Second Life, the game that puts the focus in the Role Play of MMORPG, has announced that they have reached their 100,000th game resident. In Second Life, players (or residents) are encouraged to create just that... a second life online in a world that is controlled and shaped by the residents:

2005 ends with a bang as Second Life welcomes its 100,000th resident. Thanks to everyone for making the world such an exciting place!

If I might just do a small comment, Second Life is not "the game that puts the focus in the Role Play of MMORPG", but rather, "a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents." (from What is Second Life?).

The difference is quite important — Second Life is not, and does not claim to be, either a "game", a MMORPG, or "focused towards Role Play". All of those are present in Second Life — there are games inside Second Life, and some of these games are role-playing games. Some people, even without participating in one of those role-playing games, do still "play roles" (because they want to).

Brad, you might get some ideas on how to improve performance at this article. Like you, I suffered from many weeks of "unplayability" just because I did not know how to change the preferences properly...
