Hi,
there is a new MMORPG-Anime airing currently. It's called Log Horizon and while it starts a bit slowly it seems to get better and better. The unique touch to it's story seems to be that things are possible ingame which are beyond game mechanics like thinking and feeling npc's and performing actions without the ingame skill system. You should check it out.

I think I may have watched a good 3-4 anime's on MMORPG's. And, they are all basically the same from what I have seen:
- A large percentage of the world is plugged in.
- It's more real for the people playing then any MMORPG we have to day (usually set in the future with VR)
- An unlikely character is chosen through some means to ascend to great heights.
- There is some problem in 'the world' something that shouldn't be possible. this mystery runs a lot deeper then any one realizes, and if it isn't stopped it can effect the real world.
- And, the point the whole series is trying to make is maybe you should unplug once in a while.
I am not apposed to maybe watching a new one. I just don't think there is anything unique about this kind of anime. And, usually I just want to play the game the characters are set in because it looks like a really entertaining game. So, they only upset me because the game isn't one that actually exists.
I think only the big worlds that they portray are interest and it hit right on most of our dream "a lots contents".
Other setting are ... not so good. Most about grind
Quests not much interest and super AI are too high fantasyOnly .hack// make anime to support .hack// RPG , but they no good for MMORPGs.
But if you think about mass contents they have , i do think those game will popular when they release.
Watch those tittle for drama is good ,but about MMOs setting , it no good at all.
Though i ready love to see a game with mass contents like those idea world release in real life and when i still alive .
hmmm....Looks like I was wrong about this one. I watched episode 1 and was instantly engaged. I like that they recognized smaller things about a virtual world becoming real. Like the issues with the differences between our characters and ourselves. And how we might feel about actually becoming our characters.
Which (not to hijack the OP's thread) raises an interesting question:
What would it be like for you if you became your character (let's say, in your favorite MMORPG/the one you know the best)?
As for myself it would be a little tough...The game would be runescape.
RL I am a younger male, strait laced, clean cut, generally nice and upstanding guy. Not particularly religous. Very habitual and set in my ways.
In game I am an old man (my character is portrayed as being old from the start and I am a 12 year veteran of the game). my character is also aligned to the god of chaos (not necessarily evil, just one who hates stagnation, uses chaos to mix things up and break monotony, and believes in greater achievement through over coming adversity).
The only thing I really have in common with my character is being male. It would be quite the change. I would feel older, like I once had a lot more strength and ability. I could still achieve great feats but it would take a lot to call upon that and I would be down for the count for a time after a big fight. I would be both blessed and burdened by the knowledge of how things are vs. how they used to be. I would know many of the smaller secrets and overlooked options. I would have a vast library of knowledge about the world and have access to a lot of places many people don't after the fact of their immediate relevance (in game I collect all keys, tablets notes books, and extremely specific use tools that I come across). I would be aligned with a god I don't exactly see eye to eye with, and in a dangerous time, where the gods have returned to the world.

I have heard in some ways its just like sword art? but personally I don't think it can beat SAO but ill give it try
12 eps in.. its quite good even though it focuses on politics and not so much on action.
Interesting enough the anime reminds me of SWG due to the open world and the travelling.
