Erudite Mage + (Insert Heavy Armor Duo Here)

VespilloVespillo Member Posts: 10

I am coming here from World of Warcraft. I currently have a level 42 Rogue, 33 Mage, 27 Druid, 25 Hunter, 23 Warlock and some other lowbies. I personally enjoy the Mage and Warlock the most with Rogue coming in second.

I am coming here looking for answers. I am switching to Everquest II; now I was thinking Erudite Mage and being evil but still not sure and would like some insight. Also my friend is going to start up with me and we are lookig for a heavier armor wearer for him to play. We want to start out in the same place. We both are pretty well experienced gamers. I know I can handle a complex class and he can hold his own, so do not be afraid to mention any classes.

Thank you for any insight on ANYTHING I have said. Also, if you want to throw in some stuff you would like me to know or think it would help, that is GREATLY appreciated.

(all purely my opinion of course)
Ok, for your friend, I'd tell him to go Warrior -> Guardian or Berserker. Full plate, nasty tank fellas. Serious tankage.

For you, Erudite Sorcerer -> Wizard would be the go. All about damage. I have a 56 Warlock (the other Sorcerer class) which I have retired as it's a very niche and rather boring class now in my opinion. Wizards are all about fun.

Evil? If you want to.. if you have to... *grin*. I've always gone 'good' alignment, not cos I prefer good over evil, but because it's not as dark and gloomy. I should try it one day, Freeport does sound like a lot of fun.

Servers? If you like a bit of light roleplay (is there if you look for it, but not in your face) join the LDL server, Lucan De'L-whatever. I just rolled on that server a couple of days ago and it so outdoes Antonia Bayle server in so many ways; especially regarding a lot less lag and much better economy.

Mistmore or Najena or whatever if you're anti RP.

Erm... Spend a good amount of time on the Isle getting accustomed to the game and the mechanics, and try to leave with 50s or so if you can (I stayed there well over the normal time you'd go to the mainland, so as to make more cash. Was worth it). Took me a day's casual play to do this, although I know the class (Scout) very well.

Umm... give it time, get involved, make some cash, join groups (seen plenty on LDL server). Just aim to have some fun. EQ2 is a lot more 'serious' than WoW, but over the last 12 months, EQ2 has been the game I have always come back to after a month off trying whatever other MMO is around.

    Hope you enjoy it :)

That helped a lot, thanks. Funny thing is, my friend and I were talking and before we read your post he decided on Berserker.

I am thinking about going good after hearing that 75% of the population do. I like to be the out cast sometimes but if it means less groups and parties then it is just better to be, "in the light" aka nice or good.

Once again, thank you. Anyone else?

Personally I play all evil toons just because the classes are moor appealing to me.  If your choice to go good is for the grouping opportunities that is a bad idea.  Most of your grouping does not tend to occur until you have advanced to a level 20+ where your starting city alignment is irrelevant because you need to adventure into zones beyond your starter zones.  Once you hit 20+ you will find yourselves in Thundering Steeps (I like Nek better but the population tends to favor the Steeps) doing overland kills or in Fallen Gate (evil) or Storm Hold (good) for grouping.  Reaching either of the two most popular grouping zones at 20+ and there after is easy and most groups form out of the level specific chat channels not in the out of character or shout channel because level specific can be reach people in all zones and the other two are zone limited.

    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

That said if you will spend a good deal of time as a duo you might want to look at a tank that can self heal Shadow Knight or Paladin.  If your intent is to some day go raiding then you will want that tank to be a Guard or Paladin (all tank classes have a role in raids but these two seem to be more popular).  As you can tell I do not know much or care a whole heck of a lot for caster so role up an assassin or a ranger you will have more fun!

I normally play mage-types too, but for some reason in this game my mains are scouts. I do have a Sorcerer though, on his way to Wizard and they are loads of fun. If you are going to be grouping a lot, I might suggest enchanter -> Illusionist(good)/Coercer(evil). They are pretty challenging to play (you are crowd control) and it requires a group that knows what they're doing, but they allow a group to take on Mobs they shouldn't be fighting at all, let alone beathing.

As far as tank if you do decide to go evil, I would reccomend Shadowknight. They don't tank quite as well as a Guardian, but they have some healing and Warding spells that come in handy.

Hmm, I was actually going to do Coercer until you said CC, then it turned me off 100%. I am thinking a Monk of some sort, will be looking into it.
