Rift, Tera, or Secret World?

CernanCernan Member UncommonPosts: 360

So it's been a while since I've played any of these games.  I actually bought the xpac for Rift and have yet to play it.  Now I'm cutting back on costs and looking for just one F2P for casual play for the next few months or so.  I basically just want to do some occasional dungeons and questing, maybe light pvp.  I've played both and mostly remember how they play.  I loved Secret World's quick dungeons, but pvp was a little lackluster there and more so in Rift.

Anyway, anyone have any recommendation based on current pops and ability to ease back.  My mage in Rift was maxed before xpac so I'd need to level the final 10 levels.  My SW dude was questing in Transylvania area when I stopped playing.  I think my healer in Tera is 40ish.  GW2 was just ok, so no need to mention it.  I don't have any interest in going back to play it.  I 'd rather play one of these.  Just seeing if people have ideas about current player base and easing back in without knowing any of the new stuff going on.

EDIT ** In case it wasn't clear, I've played all 3 so know their initial strengths at least at launch.  Just wondering about current playerbase and activity levels.  Which would be easiest to get back into with some random grouping.

All three of these game are really different, it depends on what you really want.

Raiding: Rift, rift has about 3 endgame raids right now, and their pretty good!

PVP: Tera, the pvp in TERA isn't amazing but its better then Rift's and TSW's pvp, imo.

Story: TSW, the stories in TSW are fantastic, and continue to be.

Playerbase: I think Tera and Rift continue to have a stable player base, so does TSW; but its in the lower side since it is B2P and rift and tera are F2P.

I'm currently playing Rift, i love the game and what their offering.

for me personally out of the 3 titles id have to say rift, tera while beautiful lacks character depth and secret world is just...bizzare.

The raids and end game in rift is pretty sweet and character customization always lends a hand to immersion. rifts f2p is second to none.

well you said rift or tera..

Rift in my opinion, was pretty fun back at launch and the f2p launch, you can purely lvl to 60 in pvp bg's takes a bit long but at least you will have those pvp points :P and dont worry about buying the 10-20-30-40-50 pvp sets as the game auto balances gear until 60.. the raids where pretty fun hmm..

Tera in my Opinion, at launch one of the best Open World PvP game ever.. well for me at least :D, this game I fell in love with and kept making new toons just to lvl to 60 it had its benefits.. dungeons are mechanic base but once you figure out what each boss does and the range where you have to be and what part you have to hide on because very easy to do dungeons, low lvls not so much but like manya's core was fun to learn but frastrating.. Now the new dungeons are sad b/c there just too easy after doing manya's core.. guess they dumb it down a bit for f2p IDK!!

anyways having multi 60 you can make more money in doing dailies, dailies are a huge part of the game.. you can run dungeons at 60 on each character if you wanted to gear them all and make money selling gear, some dungeons have cooldowns and some have 1 day entry a day..(manya's core, WHHM) and i believe WHnormal mode you can do 5 a day or something idk but it increases if your vip

the pvp hmm dont expect open world pvp and bgs become very much a job in that game.. you will have to buy or farm your tier12 save that for making your conjunction then farm even more to make your shit for what its called lol..

    best of luck to ya

Thanks for the input thus far.  Of the 3 I probably loved SW the best as far as interestiing questing, puzzles, and fun quick dungeons.  However,  that much said...even when I was playing 3 months into game the population was dropping.  It was hard sometimes finding groups.  You could wait for an hour or so typing in chat to find groups.  Now much later I'm not sure that would be any better at all.

I think I'll try and give Rift a shot even though I haven't played in forever.

Out of those three I would say that TSW has the better quest system.  Doesn't seem like a cookie cutter quest grinder like Rift and Tera.  However the combat is kinda wonky/clunky.  Out of those three I would say Tera's combat is probably the most fun.  Rift is just to much "meh" and doesn't really stand out in any particular area.  So my answer probably wasn't to helpful except maybe to help rule out Rift.

I've played about 4 months of the secret world, 18 months of rift, and a day of tera. In my limited experience, I would say that rift offers a more diverse experiences whereas the secret world offerse a more unique and immersive experience. Tera felt more arcadey and shallow than the other two. But it is also the game I have spent the least amount of time with out of the three.
