Old Starwars Galaxies player looking for a new home

i LOVED SWG when it was pre-cu but the combat upgrade killed it for me...only other mmo i have played is WoW and its just not cutting it for me anymore.

I was wondering if anyone had a game out there that is somewhat like Pre-CU SWG or even just a good game where it isnt an insane grind (like WoW) but still has awesome pvp and phat loot potential

thanks

DAOC has everything you're looking for. There's NOTHING out there even remotely like Pre-CU SWG but DAOC is easily the best PVE/Factional PVP game out there.

DaoC is a very good PvP game

I also wish there was a game like old SWG with a lot of classes and then a points system so you could mix/match your character into exactly what you want. Hopefully that system idea doesn't die off thanks to SWG and someone uses it again someday.

i think you might like Vendetta Online also a futuristic game which is space based. I think its interesting how you can have mac, linus, and windows and they all work. Also i haven't tried it but it must be great to plug in a joy stick into your computer to fly your ship and fight. The space combat system is really fun and interesting. Not as complex as SWG and isn't run by a huge corporation byt it  might be better because the people who run VO listen to their customers.

They have an 8 hour game time free trial so check it out if ya want.

Lots of ex SWG players seem to be settling in Saga of Ryzom. They say its a good fit.

You might like Vendetta Online, the space-sim-shooter RPG thing by Guild Software. It's availible for all three OSes, and it's only $10 a month.

VO's not a huge grind, because the combat is twitch-based (hallelujah!), so there's actually some skill involved in levelling up, and even a newbie can take down a veteran if they've got good enough control of their ship. In VO, it's less about the levels and equipment and more about how you use them.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have a huge playerbase yet, but what it does have is solid.

There are a whole bunch of new features coming to the game (player-controlled capital ships, a new user interface, new AI, etc.), and we're expecting an influx of new players because of it. The game itself hasn't been widely advertised, but right now the Devs (there are only four of them) are working on getting more content out, so when they do start advertising, a lot of people will be interested.

EDIT: Hehe, didn't see Miexon's post.

You might wanna try out Guild Wars. Best PVP in my opinion. Great storyline and no monthly fee.image

    Try EVE

    its Sci Fi

    its free trial, free download

it has 1/3 carebear area, 2/3 free for all PvP zone .... 5000 solar systems with dozens of planets, belts, moons, stations each

player empires ... and I MEAN EMPIRES .... player owned and created stations .. motherships, carriers, fleets, titans, bulk haulers, warships types by the dozens

no shards, all players in ONE universe ... so .. if you become notorious as a PvP hero, you are notorious to 100k plus people.

Take a look at the battle videos to get an idea what PvP is like ... and expect some mass combat with hundreds of ships.

BUT ... its ships only ... no toons (yet) ... and it has  a steep learning curve ... training is done offline, so no grinding. You will be a decent fighter after 6 months, but in a corp you can be effective after 2 weeks already. You will be a top fighter after a year as your skills have advanced so you can use any and all ships.

Plenty of SWG exiles there. And BTW .. here you can SMUGGLE !

    Have fun

The only way to find a good MMO you will like is to research about them yourself. As you can probably see, all these people here are just basically advertising and telling you whatever MMORPG they happen to be playing right now.

A lot of SWG players have found a home in the Saga of Ryzom. They seem to especially love the skill system comparing it to how SWG used to be.

Once you download the trial and install it go to the official site downloads section and download the catacombs engine for the trial. (It's a free download for the engine).

Erm... the skill system in Ryzom is *nothing* like SWG. It's more like AO

I wonder how many hundred's of thousands of accounts SWG lost thanks to their careless nerf? It just goes to show that Massively multiplayer games should not be run by clumsy, greedy corporations with no knowledge of gamers or the games they're paying to run. Sony isn't the only one to make huge blunders, look at Electronic Arts. I wont play another MMORPG that's run by a huge corporation.

thanks for all the suggestions so far guys, sry i forgot to mention but i have guild wars, it just doesnt cut the pvp aspect for me, and im not really into the space combat, but i will tell a friend who is about EVE cuz it does sound pretty cool. I tried Ryzom and DAOC today on the free trials, but im not gettting into their skill systems (too much like dungeon siege imho) so i guess i'll wait for RL online which looked cool or one of the 5,0000000000000000000000000000000 games listed in this awesome site
