Meh! I feel they could of used that money elsewhere for better content or more importantly better animations. Motion Capture Animations would of done this game real justice IMO.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
I don't care too much about whose voice it is, but it would be way more awesome if they had the ability to let you open up a book, and have the book read aloud to you while you were doing something else. The voice would be similar to the character who wrote the book.
that would make a difference in my book.
Eh, I would draw the line there. It makes sense that characters who are talking to you would actually be, you know, talking. But when you start turning books into audio-books in a fantasy world, that's promoting illiteracy a little too much for my taste.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.
I don't care either way, to be honest. I will normally read a main story line quest, but I won't for the random trash quests most games have. However, Voice Overs do help in getting me to sit there and read/listen

I'm pretty sure the game isn't marketed to 10 or 12 year olds with its M rating. If you cant read by the time your 18, this game is certainly not going to help you achieve that.
Voice actors aren't paid nearly as well as people seem to think they are. Being a "famous" voice actor just means you don't have to scrounge for enough work to make a living, people come to you. It's not like a movie, where a "famous" actor would add millions to your budget. They are paid for working (whoopee) and that's it.
But it does add notoriety, which I'm sure they are very happy about. And the difference between good acting and bad acting is very noticeable. Assuming the same quality could be achieved with "just anybody" is a strange stance to take. These actors are widely used because they are good. Random people = Skyrim. And that was painful 99% of the time.
Even though it's probably sarcasm... yes, as a matter of fact the game did earn them quite a bit of money.
Did you see the 200+ million from just microtransactions alone over the last year? Now add into that all the subscriptions since the game launched and all the box sales before it went F2P.
EA themselves said that they are quite pleased with it now that they have adjusted their expectations and business plan (AKA have accepted it won't be the big WoW killer they wanted, with 10 million subs).
Not sarcasm at all. Every time somebody mentions TOR's"failure" in a completely§ unrelated thread, I try to gently point out that most companies would be perfectly happy to "fail" that way.
Ah alright.
Yeah, I agree - a lot of companies would happily duplicate that "failure". =P
If it was such a horror tale to scare developers away from investing into the game's story I imagine a lot of them would be steering far away it by now; yet look at ESO.
For all the faults SWTOR may have, the stories and the VO's are actually one of the things they did right, and often get praised for.
I think Zenimax/Bethesda know that if they can combine that with solid gameplay... they'll have hit gold.
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

Agreed. The developers on SWTOR also said that the voice actors weren't nearly as expensive as people are always assuming.
I imagine the famous ones just get to ask a fee that's in the upper scale of the industry standard, and they get to pick which jobs to take without having to worry about when the next gig is coming along.
And of course the thing you mentioned; people come knocking on their doors to offer them a job, not the other way around.

All I can say from my limited time in beta is IMO they have made a positive difference. John Cleese pops up early in the game and projects the same enthusiasm you see in his other work.
Your second option is misleading... they didn't sacrifice from one area or another due to spending money on VO. They will spend what is needed on every aspect of the game without it taking away from one or the other...
Also I am very excited, I like next gen features and VO are next gen. I couldn't play a game without it anymore. I haven't read a single quest in wow in years.

I hear ya.
And for me seeing such a famous cast means that MMO's have pretty much completely caught up to the movie industry - like the guys over at CCP posted in one of their shareholder presentations; the MMO industry is one of the fastest growing segments of the entertainment industry, one that's growing ridiculously fast every year.
This is also shown by the amounts of money that go into the big titles these days, and I agree with you - the VO's don't take money from anywhere else; it's entirely covered by the budget they assigned to VO's.

The cutscenes and voiceovers are what makes me play and replay and replay TSW, awesome quality and storytelling
I believe ESO nearly gets up to TSW standards, so definitely another strong point of the game
Yeah, that's also what brings me back to TSW on a regular basis.
I don't particularly care for the endgame activities on that game, but I LOVE the storytelling and the setting they've created.

I selected YES but only if it doesn't hurt other side of game.
Just hope that 80 % of budget didn't go for celebrity...

Huge waste of money.

as long as i don't hear the same voice actors playing many different characters like you see in skyrim and oblivion, then i am happy.

I can't add to this.
I played a little final fantasy. And the text bubble universe is dull and boring, it dosent help to create a living and vibrant atmosphere.
Good sounds and voice is crucial for my gaming experience.
Looking forward to play Elders scroll

Right.... because if 1 game had good voice acting and sucked otherwise, they all will automatically. Makes sense. ........ wait
