The new EQ2, better than ever befor !

Quite simple:
Take the skill systems of UO
The Trade sytems of EVE
The PVP "security/war/open" system of EVE
The combat system of original SWG (Ham bars)
The world graphics of Ryzom
The environment system of Ryzom
The character graphics of DAOC - Catacombs
The PVE game of EQ1 or WOW or EQ2 or DAOC (all are fine)
The Quest system of EQ2
The crafting system of old school SWG
The city and non-combat aspects of old school SWG
The resource gathering system of UO
The item decay (and repair) system of UO
Meld all that together
And you have my dream-come-true MMORPG.
EDIT:
Or all that but use White Wolf's game system instead
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

I agree with the above, but I liked the crafting of Horizons. That would be an interesting option.
I loved SWG's automated resource gathering but not sure how you could do that in a non-Scifi environment. Player controlled and raidable mines/Orchards/Forests perhaps?
Just dreaming anyways
Dawn of the Dead the mmorpg!
spend your time running and hiding from the hordes of undead or spend your times chasing after the living, wooo
I cited resource gathering of UO, not SWG For the same reason.

I've been liking this great idea so far (in the Developers Corner section) Read it all.
A PvP Proffession-heavy MMO with housing

Put that into a Vampire Masquerade setting, with quest's and story a la bloodlines and Redemption and that is my all time, super duper, never to be beaten dream MMO El. I mean seriously, you got everything I could of possibly thought about.

Oh, except add:
Character Creation: Original SWG and Matrix Online
In Game Character Alterations: From SWG (Image Designer Prof)
Clothing and Tat's: As much variety as SWG but with an MxO, CoH/CoV twist.
Then it's the perfect game.

I would like to see FUNNY mmo.
All mmo worlds are far too serious. All with developed background stories and lore. And yet all most of player think is how to be uber munchkins - totaly disregarding the roleplay enviroment.
So why not have WORLD OF UBER MUNCHKINISM
I mean something totaly crazy. Parody of every MMO mixed with Discworld , Hichikers guide to galaxy, Order of the stick , Munchkins....crazyness
With enemyes like in old MUD's - pigeon , beastly fido...etc
Crazy classes like - zombie ninja or barbarian pacifist
And what is the funniest all the l33t talk and general stupidity of average MMO player would actually benefit to world roleplay and lore
"Before this battle is over all the world will know that few...stood against many." - King Leonidas
If Mario Brothers is so huge world wide... i don't see why Nintendo should go online and make an MMORPG out of Mario Brothers. This would attract a lot of people world wide!
Here's a thought:
World: Of course the world would be very interesting, because on all the other previous Mario Bros. games, every area or level is very unique looking from all the games. Just think if you're walking around squashing some mushrooms out in the forest and you keep venturing on and you see some deep cave and now in the cave there are some walking bombs and the imagination could go on and on.
Transportation: Mario Karts! Of course, we could all drive around and hey maybe even have PvP battles with them? Without the Karts, we could just use the good ol Pipes to get to some areas. And hey maybe we could even use a Yoshi type creature for transportation.
Creatures: mushrooms, turtles, bombers, flying bullets, ghosts, etc. etc.
Character creation: as long as the characters look like they fit in the Mario type World.
Skills: you'd have to pick apart the basic skills from all the games. Like Fireball, racoon, super mario, big mario, etc. etc. I dont have much thought on this.
Man this game would be cool! I haven't played mario bros. since Mario World from SuperNES.
Cmon Nintendo I know you can come out with a Mario Bros. MMORPG!
I would want my game to have better AI than the games out so far. I think the monster AI in games is a second thought. For example, I think it would be cool if a monster in a game would stalk your group, maybe waiting for just the right time to attack. He's there, lurking in the bushes, watching your teams every move. Studying your play style and group dynamics. Then, it pounces on you. Maybe going after the weakest member (which most of the time would be me.) hehe.

Two warnings before I start:
This is going to be a long post detailing two ideas that I've had for awhile.
Both of these ideas were made with independant developement in mind. They're technically for graphical MUDs (less than 1000 players on server during peak hours) so I tried to keep everything small and focused.
And now.....
My first idea was for a stone age MUD. I was taking my cues from
Ur MUD and A Tale in the Desert. The environment would be a an island with with antelope and differnt plants that players could gather food from. The island would also have a couple of packs of Velociraptors that would hunt both the antelope and the players. Oh yeah, did I mention this game is permadeath? The players would be able to craft primative tools and clothing from flint, wood, and animal hides. Raptor hide would be especially valued since it would be so hard to get. Players would also have to eat and drink as well as find shelter against the weather. The key feature of this game would be how difficult it would be to survive on your own. Players would have to work together in order to survive against the environment itself. That's not to say that tribal warfare wouldn't happen because of limited resources and shortages. I didn't go ahead with this idea because it would require quite a bit of statistics on the back end (I HATE statistics as a math), and I was originally going to make canibalism possible. Not only could I see groups of griefers wandering the island, killing off whole tribes, taking the loot and eating the remains, but I could also see the media getting hold of that fact and obsessing over it. I don't think I have to tell you how THAT would turn out. This game seems pretty boring on paper. But then again, so does The Sims.
My next idea was even simpler. I was trying to combine NetHack and Legend of The Red Dragon with a graphical client that looked kinda like Diablo 2 or Darkstone. Basically, the server would generate a huge dungeon with 100 levels and a really big White Dragon at the very bottom. Players would then race to slay the dragon. Again, the game would be permadeath. There would be levels and classes but PK would be restricted to players within +/- 5 levels of yourself. For instance, a level 5 player could attack a level 10 player and vice versa, but a level 15 player couldn't attack a level 5 player and vice versa. Players could also form guilds and would share the rewards if one, or more, of their guildmates slayed the dragon. I was also thinking about scattering 5 temples throughout the dungeon that would give advantages to the player / guild that owned them. The temples would have a spirit inside that the players would have to defeat in order to take control of that temple. After the Dragon was slain, the server would reset and rebuild the dungeon and the player or guild that killed the dragon would be rewarded in some way for the next round. I was thinking about calling it "Hunt for The Great White Wyrm"......
I really like that idea. Well, except for permadeath
Of course. Hardly anybody likes permadeath.
In the more hackbased game I don't really see permadeath as a strong side, although it might be. I don't know how I'd implement it there. In the stone age setting, though, you serve a role, and the risk of death is part of what makes a risky trade profitable. If there wasn't permadeath then everybody would be heading for the velociraptors.
Also, permadeath is a requirement for an advancing storyline. You simply can't advance a storyline where nobody dies. (Why, now I'm lying, but for simplicity's sake, agree with me. I can think of workarounds) Ok, most storylines will be stronger if the dead die truly.
If you come across something that looks good, but has permadeath. Try it. Maybe you'll find that permadeath adds to the experience rather than ruining it. You won't necessarily be losing your character all that often.
As for monster / creature AI:
EDIT: Mariobros Online could be lots of cute fun!
The future: Adellion
Common flaw in MMORPGs: The ability to die casually
Advantages of Adellion: Dynamic world (affected by its inhabitants)
Player-driven world (beasts won't be an endless supply of mighty swords, gold will come from mines, not dragonly dens)
Player-driven world (Leadership is the privilege of a player, not an npc)
I think these might be a little nicer. ;-)
The Quest Journal sytem of EQ2 with DAOC's newer Catacombs quest style
The resource gathering system of EQ2 ( maybe add a pinch of Horizons)
The item decay (and repair) system of DAOC (this is the best I have seen so far across the board)
Add the housing/room rent/buy system of Daoc with USER made room items. (rented rooms ala EQ2 for players who are not too flush or part-timers, with room lock so that you have to pay back-rent if you get behind, rather than losing your gear or whatever)
and PETS!! but pets that can follow you outside on city jaunts to really put pressure on your gfx cards! ;-p

FOr me here is my ultimate PvP Centric MMORPG:
First take the PvP mehcanics of WoW (hit boxes and stealth implementation) as well as the mail system, quest system, auction house and graphics. Then add in the unrestricted PvP environment of Shadowbane along with its city building, nation forging, resource mines and robust charatcter development system (the best in the genre IMO) and we are on our way to a solid MMORPG.
Next I would take out the level grind or make it more enjoyable by integrating it with quests. Each quest completion would increase you in level and gain you skill and attribute points based on how well you complete all the objectives of the quest. Quest should be class and/or race based and should include direct PvP like...Kill X player classes of X race at X rank..etc. As you progress further in levels the quests get very hard but doable in a solo fashion so that casual gamers can progress in there own time.
Equipment, should be fairly standard like in Shadowbane where there isn't any kind of overpowering gear and is attainable by anyone through various means...either quests, direct sale or crafting. No PVE raid instances in fact no instances at all....all raids should concetrate soley on PvP, with seiging and mine fights.
Buffs. No bots. All buffs should be self buffs and not targettable. No group heals only single target and give healer classes combat vaibility so they will be played.
Players should be able to buy small peices of property and put houses on them where they can safely keep there loot. They should be protected by the hosting clan territory...so as long as the territory is un contested the home is safe....if the territory is taken the home can be destroyed and all loot taken from its coffers.
Clans should have thee ability to make strongholds with the purpose of holding a territory and they should be able to fortify their borders (fences, walls towers etc). They can eventually start inviting business to their terrotory by renting out space to attract merchants and traders. This will give a great advantage to being in a clan....and yet a solo player can offer to buy a piece of property and put a home there as long as they follow the hosting clans laws. Clans can fight for control over various territories with each territory bringing with various rewards for holding it. This will keep the end game alive for quite some time.
Have a very minimal backstory...enough to give people and idea of what casue they would like to take up, but let the player interaction in the game dictate the story....in other words...the game is the story and the players write it everyday....future expansions and free content should be directly influenced by how the world develops through player actions. This way we dont haave carebear whiners saying that X is not lore complaint and therefore invalid. That arguement gets old.
This would be the ultimate MMORPG ever. If I have the money I would put it in development right now. I have written on paper every facet of this game from skills to classes to combat and even 300+ items. Now I just need a few million to market and develop it. Anyone wanna spare a few bucks?
I would be keen to an overall 'Civilization' type of MMO... This game would have to be huge and expansive... Think a hybrid of the characters of of Second Life, the urban setting ofMatrix Online (MXO truly does suck), crafting of SWG and the instant action comat from games like GW and CoH...
Character creation would consist of humans of all races and all backgrounds... Factions and affiliations would be a mirror image of what we have today for religions and political parties worldwide... I reiterate, this game would have to be enormous... You could be a thuggish gangster dead seat against ruining the ecnoomy and killing for personal gain... You could be a cop, fighting the gangsters... You could be billionare that goes out on expansive safari hunting retreats... Vigilantes, outlaws, terrorists and etc, basically whatever you want to be...
Tying combat into a realistic setting like this would be tough, but events such as army invasions, and alien invasions for that matter, would throw everyone into the battle... With such a realistic setting, you would be able to incorporate a lot of the ideas we see in such movies as War of the Worlds and etc, and tie this into the combat system, somehow...
This would involve ZERO fantasy, and minor elements of SciFi... Just enough SciFi to keep everyone interested... Political espionage would play a part, as would the effects of globalization... The world would be, well, it would be the world as we know it. Earthquakes, Tsunamis and other events driven by mother nature would play a crucial role in this as well.. How many of you have played a RTS and had an uncontrollable disaster like a storm or earthquake tear apart your city? Imagine this on an MMO... That would rock... Your time and 'money' could essentially be wiped out due to a catastrophe like this... Talk about raising the element of risk... The log in screen would read like a newspaper, with breaking events and what not...
Cars would obviously be transporation, that and aircrafts too... This wouldn't totally mirror reality, for example, you wouldn't have to go to work everyday and clean out the toilet 'virtually'... But enough realism and enough wonder would make for an excellent MMO... With a detailed enough of a character creation, you could even make all of the 'cliques' that we have all come to know... You could have guilds, or 'cultures' that reflect goth, hip-hop, preps and etc... The social aspect of this game would be a driving force...
The economy would start off NPC, and gradually grow into a player driven setting once everyone finds their places in this virtual 'Earth'... For instance, you would be able to buy a 9mm from a NPC gun store, but once their are players that wish to craft their own weapons, the amounts of NPC's woud dwindle as more player created goods become available... The crafting, again, would have to be like SWG, best crafting system of all time... And the crafting professions would resemble what was also offerred by SWG, with some more 'materialistic' professions that are found in Second Life...
Any thoughts to this?
alot of these sound great...keep em comin

Dawn of the Dead was on again last night and my vote is still for Dawn of the Dead mmorpg
What could be more fun than a world overrun and you trying to eek out a survival under those conditions and maybe even trying to retake parts of the world eventually. Could even be PvP but if you play as a Zombie you don't have total control of yourself and sometimes when you press left you go right :P
