Open world pvp question

treyu86treyu86 Member UncommonPosts: 270

First of all, please if you are going to troll and not help me try to avoid answering, I am really looking for answers :)

I am considering playing SWTOR and even becoming a subscriber (i tried the game at F2P release and more or less I know how the game works). The only thing I am not sure about and is the thing that will make me play or not play the game, is how open world pvp is in the game. I will play in a PvP server, all I want to know is if you can find people from the other faction to pvp with in the world while questing, and if that is a yes, if it is a common thing to see or it is something that rarely happens. Is there any other open world pvp system implemented? Like a open pvp zone with objetives or something?

I wouldn't call anything in SWTOR open world lol. More like "mini zones".

The game engine does not handle multiple characters on screen very well.  There has been some improvement, but the large battles you hope to happen with an open world PvP game turn it into a slide show.  Battlegrounds are a bit different than most and are interesting, if you can get past dirty feeling you get when you give EA money.

SWTOR has as much open world PVP as most other themepark MMOs, which is not much.

Oricon is prob the only place it happens on a regular basis since they deactivcated Ilium.

As far as battlegrounds/warzones go though, the actual PVP in SWTOR is suprisonly better than WoW, Rift, and many others with the same combat mechanics, only because it hasnt gotten out of hand with CCs and macros like the aformentioned games have.

When I did play at luanch, I remember searching 3 hours (i watched the clock) for someone from the republic. I went to all the planets. They went out their way to make sure Wpvp didn't happen in that game. Off Limit home worlds, and completely separated questing planets.

This. The game was designed so that the Sith and Republic levelling areas are nearly completely separate. You wont just accidentally run into someone.  There are areas you can go for open world PvP but these are fairly underused.

Most of your PvP will be from the battlegrounds and arenas.

if you wanted to PVP, why not queue for a PVP match?

let me guess: you only wanted to fight those, who didnt want to PVP

I am a bit of a RPer, I like fights in a virtual world, dont need to gank helpless players.

With that said: I don't like PVP in a scripted arranged battle on a timer where you carry a flag from one side to the other, it's the same in all MMO themeparks like this. I play shooters for this.

Open world PVP does not exist in SWTOR, I play on the most populated EU PVP server as well has on US Prophecy of the Five, I leveled 4 players to 55 from launch to now inbetween inactive periods....only had 1 lvl 50 try to gank me when I dismounted from a speeder trip.

Could care less about scripted PVP events like Voidstar or any other lame instance. But the engine unfortunately can not support >10 players fighting without lag.
