I have to echo Gaia_Hunter's sentiment. Living World content is a really great optional set of content for players to enjoy or ignore. While this article makes it appear that the new content vanishes every two weeks, forcing players to rush through it, that's hardly the case. The way it actually works is that every two weeks there is a patch containing new story content, dungeons, PvP or WvW maps, balance changes, etc. The new Living Story content will usually stay for a month or longer, creating significant overlap in multiple living stories happening at the same time. These can also overlap with holiday content, which lends itself to some incredibly fun and chaotic cross-over battles. It should also be noted that some content and changes seem to be permanently part of the game; such as Scarlet's forces randomly attacking different regions on giant air-ships. Interested players can rush to save the residents of the area, gaining special rewards and achievements in the process.
Another very strange and inaccurate statement was about the, "temporary content and its close ties to the game's gem store." Not sure where they got this information, but the only thing you can get in the Gem Store is completely optional outfits, mini pets, dye packs, and things that give no benefit to actual gameplay. In fact, ArenaNet usually releases several new weapon and armor skins for both the gameworld and the gem store. And if hard core players want the store versions, they can always trade in-game gold for gems and buy it. This of course will take some time saving the right amount of gold to transfer, but it's no different than running dungeons or fractals or WvW for desired gear.
All-in-all, the article reads as though the author hasn't played the game since launch and is basing everything on the small set of griping players on Reddit and other sites. I personally, am part of the greater majority who would rather have more FREE content every couple weeks than a completely stale world with updates every 6 months or longer. It's a bit shocking that somehow AreneNet is able to provide more content updates than any other MMO with no monthly fees.
Perhaps "most frequently updated", but certainly not "most updated content wise". Any 1 major MoP content update has added more content to WoW than all combined content updates of GW2 thus far. And again, im tlaking pure content additions, not changes or mechanic updates.
I actually quit this game because of jumping puzzles. I'm a completionist and perfectionist, and one day I spent over an hour trying to jump to a stupid vantage viewpoint thingy that, despite all the frustration and RAGE I had in not getting it, the completionist in me demanded I get it, only to stop and say "What am I doing?" and that was that
This was before they started with the living story updates. The completionist perfectionist in me probably would have ended up quitting the game anyways due to being forced to complete the game on THEIR pace instead of my own due to the ticking clock thing. TEMPORARY content is such a stupid idea and a great way to get new players to never join your game once they see all the things they can never get just because they were late to the party, and I don't know why MMO companies don't realize that yet.
Living world has gotten too much recently . I'm a pretty casual player but I could keep up with 1 living world story or event bit to have three and four at a time, and so many achievements is too much and a turn off.
It doesn't matter how frequent the updates are, what matters more is how much content you get in said updates and how long that content will last the majority of the player base before releasing another update.
Most useless updates i've ever seen. Nothing worth even considering doing. Temporary content everything. Reward system is honestly retarded u get absolutely nothing worth the time invested into doing events themselves.
This is a good "2-3 month" mmo. I advise anyone to stay away from it. After u reach end-level and properly geared up (which is easy to get), u will extremely disapointed in what anet offers u (which is a big 0).
The whole "2week update/event" thing is the bigest marketing scam that was ever created in mmos. They deliver nothing of worth.
Then you have these ridiculous whines about temporary content, like is some great evil. Well, let's take a realistic look at that, shall we? How many expansions has WoW had where they've added permanent content. (All of them, right?) New raids, new dungeons, lots of stuff, yes? When was the last time you saw someone raiding in the old content? Aside from the rare nostalgia tour it's dead, wasted content these days. Hooray, it's permanent, yet it might as well not even be there. Now let's compare that to GW2 and the temporary content. Halloween has come and gone, and people were packing into the content just like they did last year. Why? It was a change, it was "fresh" once again instead of stale, old stuff that sits there forever unused. The Clock Tower once again drew masses of people. The mini-zone constantly had swarms of people, just like last year. Had that been permanent, always there, do you really think people would have gone back after all this time?
Before you whine about permanent content vs temporary, go take a look at the old, cobweb filled permanent content from other games that is sitting there dead and idle. You really think that's better?
You are missing the point. By making the content temporary you are "forcing" players to either make time for it while it's available or miss out on experiencing it entirely.
Permanent content on the other hand can be enjoyed pretty much at leisure by almost any player, and hence is preferable even if it eventually becomes irrelevant.. (and if you design the game right, it doesn't have to)
Some players prefer to do things on their time table. Maybe this month their plan is to focus on WvWvW, but along comes some new temporary content update and the only way they can enjoy it is to stop what they had planned and do this now, while they can.
I played GW2 for a short while, (1 char, level 15) and the completionist in me writhed in agony from the daily quests, which frequently had tasks I couldn't do that day, so all my work was tossed out the window and the counter reset with all new tasks the next day.
Holiday content in any MMO has annoyed me greatly for just this reason, I don't want my carefully laid plans disrupted (and yes, I plan quite extensively) by some new content patch that I must do now, or forever miss it.
Toss in the fact that some of this temporary content hasn't exactly been of the greatest quality, either in terms of bugs or just weak design and there's s good case for not making temporary content ever, even at holidays.

Been enjoying this game since beta. It's had its rough patches, but for the past few months, much of the content has been increasingly challenging.
Really starting with Queen's Jubille, we've had Liadri, Tequatl, new fractals, tower of nightmare, etc...
PvPer will now earn gold. WvW getting a new map for overflowers...
It's good for those who like it and I'm amongst them. Still surprised as to how much hate the game attracts, though...
When will some people learn that critique =/= hate.
Probably about the time others learn that hate =/= critique.
Don't be ridiculous, there is very little hate on these boards if you read the posts properly, lots of players enjoy or enjoyed what GW2 has to offer, including me, and are mainly disappointed in the direction Arenanet has taken the game. If all you and some others see is hate then I'm afraid the problem is with your perception which needs readjustment, but don't worry I'll send the boys around to make the necessary adjustments, payment via gems is OK.

I'll bet majority of players never saw most of the GW2 gameworld to much occupide with dungeon grinding specially after fractals.
While GW2 main goal was present a huge open gameworld with dynamic events and alot to explore this completely failed. After 4 months game world was EMPTY most you could do solo(after beta they implemented a patch where suddenly all mobs and champions where easy to kill one of biggest mistakes ARENET made no challenge any more) no real challenge and the world bosses where abandoned. Rewards sucked major from champions and bosses also reason why many did dungeon grinding.
Game should have been about exploring open world the dynamic events with very tough challenge dungeons should have been less importend. This was all not the case thus for me GW2 failed and i quit after 6 months(WvW was fun for while but system and how it was implemented also failed misrable).
Result ive not played GW2 for 8 months and never will againi blame partyly community and devs.

Being a HUGE GW1 fan, vanquishing 100% of the areas several times I waited impatiently for this game for a LONG time. Not being able to solo, poor isometric view, foes spawning too fast, and not being able to casually play, and worst of all… NO ONE PLAYS!! creates a poor playing experience . Am I going to have switch severs to find a group.. What I don’t understand is if something is broken and you are having a hard time finding new players while keeping old players why don’t you sit back and do a little soul searching. I hope by writing this post I will be able to earn Karma, diamonds, laurels, coins, achievement points, guild points and whatever else I am missing so I can get a new armor skin!! Can you just go back to GW1 and add jumping… I’ll be happy
Fractals are about the only good thing they have added in 15 months. The rest of it has been just awful. Between the terrible living story updates and the just pathetic holiday updates I don't hold much hope for this game ever being what it was capable of being.
Not in to fractals, but agreed on the rest!
Holiday events are mostly unplayable after the first day or maybe two, just not enough players interested in going in just to find it is ...
No offense, but you all seem to be mostly griping about a situation that was not handed to you on a silver platter. If you're getting your knickers in a twist over how terrible the seasonal events are, try considering what they're like in other MMO's. And, to top that dessert off, how many of those MMO's can even be considered playable or fun anymore?
I'm not saying this is the best game in the world, but let's take a step back and be grateful that we even have something like this to waste our time on!! There aren't exactly a line up of better options just yet.
When TESO will be released, GW2 will be another "generic-over-hyped-and-forgotten-MMO" like there are a lot out there.
Just think, if GW2 had a monthly fee, how many players would be still playing it? It would change to F2P in few months after release, just like other generic MMOs out there.
The only good thing of GW2 is being B2P, but ther eare far better B2P MMOs out there.
Please keep in mind that TESO is not a real MMO either but rather a single player CO-OP game with a sub.TESO will have no effect on GW2 as the latter is killing itself on its own.
The only thing keeping me playing right now is my guildies with whom I have been playing for the last 5 years.EQN has the potential to steal a lot of players from GW2 if they do their living world thing right...at least SoE is making a true MMORPG.
In the land of Predators, the lion does not fear the jackals...

Then you must selectively read what you want since in the years I've been lurking here, trolling, flaming, and baiting is quite prevalent.
Also, condescension works poorly in portraying one's point of view. He may enjoy GW2, you obviously don't any longer. Fanboy or troll, extremists are not subject to rational thinking or debate, and often make personal a supposed impartial argument.
One of the reasons I left was that there were too many Damn jumping puzzles. If I wanted to jump around all day like a looney I would go and play a platform game not an mmorpg.
I thought they said they would be creating new dynamic events in the game world on a regular basis? I could be wrong though, but it seems they went away from what they advertised pre-launch. I thought by now, the original game world would have a ton more dynamic events, the cities were supposed to have 30+ minigames, and instanced player housing (neighborhoods) would be significant horizontal content.
I think the stuff like super adventure box and the kite thing are neat though. But content wise, Id rather have something the size and scope of what FFXIV is doing with their first patch, than have smaller updates every couple weeks.
But what do I know heh. I'm just making observations based on info from this site haha
Read Fiontar's post. It explains what happened. A-net strayed away from that, and went with the Living Story concept, which in effect, gave us "The World's Most-Updated MMO". Fiontar, and others, including myself, have brought this up for months now. It's too bad, since GW2 could've been so much better without wasting resources on the Living Story.
This is the type of press release that totally pisses me off in regards to ArenaNet.
Is that what all the contrived "Living World" BS was about? So they can say "we update the game more than anybody"? This is why I was subjected to Super Atari Graphics Box Pt. 1 & 2?
Spare me.
All I want is a solid MMORPG that can deliver meaningful story/'world content on a regular schedule. I'll pay a subscription as long as the pay cycle matches content release. I'll pay for DLC.
I'm SO ready to put down GW2 for good. 2014 couldn't come any sooner.
The pre launch sell of GW2 was such a scam in comparison to what's actually in game and the current direction.
Hey, at least they're doing some class balancing... what like a year and change later. Well done.
"As far as the forum code of conduct, I would think it's a bit outdated and in need of a refre *CLOSED*"
Lol look like there're alot people dont like the way ArenaNet doing. Why you guys feel sad just because of not achieving something? Why can you just simply enjoy it and let it go when the time comes? Well, at least it works for me

Ppl are different. For example I love jumping puzzles. I don't understand ppl who can't do it.
Regarding frequent updates and living story:
I like it. Because I like frequent updates. It's too boring if nothing changed in the game.
If I like an update it will complete it. If not - then skip.
Sometimes updates more interesting, sometimes not.
I like for example bazzar of Four wings, or Crown pavilion and solo arenas wiht Liandri. But I skip S.Adventure BOX completely.
I know fractals here now. But I more like WWW at this moment (tying to put Piken to 3rd place in this www-seazon)
I will do fractals later when decide to look on it.
Also I like to kill Tequatl because have nice drop sometimes.
I like freedom. Nobody force me to play in GW2.
Thank you Anet for amazing game!
I've had days where I couldn't decide what to do, but I've never had days where there was nothing to do.
Works for me.
