5.1 SURROUND MOTION DETECTION

SEANMCADSEANMCAD Member EpicPosts: 16,775

I am looking around the internet trying to find a project details that use more than one Kentic or Playstation Eye for an entire room solution. I could see how each speaker in a surround sound system could have a camera on it to turn your media room basically into a holideck with the help of either augmented glasses or full VR headsets.

Project Holideck is one but details I want more

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

I have an environment in my lab that uses chained LEAP sensors combined with the Oculus to develop in CAD. It can also be used for all sorts of stuff.

Judging by the way you're talking about the tech I doubt you have the prowess to configure such an environment or program within it, however. (no offense).

You should just wait 10 years for something proprietary.

Just buy three Kinnects, and do it yourself.  You won't need anymore than that unless you're trying to make it work in a really massive room.

Well the Kinect can already "see" in 3D, idk about the PS Eye. Kinect 1.0 is limited to about a 7ftx7ft patch, extending from a minimum distance of about 6ft directly infront of the camera. I don't know if the new Kinect on the Xbone is any better in that regard or not. Supposedly the hardware can go even farther than that, just the Xbox software tightens the viewing field down some.

So there's no minimum number of sensors you'd need, it's just a matter of covering some amount of square feet with video input. And if all you needed was about 50 sq ft of coverage, then your already set with one sensor - although most rooms are a bit bigger than 7x7.

The Kinect sensor has a practical ranging limit of 1.2–3.5 m (3.9–11 ft) distance when used with the Xbox software. The area required to play Kinect is roughly 6 m2, although the sensor can maintain tracking through an extended range of approximately 0.7–6 m (2.3–20 ft). The sensor has an angular field of view of 57° horizontally and 43° vertically, while the motorized pivot is capable of tilting the sensor up to 27° either up or down. The horizontal field of the Kinect sensor at the minimum viewing distance of ~0.8 m (2.6 ft) is therefore ~87 cm (34 in), and the vertical field is ~63 cm (25 in), resulting in a resolution of just over 1.3 mm (0.051 in) per pixel.

5.1 surround motion?  I want to know what the .1 is.  Infrared detection?

You never know when they'll decide to remake KISS: Psycho Circus.

Techs in labs right now. There is actually a lot of what you specify that is in labs right now. For instance AMD Eye-finity was born from 6 outputs to display a 360 degree view around the viewer.

That's actually not true.  According to AMD, Eyefinity got its start with laptop vendors wanting the availability of two built-in monitors, two from external monitor ports, and two from a docking station.  So AMD thought, if we're going to build in the capability to display six monitors anyway, let's create the capability to display six monitors simultaneously.
