I have almost two years of ingame time on my characters in this game.

It is dangerous. I'm almost afraid to start playing it again.

If the new engine turns out to be awsome or if Ragnar ever make AO2 I think I must sink another year of my life into this!

Yep, everyone is asking for deep game-play, leveling that takes more than a month and a rich, huge game-world... and they try AO and say, "Ewww the graphics!"

The nutrition industry have a saying, "People talk healthy and eat fat." Our version is, "Players talk depth and challenge, but purchase shallow and easy."

'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.

No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.

I wish someone would make a new game like AO.

One where the skill and equipment system has real depth and allows reaching unthinkable heights...

Sadly it feels like all modern mmos are easy mode in just finding the item and having right level or some minor stat...

  • tyfontyfon Member UncommonPosts: 240

My NT has been wielding everything from fists to nova flow to catervault.

I was quite dissapointed when the cyberdeck hit, and the forced level / profession restrictions for new items. But I got used to that too eventually.

Still, RB + ELLTS + Ithaca worked fine for a while even when UVC was made self only for the MA :)

The flexibility of the system is just miles deeper than most games.

It's not common these days to have items as rare as in AO. I can still remember when I paid an engineer 5 milion credits so he would spend IP into trade skills to build my NS1 disk.

I would not have missed my hours of camping MMD waiting for people to return from missions and deprive them of the XP and loot gained :)

The reason I am not still playing it is that I have to pay attention to RK4. I have a wife, job and child so I am a bit afraid of playing it again!

The first MMO I ever played before moving onto DAOC. Anarchy Online is a fascinating game, always tempted to come back. :D
  • HulluckHulluck Member UncommonPosts: 839

So I would get that stuff ontop of the standard plan?

    12 month recurring [Currently selected]
Includes 1440 points to spend on items and services

It's not exactly clear even on the account page. I don't actually see a special offer selection, So i'd assume subscribe normally then that stuff gets tacked on? Definitely got my attention though I've been bored lately and always enjoyed AO, even when it's issues pissed me off.

Probably mess around with my old froob account if I ever receive my ****ing reset emails.  Apparently Funcom has done something to get flagged in hotmail as spam and untrusted or something.

WTF>>  "Be careful! This sender failed our fraud detection checks."    hahaha.

    NM. sorted first question.

Yeah, the whole email thing is odd though. Still curious why they are flagged in hotmail's  system?   Been away awhile and seemed to be a pretty common issue early last year.  Saw a lot of posts about it.

To this day, AO remains my favorite MMO (up until they added a Cash Shop)

That said, I have also  received this offer. And I have to say, it's a bit disappointing. Especially for the loyal customers who have stuck with the game for years. Now they are getting yet another slap in the face. What about this already outdated engine (no new content) is worthy of a closed beta with an NDA that just so happens to be offered to anyone who puts up a 12 mo sub?

What is wrong with you FC!?!? That engine should be in the test realm open to anyone with a currently active subscription! You have owed this to anyone and everyone who has paid for this game over the years. Instead you dangle it like a carrot in an attempt to wring more money out of players.

I am a bit dissapointed that they have introduced xp stims in the cash shop, but other than that still my favorite MMO. I am waiting for the new engine, might give it a try when that releases.

    MMOs currently playing: -
About to play: Lord of the Rings Online
Played: Anarchy Online (alltime favorite) and lots of f2p titles (honorable mentions: 9Dragons, Martial Heroes, Dekaron, Atlantica Online)

I'm confused here...this game has subscription?

They really need to elaborate on the beta access, the Beta server status in particular. I would be pissed if I paid extra in to get in the new engine beta server to find its only online 2 days a week or some such.

They need to make AO buy to play hybrid now and get rid of subs. If they expanded their shop and opened up the rest of the game along with the graphics engine upgrade, they would flourish... it's time.

AO was one of the biggest and best game I played, and the biggest disappointment.  While the game did provide more depth than anything I ever played and was one of the only cyberpunk games out.  All the promises, and the bugs that came with those promises, i.e. player housing.

I would go back, I have tried to go back, but yes, the graphics and UI are so dated, it is as though i am back in 1990 again.  I just cannot do it.

It's about time to just let the game die. I've had some of my best and worst MMO experiences in AO but ffs they have been stringing along those poor suckers (the 10 or so that they have left) for too long now. I swear I used to go back to the forums just to laugh how sad it is watching the same 5 people argue over the same thing year in and out. 3 out of those 5 accounts probably being owned by the same person. It's a dead game, that refuses to change, and charges far to much for what little it has given back.

I'm so glad I got off that train years ago. They are milking those last few people dry. New engine? anyone that's ever played that game knows how much of a joke that will be. Funcom sure can sell a dream.

Has the new engine actually taken hold?  I remember when Age of Conan was released that Funcom said they would be using the same engine for AO... but that was... how many years ago?
  • GeezerGamerGeezerGamer Member EpicPosts: 8,857

    Let's be clear..

The engine.....is not new. The second that engine releases, it will already be overdue for another update. We are talking about development that began in 2006 and got scrapped over and over again. This upgrade will take technology from the turn of the century and bring it to the middle of the last decade. Yeah, that deserves a closed beta with a NDA.

this game is not bad to play and ya its a bit dated and yes thier sub but only for the  xpacs if you want them other then that  play for free and yes thier nbot a lot of ppl that play.

i say if you want to play again do it......

  • OzmodanOzmodan Member EpicPosts: 9,726
Sad that they never completed their graphics makeover for this game.

I hope you are correct, but I doubt the engine will be enough.
