I no longer "await" release dates untill it's at least a few weeks till release. Call it my bitterness towards the world, or an awakening that they'll delay games, release it STILL bugged, and make patches up for it later even though it was half-operational at launch. It's a silly trend that a lot of developers are getting away with... and not much we can do about it.

EB knows about as much about the release date as I do but honestly I would say less because that date is way too early. EQ2 hasn't even started taking beta apps but somehow they'll have the game out in 5 months, not gonna happen. A much more realistic release date will be sometime late summer but that's being optimistic.
World of Warcraft has been in the creation for 5 years, no doubt EQ2 has had the same thing. They're probably going to make sure it's a stress test, they're already incorperating some EQ2 things into EQ1, so they dont have to do a lot of testing that most games do. Remember people, EQ is the largest MMO in America, possibily the world, they're able to test in many different ways.
I believe this game may come out a lot sooner than a lot of you rant about.

Its not just EB saying it, the community relations guy for EQ2 said March as well. There is always the chance it will be delayed again but it was supposed to be out this year originally and I can easily see them doing their Beta in under 5 months (whether that is a good thing or not...).
I think it will be out by March as they are claiming, if not then soon after.
I think EQ2 will pull a SWG. Release the game early before its balanced and finshed - then rack in the millions of dollors from people who subscribed for 6 months or a year, making it a financial success. Then come the patches that slowly devour the game from the inside out, while players wait for an expansion.
Well, its definitely going to be a financial success one way or the other. The question is will they be diligent and make sure it runs well right from the start, or will they just ride on EQ's fame and have half a million unhappy but paying customers.
Sony as a company has been having financial difficulties lately, I hope that doesnt impact things like EQ2. If they decide they need some more income and rush it out the door that wont be good for anyone.
Sony having financial probs.... well, they could always give the whole project over to Microsoft. <BIG GRIN> Then they could incorporate everyones favorite mmorpg AC2 into it. Then we all could eat a nice Kraft dinner and look for buried treasure! <looks around>

I didnt say they were going bankrupt. They have however had some of the worst financial quarters they have had in years. The latest said their sales are down 25% from this time last year. Im talking about Sony, not SOE specifically.
SoE is probably doing quite well as far as profits since many of its online and offline games are doing very well, but they may feel the pinch if their parent company is having other financial difficulties in electronics sales and their movie productions.
Then again with deep pockets, the success of the orignal, and a desire to make EQ2 the next big thing they will probably not allow finances to be the deciding factor.

It's a completely new game with a lot of new features. There will be a lot more going on during beta then just a stress test. The chance that they can finish this game by march is complete fantasy.
EQ is the largest MMORPG in the US but in the world, not even close. Korea is the place for MMORGP's as something like 1 in 10 people play one. Lineage for example peaked at around 4 million subscribers at one point.
So whey they're not thinking about nukes, they're thinking about Lineage. lol.
Sony is on the RIAA list as one of the founders... so maybe their "hurt" comes from that. Of course... the whole RIAA thing is another huge can of worms so I'll just shut my mouth now.

Yes i agree with Gunblade (except the mean parts). I suggest you stop raving about EQII and say it's the best. Of course, EQII has as much of a chance as any other MMORPG, but you can't just go around saying that, because if EQII turns out as a stinker everyone will be laughing in your face, even your new computer will be.
I am almost positive that i believe WoW will be the best, but i don't say it all the time

Be a miracle if they get EQ2 out before may.
And i expect it to be very buggy as i noticed that the more complex the game gets the more bugs it gets.
so what are you saying...
