It's a curse I'm afraid.

I have desires for games that seemingly do not exist. I also play games on a toaster, so my options are extremely limited and I find it difficult to settle down anywhere. I have complicated taste. However, perhaps I'm overlooking my perfect game?

I want a game where crafting matters, is in-depth, and(if possible) interactive. I don't want to choose a class when making a character, I don't want a class at all - I want my weapon to be my class, and I want to gain abilities based on my proficiency with that weapon. I want quest to matter. I don't want to level by questing, I want to level up so I can unlock quest. I don't want my characters level to determine how good I am with a sword, I want a mastery that gains exp as I train with a sword. I want there to be truly unique, one-of-a-kind items/quest that only one person can ever own/do. I want there to be a real risk with death. I want the game to be challenging, but not tedious. I want there to be a balance between solo and party content. I want open world pvp that utilizes an infamy system to label "murderers". With that, I would also like a standard duel system.

I want a vast landscape that encourages exploration. I would prefer there not be a mini-map, or a different version of a mapping system to encourage the player pay attentions to their surroundings, rather than their map. I want bosses that are difficult not in the sense that they have a lot of HP and defense, but rather that they have dynamic mechanics and punish those (who don't pay attention)/with slow reaction times. I want bosses to stay challenging, and not become weak due to a power-creep or tiers of armour being far too powerful. I want my ability as a player to matter, not the depth of my pockets. I would prefer my skill as a player be stronger than overpowering gear.

It's difficult to imagine any game fits the criteria of the game I want to play, but I'll stay hopeful.

For reference, I've played a lot of multiplayer games. More than I'll be able to list, but I'll name some to give an idea of the background I come from.

Perfect World MY-EN, Perfect World International, Allods Online, RuneScape, Tibia, GunZ: The Duel, Vindictus, Silkroad Online, Rohan: Blood Feud, Runes of Magic, Cabal, Dragon Nest, Asda Story, Fiesta, Archlord, Forsaken World, Aion, Luvinia Online, Atlantica Online, Jade Dynasty.

I really enjoy the storytelling and questing of RuneScape and Tibia and the skill-based combat of Vindictus and GunZ(moreso with swords rather than the actual guns), but after having played these for many years, I've grown tired of them. Please assist.

If you have any MMO standards whatsoever you'll just switch to consoles or find another hobby and save yourself the heartache. There is literally nothing worthy playing right now MMO wise, except maybe project 1999 if you can stomach the graphics.

I don't see how switching to consoles will help me finding a good MMO. In fact, I didn't even know consoles had a real MMO yet. Lobby games don't count.

Graphics don't bother me. Being someone whose always owned a very old, out-dated computer, I play on minimum settings even in old games. As for Project 1999, I'll look into it.

Hope you like the waiting game....

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Hmm.. things I could suggest are ArcheAge, Elder Scrolls Online or Everquest Next/ Landmark? Problem is these are yet to be released, Everquest Landmark is the earliest (between now and February)  but it is just crafting as far as I can tell (think of it as an advanced version of Minecraft).

For games already released.. not sure. ^^; (sorry I could not be more helpful D:)

I would second either UO free server specifically www.uoforever.com or try out EVE online. ( www.eveonline.com). Good luck

The closest thing to what you want is Dark Souls. There is no MMO like what you describe. I doubt there ever will be.

The list of MMOs you've played is also pretty terrible. You obviously go for the ftp market. You will always be unsatisfied with your games if you aren't willing to pay for proper ones.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Sorry OP but you'll have to settle for some text-based MUDs, but at least you said graphics don't really matter to you, and if it's roleplay / immersion you're after you'd probably enjoy titles like Achaea or Imperian

Since this description seems eerily similar to a certain anime that, while providing potentially interesting ideas for game mechanics, should not be the source of standards being forced onto MMO's and probably should not be named on this website and will most certainly gain me the wrath of someone eventually for so much as mentioning it, I'm gonna go with no.

If you're willing to make quite a few sacrifices from that list, however, Mabinogi might cure your boredom for a while. Vindictus was made after it as a prologue, but the playstyle is drastically different. The game basically devalues leveling. Every some number of weeks you can reset your character's level and keep your skills, and the only limiting factor there is skill-wise is your race choice, though humans are balanced enough to mess around with everything. The only thing resembling a class system is one that will let you choose a certain set of skills to train twice as fast, which can be changed when you reset your level. The skills themselves are all trained separately by using them, and the combat is somewhat of a rock-paper-scissors dance that makes it difficult to clear most dungeons without a group until you've reached a sufficient level of power. There are a good number of story quests as well, and last I checked each "Generation(A sequence of quests basically)" is unlocked either at a certain total level or after completing a prerequisite one. I should probably note, however, that a good portion of the playerbase just wears fancy clothing and hangs out in this one town being practically useless, though the upside is that people tend to be pretty social as a side effect. Did I mention it could probably run on a potato? It's been around a while, even if you're used to bad graphics on your "toaster," it's really something else.

The only class of games I can think of that meets your criteria would be MUDs, though most will be lacking at least one of those. (In fact I don't know a game that can have the 'quest only one person can do ever' except for pretty much freeform RP on forums and such).

Upside is that you can play MUDs on toasters and worse.

Possible downside is MUDs are all text. I've enjoyed quite a few myself but for some people that's a total turnoff.

But the really big upside is, again, you'll get stuff like you describe that you won't find in any mainstream game. Some of them can be pretty interesting. Above poster mentioned a few F2P, but there are also some decent to good completely free ones that won't pressure you to spend more for advantages... Off the top of my head, Discworld MUD and Carrion Fields were two I played for a while.

Hope you find something worth playing.

    Cheers and good luck.

I've been waiting for a great many years for a worthwhile game to surface and I'll continue to wait as long as necessary. At this rate, however, I'll have to make my own game.

While everything you suggested does look like very good titles(I'm particularly interested in ESO, having played the single player games since the early 90s), I lack the funds for a computer capable of playing such games at the moment. If things go well for me over the next month, I would definitely be joining in for its release.

I've given UO quite a bit of thought, but I always avoided it because of EA and the endless talk of how the main game is bad and has been getting worse for a long, long time. But if what I've read about UOF is true, it's more popular than even the main game. I'll definitely be giving this a shot, but the download speed for the client is horrendous.

Having played Dark Souls to death, I can assure you that it doesn't fit what I'm talking about. The fights are basically scripted. My choice in games is typically due to the 10 year old computer I use(not to say I've played all of these games for very long, anyway). I've spent a majority of my time in perfect world(1.3.6), runescape and tibia. I definitely enjoyed the feel of getting stronger as I progressed in runescape and tibia more, I more-or-less only played perfect world for so long due to its pvp. That, of course, was ruined when they updated, so I've since stopped playing.

I lack the imagination to get into MUDs. At one point in time I could do it, but life has a funny effect on people as they get older.

I've racked my brain several times over and I just can't seem to recall any cartoon that resembled my desires in a game, or any game for that matter. If you could give me a name, I'd surely like to see if it's true. As for Mabinogi, back when Vindictus was first coming out, I had planned to look into it after hearing Vindictus was based on it. However, I read that it was little more than playing dress up with dolls in a 2D environment. You've described an entirely different game, though. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a look too.

Waiting for the same thing....like a lot of others here.

Only games ive found that fit, even as recently as looking this week is UO and Albion Online.

I've been thinking about trying a UO private server...but i'm still uneasy about the legality of those servers...
