Anyone noticed the Firefly MMO news lately

Talk about a bunch of yahoos, they are making it so it will play on ios and Android.  That has to be loser written all over it.  

Whoever sold them the IP should be crucified.

    Thats old news.

     

    I can't see a Firefly MMO working anyway.   That show was all about the characters.    An MMO would be just another generic sci fi MMO, albeit with a somewhat familiar setting.  

     

    Better to let that IP rest in peace.

    I saw something about someone making a Firefly MMO but they didn't have the rights yet (and likely never will), but I saw nothing about it being on iOS or Android. Maybe it was another project.

    I'd actually be really up for this, assuming it was well-made.  The TV show should never have been cancelled.  Does anyone watch Castle.  I like all the Firefly references they mix in!

    probably a last ditch attempt, but it seemed to be little more than vapourware anyway, if anything came of the ios/android thing i would be extremely surprised.image

    Well I think it's good news, I will have Elite and then Star Citizen on PC so a tablet based SciFi space game will be a good alternative.

    I do watch castle but never caught any Firefly references other than having "Jane" on the Show (Adam Baldwin) as Ethan Slaughter.

    I still watch Firefly as I have the dvd set. run it through and then run it through again.

    i missed that episode of castle, but its not the same anyway. And i don't know how many times i watch the series a year, also have complete set of the series and the Film Serenity. I think Fox must be idiots to have scrapped the series image

    Firefly was a great show.

    I understand the game is being developed cross-platform, meaning it can be played on PC and iOS / Android?

    That's what I thought at fist, but this isn't the maybe-ware that didn't have ip rights, and isn't the vaporware from Multiverse (that really did have the rights) either.


    This is the new project that was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con 2013, and does have the rights. (The mobile-only stance means it's less interesting than the two failed projects though)

    Firefly Universe Online is the one that was a full on MMORPG, but didn't have permission. DarkCryo took over development and they have gotten permission from Fox, but it's based on not using actual characters from the show. They have to avoid direct copyright infringement. I'd like to confirm what I'm remembering here, but unless you were active in their community the entire time this was going on, you don't get to see anything on their site. My login expired so all I get in the page asking for a username/login.

    Firefly Online is a "strategic online role playing game" based on Firefly, with permission from Fox. It'll be for Windows and Mac computers.

    I'm not sure about the reference to iOS and Android, I see a news article on this, but no actual websites.

    I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
