Say bye bye to SWG as you knew it its cancelled

in Star Wars Galaxies

The show X-play on G4 stated (after a review of Battlefront 2) that LA just released info that SWG is being wiped and turned into an online action game rather than an MMORPG because of its lack of success.

I am also told by a source that SOE license of SWG ends in January and has not been renewed at this time.
NGE fanbois enjoy your game while it lasts then move on as the vets now will.

I suppose soon SWG will not have a forum spot on an MMORPG website <shrug>

    Sounds like a mix of old info with rumor. The NGE isn't even a MMORPG anymore anyway.

    Isn't that wat BF2 is? So they will have two online action star wars games? Eh, seems stupid, but I wouldn't say it can't happen. But somehow I doubt SOE would be putting all this work into a game that will end in a few days. But I could be wrong.

    If you look at the G4 schedule listing, the Battlefront 2 review (shown 30/12/05) was originally aired on 06/12/05. If the broadcast that the OP is referring to was a simple replay of a three week old show, then I would have expected an official announcement by now. I think rumours of SWG's death are being somewhat exaggerated.

    You guys are funny. You probably kneel by your little mates beds every night praying that SWG will be cancelled so you can come onto the forums and say "I told ya so!" Which, incidentally, is the O.P.s forum name. I wonder which cowardly SWG hater made that account to try and spread this rumor. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

    It's not getting cancelled, but I do hope everyone gets what they want from life.image

    Actually it's not all NGE haters that want to see SWG die. I loved SWG. Was there since day 7. But this new game is a disgrace to Star Wars. It is a disgrace to the unique, entertaining game that it once was. I want to see it die. Perhaps then some other company will do StarWars justice and develop a game that is deserving of the title.

    Yes I want to see SWG die before it becomes the laughing stock of the entire MMORPG community. For old times stake, it doesn't deserve that.

    You got the message kinda mixed up. They said they're turning it into more of an online action game. It's still ganna be an MMORPG in a way and...ya...

    personally i hope this is true and i hope another company makes an Actual MMORPG out of star wars and i hope LA doesent renew with SOE BUTTTT i bet this is just another mad vet who created an account called "Toldyaso" and just made it to spread rumors.....more the power to ya im not complaining...just wish it was true...we'll see

    Thats pathetic really is.Even though i left SWG when the first jedi popped up (yes that long ago) i had the grace to accept that my "kind " of crowd was no longer SoE focus for SWG and left gracefully.And you know what within a few weeks i found other games to play.

    Spamming the forum and going as far as to create an account to write false rumours is low low low.

    False information or not, the game still sucks azz.. And only fanbois still play that piece of crap that SOE
    call a MMORPG. The game we all knew, whether you liked it or not when it was released is not the same
    game and should just end up in the MMORPG bone pile. Let SWG join the ranks of Earth and Beyond I
    say and lets move on.

    SOE..... man, i both hate them and love them. they are ruining Starwars Galaxies but they are making EQ2 greater and greater!

    IF they make a SWG2 i want to see that game polished and smooth as hell. With like cutsences when you want to land or something, maybe flyable mounts, modern UI, maybe new graphics, Working mechanics, real loot, new nice looking weapons and all that good stuff. I think thats the only way they can save this one now. Even if pre-cu server came, they probably wouldnt hit the numbers to compete in anything. But in swg2 i hope they come up with some system to make it really hard to get jedi and have some kind of jedi population limit. They should build a whole enw jedi system kinda like pre-cu with a council and definetly a FRS. And they should also move the timeline to something that doesent restrict them so much and make things not fit into the time period...

    I wish the new year will mean less of "fanboi, n00b, etc" name-calling. And maybe, just maybe, more people understanding the meaning of subjectivity.

    Sorry, no mercy for SOE and its fanbois. This is one guy that fell for that carrot trick in the past, but
    not anymore. Was like every fanbois out there at one time, defending the game. Boy I was way wrong!
    And to believe I told peeps in the past, it would get better. I was on a sinking ship and didnt even know it.

    5 accounts and 3 years later, EVERYTHING has been cancelled and all 271 friends I knew on the game
    are all gone playing another MMORPG or have switched to 1st Player Shooters.

    Just with the new york times article that stated EQ2 as having 500k subs in december. And I hope you won't be typical of the people who ask for proof and say that the new york times is not reputable. All you have to do is play EQ2 to see that there are more people playing now than since before the combat revamp. EQ2 is a fantastic game, if you have the system for it.

    eh?? the only upgrade they're doing right now is PvP, no beginner class (soon you can become the Sub-class in the beginning) and more places to go... they have made a combat revamp once.. but never again (I belive)

    HAH yea "never again", just you wait....after the cu hit swg there was supposed to be no revamp ever again also. but no they couldnt resist screwing the game completely.....

    actually I can, there are a few things I am not happy with the new build atm, but my guild consist of entirely new players, 37 and rising now, all fully active within 2 months (not the free trial and run deal) most bought in retail (the new box) or tried the free trial and went full. Needless to say about 80% are jedi :P but eh, I guess that was bound to happen. However at least those that play it longer have changed careers, so the career balances out there are off atm , but I belive they will even out slowly.

    I am not happy that we have no factional pets anymore and many other things that suck, but eh I am a starwars fan and the changes (beyond the negatives to me) are good and outweigh  the bad, not to mention all the new people joining daily, it's actually getting populated again, I am glad to see most of the whining vets gone. Not to mention with the new decay going on, soon all the thousands of empty houses and harvesters will be by by from the un-activated accounts. I say, good riddance.

    Its funny how people who hardly or never touched EQ2 know so much about the game .

    I was there at launch and can say it probably has more now then it did then.I dunno if it has passed the 500k mark yet as some stated as i have read no such article but it would not suprise me one bit if it did.
