[General Article] WildStar: Player Housing - More Than Just an Add-On

Information about WildStar has come largely from Carbine Studios....until today. We have a full suite of articles that cover the game in general, PvP, crafting, the Medic and Engineer classes and housing. It's a ton of information that you simply do not want to miss. Read on!

We were next taken inside the house's cozy interior for a look at some of the items on offer. The ground floor had been set up with a nice portrait painting and a fancy bar, complete with cushy bar stools and shelves full of booze. Carbine is obviously proud of their free placement system which allows players to position things any way they like, rather than imposing restrictive grid-alignments. They're also proud of the sheer number of individual items players will have access to. Within the house, we not only saw scores of small, individually-moveable items like bottles and steaks, we were also told that items can be linked to other items for easy re-arranging.

Disappointed that housing plots are per account and not per character. From a role-playing standpoint, a Mechari's house would look very different than a Draken's house, but they are forced to share. A small but disappointing development.

Housing has been gone for so long in MMO's!  Glad to see it making a strong comeback! *throws money at screen*

    Uhh... what?

Not sure where you came up with that, housing definitely per character.

I'm guessing Senadina has it from the article, it says "Rather than being per-character, housing allotments are per-account and depending on the size of the house, there's a set limit to the number of items each housing plot can hold.".

Housing and the Settler path are the most interesting things about this game to me.

  • Making housing such an integrated part of the game is really great, BUT... The game will be completely dampened of sense of adventure by allowing instant access to everything so easily. Recalling to the house instantly is fine, I still preach about UO and miss being able to recall places, but there needs to be a delay when doing so. Able to put raid portals and mines at your house? There goes a way people will end up feeling like there's nobody in the game world since you can have access to everything from one location. This supplies a perfect scenario for bots along with a NO RISK situation. There are reasons games fall apart when you start giving the lazy community everything they ask for. You lose the people that play for the full immersive experience when doing this, which is what a game is made for in the first place. The people that want everything without any work are the same people that go and sit in the wagon instead of helping to pull it until the number of people in the wagon out-weigh the strength of what's left to pull so it no longer moves and eventually decays and falls apart. Why even create a open world? Let's go back to instanced zones. Anyway, I am just trying to make a constructive point to try and help WildStar achieve success and keep repetitive problems out of the market place. Please understand where I'm coming from before calling me a basher. By the way, I've never been an EQ fan but I just saw Everquest Nexts' Landmark system and that is the future. Now combine that without hand holding and you win.

Yay for player housing!  Yay for expanding plots!  Yay for great creativity Wildstar!  All I want for Christmas is a release date!

    No bitchers.

Edit: nvm, houses are account wide. But its plural, so im thinking the benefits are shared with unlocks with every character, and any character can have their own house.

Love the housing system, looks like a lot of fun, and some neat perks to it.  Housing is better per account, then the world dosnt need 3529582390584329054389543859435843958349584359438594389584309584305984395043859843590843905843590438905 plots
