So the controversial and ever increasing popularity of developers to charge for beta access goes to a whole new level with Aeria's upcoming localized asian mmo Aura Kingdom. Thought the 100 dollar EQNext Landmark founder pack was insane? Or maybe Neverwinter's before it launched? Feast your eyes on this:
http://www.aeriagames.com/playnow/aurakingdom/founderspacks
The 2nd tier founder pack - 159 dollars DISCOUNTED from 289 dollars. What a bargain!!! And what does this get you the 50 dollar starter pack doesn't have? One extra pet. Yep, 110 dollar pet.
The 3rd tier founder pack - 300 dollars DISCOUNTED from 550 dollars!! Wow I'm getting 250 dollars off this screamin deal!! What do I get extra from the 2nd tier pack for this steal of a deal? Oh, another pet AND extra character slots, plus a little plushie.
Listening to the dev speak Beau from Massively asks what prompted them to charge so much for their founder's packs. The answer - "Because we are offering so much more!!"

hm, maybe that's why it's called founders program?
because they found the game with their investment :P
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
well the game is actually already made... so they aren't exactly founding something that isn't already there
I gave up on Aeria's games after I got upset and used the word shit on their forum, they deleted my account with high level characters and gear. Have not even looked back with so many games to choose from in today's market!
Yes they are within their rights to do so, but I am also within my right to never create another account with them or give them any more money!
In all seriousness these companies didn't ask for the market to be this saturated, gotta fight for every penny. If someone is willing to spend money on these packs more power to them and in doing so get whatever they get. I'm sure Aeria appreciates the free publicity though hehe.
When I see something advertised on TV and they're asking for a stupid amount of money for crap I don't want...I don't buy it. Why are games different ?
I don't see the point in bitching about it every time a new game puts up their " founders program" Obviously there are people out there buying it..so... good for them ?
I think star citizen is overfunded 21m$ is mad.
the developer can create the game and retire all at once.
"Congratulations Dolnor! You've won the privilage of entering the closed beta test. Please come help us make this a great game!
Oh...btw...your access is only good for 1 week...period."
This isn't a beta test invite. This is a "come look at our game, get excited, and buy it when it releases" preview...nothing more. I would rather they state the facts...rather than "sugar-coat" the invite.

hmmm. k gotcha there.
but maybe you found sth else? such a lead dev and CEO need a benz to propperly roll
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
You just totally failed to read their webpage. For the extra 110$ a player will get
-2 200 extra loyalty points
-1 extra monthly costume membership
-permanent mount
-2x temporary mounts that last for 3 days.
That 110$ pet you're speaking of does not exists.
But people buy stuff all the time that fall into this category, but it's their money, if they want to be part of the fourth level have at it I say.

You know, the biggest problem about these kinds of ridiculous offers is that many people just swallow them up like no tomorrow.
I see the same in Age of Wulin / Wushu: whenever the devs release some overpriced crap or some stupid lottery system where you wager money on the off-chance of getting something good, some crazy dudes who apparently snort money out of every orifice when they wake up in the morning will defend it.
Usually under the guise that it allows people to be more "unique" and whatever.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
Oh wow you're right! Totally worth it now!!
The fact that they have "Weapon Upgrade Scrolls" and "Armor Upgrade Scrolls" virtually proves that it will be 99% Pay (tons of money) - to -WIN, nothing more.
The 150$ / 300$ packs are just as someone said above, their Christmas bonuses, it's the in-game armor upgrades that will ensure their livelihoods. If people raged about Neverwinter charging 50$ for a fast (mostly cosmetic, since u can't use it in dungeons) mount, I just wonder what they will say when Aura Kingdom requires 100$ just to upgrade a set of armor/weapons to what you NEED in order to actually play the game successfully...the release monthly updates requiring another 100$ for a new armor set!
The gents at Aeria games are upping their game in terms of greed, they're now reaaaaally up there.
Sad, as the game might have actually had some potential...
Rip off? Yep. Scam? No, they are being very upfront about what you receive.
I don't like this bullshit '$X worth of stuff!' tripe that they are trying to sell these days, especially when they are selling items that are not available individually. The first games I saw trying to shovel that down peoples throats was Neverwinter and Marvel Heroes. I'm sorry, but if you are selling it for $200, then it is worth $200 when you are talking about items that are not available individually. The pack is worth exactly what you are selling it for.
By all means sell it for whatever you want, but lay off the bullshit please.
Neverwinter also needs RL cash (or obscene grinding / luck) to get weapons and armour upgraded.
Don't blame the developer because folks are willing to purchase it
I'll consider it if the eraser doesn't cost extra.
