There are special "housing zones" where you can buy your own small house or a quite big mansion. The designs are different in each realm and they aren't that cheap but you can't just build "everywhere" like on many uo free shards (for example) or in SWG. There are fixed spots in each housing zone where you might build your house. You don't really build it - you buy a deed and drop it where you want your house to be. (Check out screenshots on "foundations" to see more.) At first it sounds quite boring/bad, but imo it's better than running trough the dark and wild jungle far far away from civilization and at once running into a big mansion with sunflowers in the garden...
With the right guild (enough active RvR play) you can "claim" a keep or a tower in the frontiers and defend it (you'll get some extra damage and extra realm points for this). All guards will wear your guild's emblem and you are notified when someone tries to overtake it. This is really better than just have a big house somewhere and noone seeing it... (-> Screenshots of "New Frontiers")
You can "own" boats or horses - boats aren't that important except for some quests and you can't use them alone (at least 2 people sitting inside to travel).
There should be enough screenshouts on many web pages (Mythic's official web page for example) to see it yourself.
@seekyou; the older the age of a well maintained MMORPG (such as DAOC) the better it gets. Maturity is a very important thing with MMORPGs. Old = good in MMORPG terms.
@OP
- Housing is of lesser quality then that of SWG however it's fun.
- A guild can claim 'control' castles (keeps) and towers.
- You can own boats and horses, boats however require a minimum of 2 peepz to operate except for boats in the frontiers.
DAOC has an enormous depth to it and will def. require 2 weeks of putting in good time to get a small look at it all... Pickup the trial and give it a go (remember though that graphics in the DAOC:Epic edition are faaaaaaaaar better then the Trial), judge it on content not graphics (do know that with DAOC:Epic edition graphics are equal or better then the best out there).
Thx for that but do you need a credit card for using the trial, Some people say you do some say you dont.
I mean its crazy if you do and i want to try it. It sounds like the game for me
Thx all who submitted
I've played about every major MMO out there and I can tell you that DAoC has some of the best if not the best graphics in an MMO. You got a free trial. You can't complain about free. If you didn't like the gameplay then you won't like it with better graphics. Free trials are meant to try the game out. Most people approach a free trial looking at the game play and the skill list etc. If you read these forums at all or asked inside the game people would have told you that the graphics get a whole lot better with the catacombs engine. Don't forget you could have downloaded this engine for free for you trial. Well no matter, you already deleted your account and you said you don't like the gameplay.
OP-Yes you need a credit card, but if you cancel right away or before your trial is up you won't get billed for it.
Just get the Epic version. I got it last night and I honestly can't believe I played anything else before this. I am going to cancel my station pass and just stick with DAoC now. I love EQ2 and SWG, but I have so little time to play now with work and gf that I'm gonna play DAoC till Vanguard comes out.
And, ummm....the graphics are SWEET!! Elnator was right.
Just remember rule 1 AA:
Elnator is always right Except when he's wrong
