My god, it possibly takes the cake as the absolute worst implementation of attempted PvP I've seen in my gaming career (I started playing MMOS in 1998 with Ultima Online.)

What a joke, this games attempt at PvP screams of complete and utter garbage.  There was absolutely no attempt to make a fun PvP system.  For me, as a Monk, in my first game I was put to sleep (sleep last over 30 seconds each time) 8 times in a row.  All I could do is chase a stupid healer in circles spamming the one or two abilities I could when in distance.

there is absolutely no strategy, it's not fun.  It's a slap in the face to MMO gamers to try to pass this off as an acceptable update/mini game/add on feature, whatever you want to call it.  It plain sucks.  I'm sorry, it makes Everquest 2's added on crappy PvP system look like a gift from god.

I seriously can't understand what they were thinking...It's literally terrible.

Funny how you say there is no strategy... yet you were completely crippled due to someone else's strategy. The other team knew what they were doing, you didn't. It's that simple. A good monk in PvP is devastating if they know how to avoid being slept and stay on top of their target. If you do get slept, there is a PvP skill called Purify (which you can, and will want to get, very easily by doing just a handful of matches to level up your PvP rank) which removes any CC effects (like sleep, stun, etc) from yourself. You also have healers who can remove sleep from you. As a Monk you also have the ability to AoE Pacify (prevent use of weapon skills) the enemy group for 9 seconds, as well as get a skill called Fetter Ward which makes you resist CC effects. So you actually have 2 PvP skills you can obtain which make you immune to sleep, causing the 3rd sleep attempt on you to only last a few seconds if they get it off. You also have the ability as a monk to completely cripple targets, especially the casters attempting to sleep you, through the use of 2 different stun attacks, a spammable silence, and pure attack speed (any direct hit you land on a caster while they are casting a spell will interrupt their spell).

BTW, sleep does not last 30 seconds each time. It has diminishing returns, cutting the duration of it down by about half each time you are slept witin a certain timeframe, and then a full resist if used again. If you actually dragged out the fight long enough to be slept for max duration 8 seperate times you were just plain bad and failed to kill the person sleeping you like you should have. You as a monk, as well as a paladin if that was your tank in the group (spammable stun as well as a silence), should have been keeping the BLM or healer sleeping you incpacitated long enough for your group to kill the in a matter of seconds.

Anyway, I do agree however that the PvP was rather disappointing after this wait for it's release. Not for any of the reasons you mentioned though. It's just very lackluster. 1 tiny arena map repeated over and over again, no options for fighting in multiple locations, very short matches, etc. After putting it off for a few months I was expecting more of a battleground / WAR scenario / GW2 sPVP type matches with actual variety in both looks and objectives to complete to win the match. It just got boring after doing it for a few days.

In the future they will be releasing more of an RvR style PvP system with larger battles in PvP zones with actual objectives, so maybe then it will get pretty fun. For now though it's very dull.
