Nothing indicates that there will be a game worth buying until Adellion.
Well, perhaps some offline single player games. But that's not relevant, is it?
The future: Adellion Common flaw in MMORPGs: The ability to die casually Advantages of Adellion: Dynamic world (affected by its inhabitants) Player-driven world (beasts won't be an endless supply of mighty swords, gold will come from mines, not dragonly dens) Player-driven world (Leadership is the privilege of a player, not an npc)
MMORPGs used to provide a unique alternative to standard FPS or single player PC games. Now, I strive to find uniqueness among MMORPGs.
I've played EQ, PlanetSide, SWG, EQII, WoW, EVE and a host of online FPS games like CS, HL2, DOD, and all the mods, Battlefield 2, etc. The FPS's are what they are and they seem to evolve along a linear path, BF2 providing a nice balance of a multitude of new and old features. As far as MMORPGs go though, the evolutionary path is not linear - which is good - but at the same time it produces alot of the same thing wrapped up in different packaging and advertising. Most of the time in an MMORPG I can't help but get flashbacks to EQ and feel like the entire MMORPG experience is based on killing rats... Lots and LOTS of rats...
WoW provided a breath of fresh air, but even WoW was getting a little stale before the battlefields and some of the newer content.
I have just recently discovered EVE thanks in part to the free-trial offer and have discovered a new an unique experience that at least for the short-term is proving interesting and entertaining. We'll see in a few months... I'm still playing WoW after a 6 month departure from the game. It continues to entertain, though not quite as much as the first 60 levels. Getting alts up to 60 just isn't as much fun as it was breaking all that new ground with your first character...
Smells like someone is burning coffee or popcorn here in the office...
Anyway, I don't know what game I'm buying next. Pirates of the Burning Sea looks intriguing... Star Trek online? Well, at least it's not fantasy based... That genre seems a bit over-exploited... If nothing else, after my trial offer with Eve expires I might start subscription to that... It'd be nice if I found some North American players though... or maybe even one or two in my time zone!

Death by tea cup. Now, why didn't I think of that.

I'll retire from MMOs once I hit 60 in WoW (I'm at 55 atm...) and get back to D2
The only MMO that interests me is Age of Conan, I'll be waiting for that
