[General Article] WildStar: The Engineer - A DPS / Tanking Specialist

Information about WildStar has come largely from Carbine Studios....until today. We have a full suite of articles that cover the game in general, PvP, crafting, the Medic and Engineer classes and housing. It's a ton of information that you simply do not want to miss. Read on!

Most of the time when thinking about ranged and 'mechanical' type classes, we generalize that they are medium armor wearing, heavy damage dealing, glass cannons. Not so the Engineer in WildStar. The Engineer wears heavy armor, still deals heavy damage but is strong and tough enough to take on mobs of monsters.

I've been weighing heavily between the Warrior and the Engineer. I want a class that is durable enough so it doesn't have to "stop and drink" after every fight, yet capable of dealing out massive amounts of damage. I think at this point, i'm more inclined to roll an Engineer as my first character.

FYI, there's no mana or "drinking" in WildStar.  No downtime at all, really.  :)

Just started a Warrior, and so far I like it a lot more than the Medic.  Saving Engineer for launch though.

Try to be excellent to everyone you meet. You never know what someone else has seen or endured.

Side note #1 thanks for that one, I have found more and more how important the music is. Engineer - interested but leary because of to many options typically for my liking with engineering classes. I'm already confused enough about my identity, give me more choices and my brain explodes.

I really think this is the first class I will roll. However with so many neat options this game may give me a bad case of alt-itis.

Let's hope the Engineer delivers on the promise of ranged tanking unlike the Bounty Hunter/Trooper of SW:TOR where the promise of being a ranged tank was a lie.

I am still deciding between Stalker and Engineer. First step though is getting into the beta!!!! Come on Carbine, where are those December invites!!! :)

How does the engineer compare with the necromancer in GW2? I wasn't a big fan of the necromancer as I found the pets a little on the soft-side to be truly a pet class, so that in a tough fight you were always resummoning them or working without a number of them. I generally prefer 1 or 2 heavy-hitting pets (healing, dps, tanking, whatever) than a dozen that are scrap for the fire.

Bill - You got in the BETA? You barely know how to hold a mouse, what could you POSSIBLY be testing? Kidding, don't ban me. Anyway Yeah I am very interested in the Engineer but am saving that as well.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

I'm still on the fence for Wildstar, and likely wait for WoW's WoD to age a bit before trying Wildstar.  However, when I do try Wildstar the Engineer is the class I'm going after.

But my question is how truly useful the bots/pets will be.  Past MMOs that use pets tend to be a very minor aspect of the class and usually get killed off in AoEs or the bane of healers with "HEALZ MIAZ PET HEALER!!!!!"  Pet classes tend to be a lie when it comes to endgame.

woah my dreams has become TRUE

    1- PET class : Check

    2- ranged DPS : Check

    3- Tank : Check

    4- Elemental based : FAIL

awww..if only was a "summoner" but 3/4 not bad :D
