Eldevin has recently hit retail release and we've taken some time to check back in on the game to see how things have changed since our last look. See what we discovered before heading to the comments to chat.
Eldevin is a 3d browser based MMORPG that will feel very familiar to players of action RPG (ARPG). Hunted Cow bills Eldevin as a story driven RPG that takes place in a fantasy world on the brink of war. At the beginning of the game you find yourself lost in the void and trying to make your way back home. Your friend and short lived mentor make your way to a tear in the fabric of space and time and you find your way back to Eldevin in the opening tutorial. Right away you will be exposed to the underlying dark humor of Eldevin that weaves its way into the game.

This game is surprisingly good this far. The amount of detail the have put into it is amazing. i'm still level 10 but i've been enjoying the game a lot. Devs seem to be listening and they plan on adding housing. (with the world props there is a ton of potential).
Only thing that I'm really not sure about is the Cash Shop, they sell inventory space and gold.
I encourage you to try it, you might get a pleasant surprise. If the late game is as good then this might be a real gem
I think the tablet option might work for this game, but it should not be overlooked on the PC. I put more hours into this title since release than I was able to tolerate on some recent AAA titles. There's something crunchy and comfortable about this game. I don't know how else to say it. Let yourself get past the tutorials quests and the initial tour of Eldevin, then it settles into a more challenging and enjoyable pace.

I have to strongly agree with this. I'm not sure what it is but it triggers that sense of wonder really early on. I think a lot of new AAA mmos fail greatly at doing that. Also the amount of detail put into it gets you interested on exploring.
Another thing they have on point is their quest system, lore is quite simple but well written and it gives you a summary in first person describing what you need to do. You also have to select an active quest which makes me focus on a task at a time. I love that.
The overal UI is really quite good. I never find myself confused using it.
I would prefer something that did not always point at the ground, raising the camera angle would help!
Other than that, it did have a couple of minor bugs that do not stop from enjoying the game once you are aware of them and play to avoid them.
I find that annoying, personally. When I play an MMO, it's usually a priest, archer or sometimes mage. I like to create the look of the character based on what the character will be. So between not being able to really try out different builds and not being able to create the look that I want for the final character is a rather big negative for me.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

I wasn't expecting much with Eldevin at first but past its old school graphics and basic structure lies a very non-linear open world game with tons to do.
I'm enjoying "living" in this world which I can say I haven't enjoyed in many MMO's as of late. Just wish they would add housing and this will pretty much be exactly what I expect gameplay wise out of Shroud of the Avatar, a nice simple world that has good core features, is fun to play and live in and has a decent economy and community.
Surprisingly enough though the game even has some raid content, it's quite a bag of surprises.
I feel the reviewer didnt quite "get" this game. This has an old school vibe. In my opinion it is a lot more enjoyable than many graphic intense games out today.
Lol well you can do what I did then and put all of your points in ranged and spellpower and totally ignore everything else, then be like oh I should have focused on either ranged or spellpower, it's ok I will just reallocate the points, I haven't confirmed their status yet, What? I just wanted to view the statistical change but points are locked in No confirmation needed? "it's ok I just made this character, I will delete it" oh what? I can't delete my character? I now have a Mage/Ranger - true glass canon, make that brittle glass canon.
Apparently you get a free re-spec every 60 days, or you can buy one at the shop, too. Don't throw away that toon just yet. I've also heard their devs are very responsive to their forums. Maybe a confirm button will be on the way. This makes me wonder if there is a build tool online somewhere already or not. I'm glad some of you get the "crunchy" feel I'm talking about.

Did enough staring at the ground all the time in prior games. Soon as I saw that limited 2 1/2 D effect you have I stopped.
Might be a fun game, but I have to be able to look around in a game,
Same reason I didn't like it and click to move it feels confusing now that wasd is the default for every mmo.

Eldevin is where I'm spending my time these days. Checked back in at launch after taking long break from the beta and haven't checked out yet.
Playing this game for free up to level 18 so far has been perfectly satisfying. The community is enjoyable, dungeons are fun, crafting/gathering and trading feel worthwhile. The quest writing is very entertaining to read.
There are some gripes and minor annoyances, but Dev's are involved and responding to suggestions on their forums daily. The lead designer Mojawk even spent a few hours last night chatting with everyone in-game and running group content. Their dedication to making a fun game even better is why I'll be subbed going forward.
There are many games that look better, play better and do exactly what this game does in terms of gameplay. Looks aren't everything, that's true, yet if you can get everything something has to offer with an added bonus of the alternative looking better, why would you not pick the alternative? The only thing I could imagine swaying one toward this game is nostalgia.

I played this game, apparently my play time is 19 hours.
What can say.... this game is the Tetris of MMOs. It's not really great, not very complex, the graphics suck... and yet, somehow, it's rewarding and fun.
In my first few minutes in Eldevin I told my wife, "oh boy, here we go with another F2P old school attempt." but I pushed on to give it a fair shake. She glanced over at my screen a couple of times as she watched YT videos on her machine.
...
My wife had gone to bed long before I pulled myself away a few hours later.
...
The following night as I played, I noticed she was now not only glancing at the screen from time to time, but pausing and watching as I raked the earth in my plot of farm land or descended into a cave to search for the merchants wife
I am really enjoying this world and more importantly I feel attached to my character. The quests are simple yet believable and the combat is kind of addicting. If I had to compare the experience to games I have played in the past I would say it has an Ultima Online feel to it with a sprinkle of Baldur's Gate. I never did play Runescape although I can see the similarities from screenshots and videos i have seen.
I have only reached level 6 so I have hopefully only scratched the surface of the game. I have not participated in PvP yet and really have no idea if that is something I am even concerned with for now.
While the graphics are fairly simple by today's standard, it more than makes up for it in game play. The game is just plain fun.
There are a couple of things I do find a bit annoying.
One is the camera angle, although I thought I read somewhere that they are looking at addressing that in the future. I keep trying to see just a little bit further ahead of my character. It's not the end the world though and I can certainly live with it but it did distract me from time to time.
The second thing is the click to move. It could very well be that I am so accustomed to moving with the WASD (or g13 in my case) that it just takes getting used to again. I would prefer a RMB to pan camera and LMB/WASD to move, but again it is nothing game breaking.
I have a feeling that tonight is the night my wife registers an account and tries it out. She is quite fond of crafting/farming in MMOs so this should be right up her alley.

You and I both know that addressing the camera angle is just NOT going to happen in this game. It would require a complete graphics overhaul. The broken neck syndrome and the absence of WASD is just unforgivable in today's games. Once you get over your nostalgia you will be moving on, the heap of negatives will eventually overwhelm you.
Thought I would check out the forums over there and found this.

Good stuff!
The devs and you do not see the complexity of changing the camera angle. It really is a complete redesign if they want to let the avatar look up and look around.
