One of the biggest growing trends in PC gaming right now is the concept of early access to unfinished games for a reduced price. While MMO players are often familiar with things like alpha and beta testing, it's new territory for lots of gamers, particularly those on Steam. Rust, a game from the creators of Garry's Mod, is one of the latest entries in the ever-expanding realm of early access games and we took the time to dive in and see if this brutal quest for survival is worth your time and money yet.

If you play this game DO NOT play on the official servers... cheaters, cheaters and more cheaters.
Other than that this game has alot of potential.
I second the first post: avoid official servers at all costs. I'd rather deal with admin abuse than a dozen hackers on the same server.
Lol, they claim 750,000 people have bought the game. Thats what 15mill almost? And they only have 15 employees? More staff would mean these problems can get fixed quicker. And yet we still see hackers, we still see the problems that are causing people to not be able to play the game, we still see companies still not listening to majority of the public. The day the official door share was released, over 50 comments out of 200 were raging about hackers and the glitches. Also not to mention half those copies bought are most likely hackers purchasing new CD keys thanks to VAC (which takes way to long to ban hackers it isn't instant and admins dont ban unless you have video proof (who the fuck does that anyway) Games full of hackers, cbf with hackers? Dont buy Rust, simple as that. Game servers have dropped from 3-4 pages of solid 40-120 players to half a dozen or so at 60 players.. This sudden player drop isn't a surprise when you get punished for playing the game legit (not hacking). I say punished becuase no ADMIN can/will not spawn you your items back. Dont listen to the first two posts, avoid every single server that has a pop of 30 or more. You will most likely encounter a hacker, or someone will be whinging about a hacker. Every single server i've ever played on has had hackers on them. Sad i know.
Everyone is saying this game is great rahrahrah. Sure, when i first bought it i sunk serious hours into the game because i never played DayZ or any survival game of its kind. So RUST was new to me, the idea of building your own base got me. But that gets real boring real fast. After you build a base whats there left to do? Become a bandit. Then what? You can listen to the server crying about you killing someone or many people. Then what? You can log off for the night, come online and see that all your hard work for the past few days is gone. How you ask? Hackers, they dont even need to blow down doors. Anyway just to conclude, if you love being punished for not hacking in video games buy Rust.
This is an early access to an alpha test of course it is not a complete game, there are gonig to be numerous issues with bugs and hackers. This is a good thing because the developers can not find out what the hacks are and try to stop them before the game is released. They can also find a lot more bugs with everyone thats playing as well..
As mentioned before stay off the official servers and get on a server that has actiive admins at least any hackers will get reported to steam and banned off that server.. srue they admins are not going to go around and spawn new items for you because you say you lost 12 m4s due to a hacker as they have no way of seeing what you had or what you didnt.
But at the end of the day its early access to an alpha test. If you dont want to be part of the testing now then wait until release.
Re: endgame, I agree. Im worried that theres no real point to playing after you've experienced most of the mechanics. They will have to add tons of content and tools to make the game a viable sandbox.
At what point is it too early to charge players for games?....THis isnt the fault of the companies, its the gamers.....So many people are looking for that next great game and they will never find it....I'd hate to see how much some of you have spent on worthless, alphas, betas, CEs, lifetime subs, cash shops, and other money pits that these companies throw at you.
Read many reviews on steam. Pity about the hackers. Makes even the PVE servers unappealing, not to mention I read it's hard to get onto those, as they're scarce.
Well, I'll keep an eye on this one, perhaps at some point it will be enjoyable. If it weren't for the hackers, I would probably join a PVE server and learn the ropes until that got old, then hop over to PvP and see how long I could stay alive.
Hope they get it together. Along those lines, I'm also eyeing 7 days to die. I wonder if it is or will be plagued with the same scum of the earth cheaters as Rust?
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

I've played it for a bit and I love it as well. I just tend to play for a couple of days and then wait for an update
to be released. And about the hackers...do you guys not see that all of the top MMO Sandbox's like:
DayZ
Infestation
Being the other 2 that are usually bashed on for being consumed by hackers. So apparently it's not
just a problem for Rust.
game is awesome, fun, and addictive.
it's a video game. not a simulation.
The game may have potential, however yeah, avoid them until they stop the crap!
I am thinking the creators are the cheats, they do nothing to stop cheats and if anybody complains on their official forum they get banned, it adds up to me that the creators want cheaters!

they actually have put out several updates on what they are doing to combat the hackers. the latest one came out earlier today.
Not me, I don't buy that crap. Devs have to EARN my money.
