I'm not going to get into the boring details about how I've been away from MMO's for a half of year or why, but the short of it is this: I'm looking to come back to MMO's and I'm debating on whether to reopen one of these two games. I chose these two games for two reasons: Both focus on high quality story driven leveling experiences and I adore both Final Fantasy and Star Wars.
I bought a CE of ToR at launch and played a Jedi Knigh to 50 and enjoyed it enough, but ended up quitting. I bought a CE for FFXIV: ARR as well, but only got to play the beta because I got a job shortly after and quit MMO's completely.
Since I have less time to spend on MMO's then I used to, both of these games look quite appealing since they both focus on high quality story driven leveling experiences.
Since I never got past level 15 on FF Beta, and only leveled one character, the Jedi Knight, to 50 on ToR almost two years ago, which do you think would be a better one to spend my limited time in? I'm mainly looking for a good story, fun progression, and semi decent community.
Side note: Also, if ToR, what class would you say has the best story (I know this is subjective.)
Comments
I didn't resurrected my old FF XIV yet, so can't comment on that.
TOR's best story is not entirely subjective, since most folks would answer IA, so it's almost an objective fact
If money is no concern then I'd go with FFXIV:AAR. Newly released mmorpgs tend to have fairly active populations. This is needed in order to get a more robust experience when you play. Also start with a healer or tanking class if you have the fortitude and know how. FFXIV offers plenty of side options if you're running short on time or your playing time really fluctuates.
If you do not want to worry about keeping up with a subscription or get a feeling you have to play a certain amount of time to justify the expense then I say go back to SWTOR. Especially if you really, really want to keep your playing time in check. You already know what's in store so there is no guesswork in what you can do with your time spent.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
I've played both and I'd say go with swtor if your primary concern is story. There's more of it in swtor, with the 8 classes and planetary arcs. Your character in swtor also has a bit more personality, due to your character's dialogue and the 'choices' that the game gives you. Your character in ffxiv is pretty much a silent protagonist. The characters in general have been more memorable in swtor.
Though I prefer other aspects of ffxiv over swtor, swtor wins in the story department.
