We got Horizons and Shadowbane on their last leg, we got Irth online and Dark and light.. well they speak for themselves. Now my question for everyone is which mmorpg dev's are gunna pack their shit and leave? Lets take a vote on this one
1. Horizons
2. Shadowbane
3. Irth online
4. Dark and Light
5. Anarchy online
6. RYL
Oh and by the way happy holidays everyone..

You forgot one obvious game:
Star Wars Galaxies
I give it about 6 months. After all the AOL-using console kiddies get bored with all the lame ass low lvl quests and get fed up with all the bugs and whatnot then by that time SOE/LA will have put the final nail into the coffin in one of the most original games there was.
SOE is the devil. SWG has been ruined.
AO is very much alive and kickin', I would imagine it will run till AoC is released. Then everyone at AO will probly have a special offer at AoC.
Im just hoping they will keep the same gaming quality they have in AO in AoC. Just make the release a little better then AO, if anyone remember that release hehe
I think all of em
i think asherons call or shadowbane,i think star wars will stay for awhile longer, just because it star wars
Good,Bad, I'm the guy with the gun!-Ash
Ryl will be gone within the next two years. It's like the Earth & Beyond of fantasy MMOs.
Irth won't be shutting down for a long time, look at the forums, there are people saying they've bought the game, and according to MHS, they are doing a lot better than anticipated.
I say Horizons, it isn't possible for them to run a game that big with the number of subscribers they have now. I give them 9-10 months.

No Userbar here, sorry to disappoint.
Horizons will probably go first, and SWG will shut down the end of this upcoming year ( 2006 )
How do you have AO on there?
...and where the hell is swg, heh.

yeah you mind explaining how AO ended up there? yes its old, but its still in the top 7 player voted games on mmorpg.com.
I miss DAoC
SwG, give it a few months. I suspect if they don't get a sudden rise in subscriptions, it'll close. Who knows, maybe someone else can do something with it. There were rumours (worth stressing) about the original code being bid on.
To be honest, I'd like to see a whole new Star Wars mmo take..
Anyway, DnL soon after.. it's been plummeting on the rankings here. SoG is bearable in a UO without the fun way. Yes, yes, they have a few months to sort it all out but if this has taken them 4 years... Fairly happy I didn't pay the money for a Pioneer account
I seriously did get mixed up with AO and SWG i just couldent remember Soe's horrid.. anyway, sorry for the confusion.
I agree that SWG is going downhill fast (and it deserves too ), but I think it'll still hang in there. Why? Well look at Matrix Online. A complete disaster since release, but it's still alive. Plus they have started showing in-game advertising to supplement revenue, and they have all those SOE players with "station pass" access. I don't think SOE will "let" SWG die, I think they will just keep plugging away and perhaps follow the Matrix Online model when they evernutally hit rockbottom.

Played: Age of Conan, DDO, Saga of Ryzom, SWG, DaOC, MxO, EQ2, and so on...
Wish List: Jumpgate Evolution, Star Wars: TOR, Star Trek
Fung Wan Online is in its last throws as you can tell by the advertisements on this site.
Also there is Planet Side, The Matrix Online that are getting too small to support themselves.
AO and Shadowbane won't go for a while(they have players). I think maybe SWG or Planetside.

It's likely to have "SOE" printed somewhere on the box.

Exactly.
Personally, i can see the death of AO on the horizon. The only reason i say this is that i come from a family of MMO players (Me, father, brother) and all three of us used to play AO. I was the first to drop as i think the whole concept of the game let alone crafting is way too complicated. My brother dropped a couple of months later for the same reasons. Only my father remains, but this is only because he does not see the value in anyo other MMO's yet.
I think (as the big Conan fan he is) my father will switch to AoC when it is released unless anything else catches his eye in the mean time. To be honest, the ONLY reason he stays at all now is for his mates and not really the game itself, so if a significant number of them migrate, so would he.
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
Swg has a really good chance of being the next one to bite the dust. In fact Im sure in it current incarnation it will fail.
The question is when.
ITs going to take some time to fail cause of the age old addage of enough advetising can make even a flop make money.
The way its advertised on spike/g4 and a few other stations it will stick around a little while.
I am not entirely sure SWG will die that easily.
The Star Wars franchise is HUGE and perhaps even running the game in the red will be better then the bad PR hit this business will take from shutting this thing down.
I am not aware of the deal that is done between SoE and Lucasarts but I am pretty certain LA will have a say in wether or not to shut this thing down.
There is more at stake here then just this one game.
Keep in mind that George can run this game with his pocket change and you can say what you like about the man but he is dedicated to his Saga.
I believe SWG will continue to run for a considerable amount of time in one form or another.
My speculations only though.
As to the topic, I believe Neocron will be our next funeral.

I would like to start off by saying that I LOATHE both the way NGE was rolled out and what it did to the game I enjoyed.
That said:
SWG aint going to die. LucasArts has too much invested in it to allow it. They feature it on their website regularly as well and anyone who gets the LucasArts Homing Beacon knows that they refer to it a LOT in their newsletter as well. Furthermore, even if SWG lost half it's subscription base over the NGE they'd still be over 125k users. Which is more than enough to cut a profit. They'd have to drop below 100k players to be anywhere near in danger. And probably more like 50k or less. The game, as has been stated numerous times, has payed off it's initial investment costs and even the re-development costs multiple times over. It's in 'maintenance' mode for all practical purposes. As long as they can cover operating costs (which can be reduced to near nothing if necessary) and still cut a profit it'll stay around. And, as other's have said... it's not strictly a question of if the game is profitable at this point. Cancelling SWG would be a bad PR move by LucasArts. I doubt they'll shut the door on SWG till long after it's really dead.
I honestly don't see any MMORPG's on this list that are really in danger of failing. D&L is still in beta. Saying it's going to die is silly at this point since it hasn't been released. We just don't know. Without knowing what their budget and funding situation is there's no way to know if it'll fail or not. The game isn't stable right now because it's a beta. Give it a rest. Hell, EQ, in beta, was known to have the test server go down for 18-24 hours at a time when things went wrong. And it's STILL going strong now.
Irth isn't going to die, it's already beating their internal projections. I've said this before: If they can survive 6 months and get the fixes in that it needs in that time IRTH will be one to watch for a huge success story.
