F2p is pretty much p2w .exception probably exist tho.but they won't beat a game like gw2.tsw is a very good game as a filler .can't play all the time mood is too gloomy . I play neverwinter and I have to say it is literally the best f2p title .and it is worth it to support that title (10$ish a month)tes its that Nice .foundry Aline is futur proofing this title a lot . if cryptic release PvP ,dugeon raid and raId pvp version of foundry ? dont sweat it perfect world/cryptic have a winner .yes foundry is a huge feature that is the deciding factor for this title being interesting why ?the setting .it is set in a world a huge amount of people have read countless stories s hinted at from r
I just wrote a reply with my thoughts on subject but deleted it. This again? How long do we have to discuss this?

Thank god you linked those - we need another thread about this like we need a hole in the head.
I reached the conclusion some years ago that there are really only about a dozen actual discussions that take place here and they get consistently rehashed with only specific details (the name of the game being discussed) that actually change.
Hell, just check out some of the stickied posts like the solo vs. group one and see people just go around in circles regurgitating the exact same points. The names change, but the content is just repetitive.
Heh, just like with modern mmos....
Maybe modern was in this by accident cause it's not just modern mmos.
Which is fine though because all MMORPGs have repetitive content, yet I enjoy some MMORPGs so it's not an issue.
I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.
I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.
P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
Age of Conan, Aion, APB Reloaded, DCUO, Dragon Nest, DDO, EQ 2, Global Agenda, LOTRO, Planetside 2, Rift, Star Trek Online, SWTOR, TERA...man, the list of hugely popular F2P games goes on. It's definitely here to stay as a business model.
Here you are maybe you shall find a job than to troll people who enjoy P2P models?
First F2P model are mostly focused or Cash Shop updates little game content development.
Complex monetization system Example: gold in game currency / Arki for AA example / Crystals cash shop currency / $$
Show me a F2P game that have any huge Expansions !! And if there are such reality is hidden World Of Tanks huge income but did you know that at top levels you go in - without premium. i will stop now because I don't want to waste my time on a brainless troll .
Forgot to mention another benefit of P2p is that I will not hear you're wining in game. So sub money are worth this ^^
Show me a P2P game, other than WoW, that has HUGE expansions.
There were so many MMOs that offered paid expansions at one time. Here is a list of games I've paid for expansions as well as subscriptions at one point or another.
SWG had Paid expansions
Anarchy Online had Paid expansions
City Of heroes had Paid expansions
Rift had a paid expanion before it went F2P
I didn't play it, but I believe DAoC had them as well.
SWTOR
LOTRO
GW2
EQ2
DDO
Lineage 2
Oh, and all of the above are still active games, too, not games which are shut down.
Exactly what does that have to do with the question here?
I don't believe this topic was about the decline of the P2P model and that the question was pretty straight forward otherwise. Every example I listed meets the context of the 2 requests in the above posts to "show me......"
The fact is, P2P games release larger scale expansions to encourage more boxed sales, where F2P games release content that encourages micro-transactions.
Hell, look at Rift. The game was balls to the wall with releases as P2P but since F2P, how's it been?
I'll better pay 15 $ monthly than to be forced to farm something. Or to pay 10$ for every little new thing available only in cash shop. Plus game is build so that you are forced at some extent to buy Premium.
So many threads on this subject, BUT I will say this ..... AMEN Brother! P2P all the way!
F2P games are too much expensive , I am leave STO coz cant spend 50+$ monthly or spend gameplay on hard core grind half day.
F2P is illusion !
but you still have option such as GW2. I think many people actually plays that game for free without problem.
One of the problem I left atlantica online is the same. That's my favorite mmorpg. But way too expensive to compete. I think I spend 200$ a month for a while.

Of those you listed, none are great to play as "f2p" titles. ALL are marketed with the idea to get you IN but all require that you pay something at some point to FULLY enjoy the experience. As the wise man says "you get what you PAY FOR".
It's obvious there's a big increase in F2P games, and stats clearly point towards the F2P market as the leaders for money making, but is this really the case? And is this good for gaming as a whole?
Not true, Monthly sub makes far more money then F2P unless your game is a failure and not attracting enough players, then the F2P model seems to do better. So for lower quality games the F2P is viable.
GW2 is a good example, as arguably the premier F2P game, yet it makes less each quarter then some of the lesser known Monthly sub games, and is not even a blip on the radar of sub games like WoW.
What I mean is, I could probably count on 1 hand the subscription based MMORPGs that are out currently.
Now for the F2P market, it seems as if there's a new game being released every day.
There are not triple AAA MMO titles released every day. Games from unheard of developers to select audiences that only people on this site have heard of? sure, if you count that niche. In my experience the only MMOs that are worth trying are those that are released by major gaming studios, and generally those are Monthly sub even today, like FF14, ESO, Wildstar.
I just feel like saying that F2P games are more profitable isn't really a fair comparison...
It's not about fair, its just simply not true. If your game is trash then F2P may work, if your game is even moderately decent then monthly subs clearly make more money this is a fact, simply check investors reports.
F2P is great for games like league of legends, where cash has nothing to do with success or rewards.
F2P is horrible for MMORPGs, where the games are all about obtaining stuff via playing.
Play to win, not pay to win.
F2P is the worst thing to happen to MMORPGs. It yields pay to win scenarios where people get stuff they should be earning in the game thru their wallets. It yields lower quality players. It has spawned a new generation of lame gamers who think paying their way thru games is ok and/or who feel more entitled than ever.
MMORPGs are at their best when everybody is on equal footing for potential. Where everyone pays the same, has the same access, has the same opportunities - and where how well you play and how much you play determine your success.
Not how much you're willing to pay or pay extra.
A lot of pay to win revolves around the concept of people not having enough time to play and being able to buy things other people get thru having time to play. Well, I'm sorry, but MMORPGs have always and should always be about time - time spent playing, and if you don't have the time, too bad - do something else or deal with the fact that people who do have appropriate amounts of time are going to have more stuff.
Being able to buy your way thru games is weak. It's kind of like having cheat codes in single player gaming, which is weak enough - but paying extra to effectively cheat is really, really pathetic.
It's also silly when people think games should be free. Yeah, multimillion dollar optional entertainment should be free for you. I don't get this mentality...or lack thereof. Sure, crappy games should be free...but who intentionally makes crappy games. Err, nvm, they happen all the time. Neverwinter for ex.
But of course, there really is no free. Somehow these companies want to pay for those millions in development and profit. So they nickel and dime you for content, put cash shops in your face, put premium items up for sale, etc - basically let you buy all kinds of cool stuff you should be earning by playing the game.
If you're just going to buy your cool stuff, why play at all?
Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.
Not true, Monthly sub makes far more money then F2P unless your game is a failure and not attracting enough players, then the F2P model seems to do better. So for lower quality games the F2P is viable.
This just isn't accurate. The most profitable model for games which include a subscription is to have a subscription and a cash shop. Games that have cash shops generally have some form of free option as well, because if you are going to have the cash shop anyway, why limit yourself to getting revenue only from those willing to subscribe?
WoW and TOR both make more money *just from the cash shop portion of their revenue* than most games which include a subscription make from their subs. In 2013, TOR made 139 million from the cash shop, and WoW made somewhere north of 200 million. So TOR's cash shop revenue in 2013 was the equivalent of more than 750,000 people subscribing for an entire year. That doesn't even include the money they got from actual subscriptions. How many games which offer a subscription can you think of that have that many subscribers? I can think of exactly one.

I honestly don't care how I pay as long as the game is really good and keeps my interest!!
This topic would never make me like or dislike a game!!
So many threads on this subject, BUT I will say this ..... AMEN Brother! P2P all the way!
People shouldn't even call games like lotro, swtor F2P.
Since a huge percent of players actually pay a subscription in those games.
The main problem with P2P for me is why would I pay 15$ a month when I can play GW2 without monthly payment?
The problem is companys cutting price to maintain player base.
F2P games are too much expensive , I am leave STO coz cant spend 50+$ monthly or spend gameplay on hard core grind half day.

Because buying cool stuff helps get even more cool stuff?
Because it let you kill other players?
Because you can show it off in games?
There are tons of reasons.
Yep, myself too.
