Already read on the Steam forums that guns are not in the early access version yet. Alot of people complaining that issues that existed 2 years ago with Day Z are still present.
I want to buy it but I'm waiting for the official release.
$30
Holy Shit. I mean....for an alpha?.....to get entrance into the standalone version...I wasn't expecting such a high price so early for the standalone that is.
Pricey.
Which is entirely false.
Lesson #1: Do not believe everything you read.
It's just pre purchasing the game in it's current state. 30 Dollars will probably end up being the price even at launch, why would it be different now, you are just helping test it out and getting to play it earlier than people who are waiting for the final release.
You get access to every incarnation of the game from now until final release. What is it about Steam Early Access that people just don't seem to understand? Not being a smartass either, I genuinely want to know.

@Kost, Are you currently playing it now and know guns are in? These people are in it playing it currently
@Solar Prophet, Everyone understands what early access is, what people don't like are the high price tags to beta test their product. This is a current trend on Steam and being pushed more and more with all this early access for a hefty price BS.
If you are an indie company and need funding go to kickstarter. If you need beta testers don't ask them to bend over and take it big difference
See, I don't think people do understand half the time, that's the problem. Just about every early access game has a thread complaining about this, and people act like they're not getting a copy of the game when it's finished, that the only thing they're paying for is beta access, which isn't true. And they're most certainly not 'bending over and taking it'.
The forums for Early Access games also almost always have some idiot complaining that the game is buggy, and they want a refund. This is of course followed with about 30 people telling them what an idiot they are for not expecting bugs in an alpha / beta game. I've seen it in every EA game I've either purchased or had an interest in, bar none.
Early access is overall a very good thing. It allows fans to support projects they're interested in, and lets them participate in some way with the development process. Yes there are risks involved (as there are with supporting ANY product in an early stage), but those risks are spelled out quite clearly before purchase.
I honestly think people who complain about the price want to play the game early, but don't want to pony up the dough even though the EA price is usually lower than the final MSRP. Don't want to pay now? Then wait and pay later like everyone else.
Note: Not targeting any specific person here, just the situation overall & a chunk of people who buy early access w/o taking time to read what it is they're buying.

after looking at the dayz steam page it sounds like rust is an a way better state atm too. I think this was only released at this time because rust was released.
/agreed
war-z, rust, day-z, they all come down to just a pvp gankfest with some zombies sprinkled in. If they would just put some mechanism in to curb pvp, not stop it. Something like, after you kill the third person in a 30 minute span your weapons have a 50% chance to jam. I like the idea of a survival game but not when the entire server is looking to hunt you down. If I wanted that kind of pvp I would play a real pvp game like BF4.
Is there a survival game like this that isn't PvP?
I am kind of new to this sort of MMO and looking for something a little more co-op.
Someone mentioned Left for Dead but I was looking for something larger.
7 Days to Die isn't all that difficult but it does offer a pretty cool co-op vibe. The zombies can (and will) actually siege your fortifications to try to get to you. If you make an underground bunker, they'll start digging down to try to get to you, etc. Like I said it's not super hard, but it does offer adversity in the form of NPCs instead of other players.... though pvp is going to be a thing, if it isn't already.
With the original size of the Cernarius map and a cap of 50 players max per map it was always incredibly easy to play Dayz and never be bothered by other players.
if you knew what you were doing, and avoided the "pvp hotspots" you could go days and not see one other player.
you could even tell if the a town had other players just by the fact that zombies were visible from far away. basically if you had any knowledge of the game you could avoid pvp almost entirely on most servers.
Zombies were quite a bit harder in the original versions of Dayz (also because of all the shit they used to glitch through), but they were subsequently nerfed into the ground with every new version of the Dayz mod.
If this new stand alone makes every building enterable (one of my biggest pet peeves in Dayz), and makes zombies a bit harder and more numerous (at least in the larger towns), plus removes most bugs (like breaking bones while crawling) and prevents hackers (my biggest pet peeve in Dayz) it will definitely be worth 30$. There is simply nothing like Dayz.
I have trust issues when it comes to alpha.
Rule 1. Its alpha expect things to not work
Rule 2. Expect half the game to be missing
Rule 3. Whatever you do, Do not expect that what your playing will be the final release.
Because i can.

Kinda sounds like you want to play Xsyon.
Oh and as for OP, alpha is gonna be alpha.
I'm gonna pass it for now even tho it's my favourite type of game.
Totally agree. And for this reason, I can't play RUST.
Actually it not as big as you would think when I comes to the possibility of being shot at first sight. In Dayz seeing players isn't the first thing on you mind. Its surviving, staying hidden. And when you do see someone and you are unarmed, hoping that they don't see you.
If you look at it in this perspective it works perfectly. You are alone, all you see are zombie. You are trying to survive. Come across someone that is helpful is extremely rewarding because it would actually be a pretty rare event. There is general chat, so you know people are there....still feels like an mmo to me.
