Yeah I really loved the game when it first came out could not get enough of it then I slowly lost interest which I was hoping would not happen but it did and i've tried to get back into the game but just cannot does not do anything for me.
But I wish the game a long healthy life with its player base.
When TESO will be released, GW2 will be another "generic-over-hyped-and-forgotten-MMO" like there are a lot out there.
Just think, if GW2 had a monthly fee, how many players would be still playing it? It would change to F2P in few months after release, just like other generic MMOs out there.
The only good thing of GW2 is being B2P, but ther eare far better B2P MMOs out there.

From all beta leaks ESO will be much like SWToR and GW2 having a baby. Not sure you will find what you are looking for there. Guess we can hope.
The fundamental problem with is that it rejects the staples of MMOs and yet aspires to capture the consumers of them.
The lack of questing diminishes any sense of lore or context that has been established by games innumerable. It's not to say that questing has to be rote or endless chains of retrievals and checklist. But we need something to anchor and contextual what's happening. Dialogue in events is scant, hearts are just checklists. While some events are really well done, the most are forgetable. Personal story was a good start, but it was only one avenue for the player to immerse themselves. The storyline of the guilds was neglected, there are no class stories - nothing. The choices made during character creation cease to matter shortly thereafter.
To overcome the shortcomings of temporary content, ArenaNet ignorantly (or defiantly) wants to place the living story dungeons into fractals. This rests on the assumptions most players want to or can do fractals. Comparing this game to other games like Rift, WoW, or even LoTRO - you'll notice a stark contrast. Those games retain the list of dungeons that have been steadily released into the game. LoTRO in particular handles dungeons well - you can create a dungeon, set its difficult and level range, and then play it. This adds trememdous replayability. Guild Wars 2 could seriously benefit from this.
Instead, ArenaNet has given us no dungeons. We still have the original 8. Their attempt at a dungeon finder is an absolute joke. When games in beta have workign dungeon finders or group finders, you've done something wrong.
Guild Wars 2 does a good job of painting a great tapestry. Yet many of us bought the game hoping there'd be more behind it. Instead we've found a dusty wall.
Their temporary content was a mistake from the very beginning, some posters here already gave accurate insight to why that is the case.
Generally speaking GW2's living story, personal story, the things that were hyped and lauded immensely before the game launched, are very much lackluster for me personally, for example the story quality of one SWTOR stomps hard all over this, it's just vastly better in every respect.
That was the thing that disappointed me at the start while the horrendous grind made me stop playing this game completely.
The problem, for me, with GW2 is that the updates have been of a type that is not interesting to me at all: more jumping puzzles, "Living Story" (zzzz…), holiday events, class tweaks -- it's all well and good.
But if they ever bring in an honest-to-goodness real, full-fledged expansion, I'll consider actually coming back to this game.
Players need to be more realistic about how often a MMO can put out good content updates. Being the worlds Best-Updated MMO is what any MMO should look to be.
If new content is temporary it does not get much use. It does not take a brain the size of a planet to work that one out. Updates should focus on more content and a better end game.

I don't understand your reasoning. You're saying that the release of TESO will actually change GW2 into a generic game? Will GW2 suddenly have less and poor features?
And surely everyone can see that GW2 compared to the most traditional MMORPG's is at least slightly different. Which is enough to say that it's not really that generic.
As stated many times I am NOT GW2 hater! The game has a variety of innovations that no other game has come close to. That said, the living story drove me from the game. Although I was able to play most of the content the meaningless story and monotonous grind for an ever growing collection of armor/weapon skins to much to bare. Every release of new content replaced the idea of being in a world with the impression of playing an arcade game. It just felt like my character was not progressing.
Could we correct one thing: First sentence of this article declares GW2 as "F2P", which it is NOT. It's a buy-2-play game that requires a box purchase in order to play the game. There is a difference between the two. Now, carry on with the rest of the rants.
Fractals are about the only good thing they have added in 15 months. The rest of it has been just awful. Between the terrible living story updates and the just pathetic holiday updates I don't hold much hope for this game ever being what it was capable of being.
To be fair if you compare their first living story update with the most recent one you can see they have improved quite a bit with implementation and content. You gotta see that while what they do is still some what trial and error to see if the community ACTUALLY likes it in game and not just in theory and HOW they actually like it. It has gotten much better in my opinion and the quality of the content is very polished.
All in all though, yes they should be thinking about releasing some sort of hefty expansion soon.

Originally posted by tom_gore I have to agree with most of the stuff in this post. They should reconsider their current route and start working on a proper expansion.
By the sound of it, the team working on these 'updates' is actually quite small, it might be that in order to create a full sized expansion, they would need to draft in dev's etc from other titles their working on, which it seems NCSoft has several in progress. But yes, i do agree that GW2 would benefit from a full sized expansion
are predefined stories created and run by the developers really what we consider player decisions influencing the game world?
Because I don't think it counts to be honest, even if there's multiple possible outcomes.
I don't know, all I can say is that I feel a whole lot less influential when my decisions have to be chosen from a predefined list that's only available for a predefined time.
Especially the latter kills it. In any game your options will always be limited to what's actually been programmed, even in the most free sandbox you can't do everything. But at least you can decide for yourself which ones to do when and in what order. Taking even that away doesn't really leave much I'd say.
We are the bunny. Resistance is futile. ''/\/\'''''/\/\''''''/\/\ ( o.o) ( o.o) ( o.o) (")("),,(")("),(")(")
Sure its had a lot of updates. And some of them have been fun while others have been crap. But wheres the extension of the personal story? Where are the meaningful new zones? Where is the new dragon? Where are the additional skills or wpn combos? Where are the new races? Will there be any new classes? How about new dungeons?
So while I play this game and like it a lot, not having expansion type content has turned a wonderful game into a very boring one. How many more Orrians do i have to kill? How many times do I have to kill Troll or Boar? How many world explorations can I take? How many more times can I sac the same dam keeps?
I srsly hope ANET is working on something big, otherwise I sense a very large exodus next spring.
most of the mmos dont even have updates adding content in a year
and then its just a expansion that just add same kind of quests, reskined monsters and new gear
so other games = good updates
GW2 updayes = bad updates?
gw2 will have expansion too at some point dont forget the cantha and elona
so stop trolling already
game changed alot from its first months
I'm sorry, but which MMOs don't get updated in a year? I think you might be talking horse manure kind sir. The longest between updates in a MMO I have experienced was WoW with its 3-4 monthly schedule (but they are large updates). Most MMOs update monthly.
They have come out and said they are not working on an expansion, and were instead focusing on the living story, which is why this article and responses exist.
None of the new content in GW2 has been compelling, and most of it has felt force fed and goes against the core of what GW2 was supposed to be - a dynamic changing world. Not a guided story tour. They could have added events and changes to the world in an organic way by making world events, but instead force feed you some uninspired story about a cliché villain in a bunch of instances.
The reason people are annoyed is because GW2 had great potential, but everything they have done since launch, aside from fractals, has been terrible. This isn't the game we all got excited for. Hell, it isn't even deserving of the Guild Wars name anymore. The first game was a masterpiece, and this one has turned into a sad cash shop revolving door of kids stories.

It's been a year and 8 months... Guild Wars 2 should have had more permanent content, features, and updates by now. There is zero excuse for the lack of lasting content and crappy "living" story that they keep trying to shove down people's throats. Zero.
