Welcome to the internets, where people can say what they want, how they want, and when they want with little to no consequences.  It makes it worse when it is in the game you're paying to play.

It is one of the reasons why I don't like WOW (other than the fact that I don't like the game anymore in general).  The community is simply horrible.  Sure, there are those that you'll encounter that make it on your friends list, but with a population of 7mil+ subscribers; you're bound to encounter more trash than roses.

    Raquelis in various games
    Played: Everything
    Playing: Nioh 2, Civ6
    Wants: The World
Anticipating: Everquest Next Crowfall, Pantheon, Elden Ring

Tank - Healer - Support: The REAL Trinity

It seriously boggles my mind, how people/kids these days can be so nasty and ruthless to one another. This was the main reason I quit the game back then, the community. I came back to give the game a try and the one thing that drove me away, I experience it within 30 minutes of being logged in.

It's really amazing how nasty some of the community in this game is. Truly some of the worst human interactions I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing have come from this games community.

I think this is what happens when the "community" is taken out of these social experiences we call MMORPGs.

If this happend in a more community focused MMO (like Ultima Online), those players would be black listed, probably killed and looted, and would have a hard time getting anything done in the game....given much of the game content requires "help", and their "reputation" made them a social pariah.  That kind of consequence used to be enough to hold most in check, despite the guise of internet anonymity.

However, given the way WOW (and many similar games) are designed, the likely hood of you getting matched up with these particular people again are slim to none, given that groups are automajically created from people on completely different servers.  If a-holes do not fear a consequence (not being able to play the game they like), the less desired qualities of humanity rears it's ugly head.

Simple, you wait in queue to do something and someone just goes in there to be carried and does almost nothing. How about you just send me 30 000$ to my paypal account, I wont work for you or anything, I'll just tell the very small audience on here what a great person you are!

Boycotting EA. Why? They suck, even moreso since 2008.

I really do wish they would come out with an honor like system.  Much like Dota and League have where you can rate the people you were matched with.  Maybe all the a-holes would never get queues or only get queued with other a-holes where they can live happily ever after.  IMO that's the next progression of dungeon finders (which I do think is a good feature as I don't have nearly as much time as I used to).

    Absolutely true.

I remember a few names in Vanilla who had such a bad reputation that nobody wanted him/her in the group. It was like one big family.

The community may not have been perfect, all though to me it was just fine, but at least there was a real social dimension. You had a reputation to take care of.

I think a lot of this is due to a lack of banning and community supervisors. Don't want to bite the hand that feeds you and all that jazz.. Seems companies are at least trying for solutions (A lot of MMORPGs are developing extensions to your character name that are account wide to identify you like Guild Wars 2 does). If these companies find banning too heavy handed they could at least do an account wide mute for say 72hrs. In real life your bad actions have bad consequences, this simply isn't the case most of the time in games. It would be nice if they could implement something to allow players to police themselves.

Also, this isn't a World of Warcraft only problem. This has been so much of an issue in every game that I have played that the first thing I do now is turn off all chat functions in game.

Thanks for starting this interesting dialogue.

There is a problem for sure. It does come from more and more anonymity. My thought is once you get everyone on one server with no dungeon pugs pulling random people from all different servers, you start to really tackle the issue of accountability.

Furthering this idea, having everyone be able to switch in and out of and mix classes or rolls will also lead to harmony in the community.

Wow has a bit of this with druid   healer/tank/dps switching. But really this should be able to be done with every avatar.

That's where I think EQ Next is taking us. Being able to switch in and out of classes you unlock and learning tactics for all classes and combos and when to use them. Also being able to fill most any roll in a group will make cross server dungeon finders no longer needed since anyone can tank, anyone can heal, anyone can crowd control, anyone can dps.

Basically if people are held accountable for actions, they eventually will be blocked by most others and not be invited to groups or guilds. Basically they would have to wipe character and start fresh again. They would have to redo all the quests to unlock all the classes and level the tiers of those classes again which would be a big bummer for them just for acting like an ass.

    Problem solved.

Believe it or not,i joined Wow on release day and saw this immature stuff on day 1,i immediately logged out and said i would not return.I have since played it several times even though it is not a good game that even interests me,i just tend to play a lot of games more than once.

There is no question the way Blizzard designed the game as a VERY easy entry level gamer can easily play it with no thinking and tons of hand holding, you see how it would attract the immature.

Of course it NEVER means there is a high % of immature players, but Wow was the first game i really took notice of poor community and immature players.

In saying all of this, you will see the same stuff in just about any game, weather it is former Wow players filtering around all games or just the general easy hand holding type design that attracts these type of players.

I think BLizzard (and other companies) should permanently ban these people without notice. Toxic community will not bring players back.

    This...

But this is also why i would be willing to pay more monthly, that is if a higher monthly price would be a deterrent.
