The community is not helping

SnikesSnikes Member UncommonPosts: 76

I don't want to put the blame on everybody but a couple of days ago I managed to log on my SOG account after having configured my gfx settings to be as minimal as possible. Finally I was able to wander on this land (with horrible lag but still painfully playable) and to start exploring the game.

Well, I played a couple of MMO before (Eve, CoH, DAOC, SoR) and I have always been helped at the beginning. On SoG, everytime I asked for infos or help I got my share of "...","U NOOB" to not say when the people over there were laughing at me because I didn't know the game mechanics as well as them.

The game has some interesting aspects but if you add both the horrible engine (in terms of ressource consumption) and the poor community, I don't have many hopes for this game's future.image

As someone pointed out in another post there is a lot of anger and frustration in the community right now. The crappy servers and disappointing game is the main cause, however I do think that most (not all) of the good people have already packed up and left. Now it is mostly kiddies looking for the free game and pissed off SWG refugees  who arrived with a chip on their shoulder.

    I miss DAoC

I agree.  Alot of the people that have followed this game for years are just sick of it and have chosen to move on, me including.  After spending more than 2 years the outcome is just very very sad.  I do still visit the forums though, because I find them very funny to see people complain.

    Very true.

Have to remember that there isnt 1 world wide chat line on DnL so if you are in newbie/spawn/starting barony and you ask a question, you only talk to the beginners/idiots who cant get the game yet celebrate what little they do know and use it to belittle people.

Farlan are completly retarded and incompetent not only with developing but with communication aswell.
Chatting in DnL aka SOG is impossible, darkandlight.com forum is fire-and-forget since there is no search and people pump out duplicate threads making your question/discussion vanish like a fart in space (conveniently all the critisism blend togheter and seem like 1 thread instead of 1 000 000).

Isnt SOG technical an open beta for this game.  Right now the devs seem more concern on getting the content right in the game.  Im sure they know about the technical problems the servers are having now.  They probably move the game to a much more liable webhost, since nobody is paying for the game currently.

Right now its too early to say it sucks or not.  Once this game goes live in april or may, the community would be much better and muture.  You do got alot of rude kiddies that are spoiling beta at the moment.  Hopefully alot of these kiddies dont start becoming the griefer types and ruin the game for everyone.

Have played: CoH, DDO EQ2, FFXI, L2, HZ, SoR, and WW2 online

You are very right about the community - it really sucks right now.

I think a large majority of the pioneers are either not playing, or are getting refunds. I see very few pioneers in the game right now (other than me). And those of us that are there are probably doing like me - turning off the Barony chat because it sucks so bad.

Also, they are just bad players. On the newbie island, you will constantly have people attacking mobs you are already fighting (if they are already engaged in combat, the mob will have a cross sword icon next to it's name, like an X so you know someone else is already fighting it). You also have high level casters killing level 1-4 mobs with area effect spells because they still give experience. 1 FXp per mob times 20 or so mobs is still decent experience. But then they just walk away and leave the dead mobs there without looting, no one else can loot them, and they stay in world for up to 10 minutes causing even more lag.

And then there are the griefer's out in the PvP world that take advantage of bugs in the game to kill higher level players with one swing that crashes the other player, then they take them out just standing there, not fighting back.

It's truly a sad state of the world right now :(

Agree also. My Pioneer is refunded. I look in now and again on my free SoG account.

I think in most cases the explanation is a lot easier...

Almost all of the people who log in to SoG for the first time didnt bother reading the manual. The chat in the starter region is spammed with repeated questions on the most basic stuff (how do I call my pet??, for example - or: where do I find Mobs??). After some time people get annoyed and later angry...just read the manual and try to use your own brain, helps a lot, really. It is also a problem that some people do not respect that SoG is an international game and have their private conversations in the barony chat in french or other languages..thats just rude and does not help building a healthy community.

But that aside, there defenitly is a problem with the current community, I agree.

    /agree

The forum community itself has turned off many even before the "release"? of SOG.  A few friends of mine, serious mmo players, took one look at the boards and never went back. Wont even consider DNL.

I'm a pioneer and still playing on and off, I tend to stay away from the boards now as its just full of kids and whiners, there are a few good people left but I just scan it occasionally now.

I'm still hopeful for the game, and will give it a few months after final release to see how it pans out before I decide to stay or go. Just need to find some good people to play the game with

Its a shame as it did have a superb community.. I think wow and swg forum use is partly to blame tho and they're now just migrating to other forums now inc this one image
