practically unplayable mess then you had a bad launch.

While I'd agree, to me it's like comparing microwaving a hotdog to preparing a souffle. One is just simply harder to make.

No...yer right. I should have upheld this games OBVIOUS credentials as the game that was mediocre and cartoonish "but had one of the best crafting systems ever".

    There...better?

No...the point was that if they didn't launch this well, they are doing something really wrong. Not one part of this game seems hard to create in comparison to other titles.

It's ok if most don't get what I mean...but Torchlight and the like did a great job back then. This being a great launch now...yeah

Yeah I am having trouble understanding what you mean. I think publishing a mmorpg is probably an extremely daunting task. I would assume you have an indepth understanding of programming and publishing to make the assumption that "not one part of the game seems hard to create compared to other titles."
