As someone who waited 5+ years for Vanguard, I really want to see this game kickstart and release. Vanguard may not seem like a big deal to most, but at the time the idea of a giant open world with boats, tons of races, and RP servers was exactly what alot of us were looking for.
Unfortunately the game was spread far too thin, it was just far too ambitious of a project and it went through a development hell. But the community for the game was SO strong, probably the strongest ive seen since SWG. People really loved the idea, and I played for 4 months with a guild of friends and we didnt regret it on bit. The game simply wasnt directed properly, and thus we come to Brad Mcquaid.
After seeing his Boggie interview I have to say, Brad HAS learned alot. Hes not trying to be the legend Brad Mcquaid anymore, the badass take on SOE and make my own EQ to rival theirs Mcquaid we had in early 2000.
This Brad has seen the heartbreaks of his failure and over-ambition, you can believe this man when he says he "Was in a dark place when Vanguard Released". Im sure he was, you dont put 30 million into an indie project that determines the course of an entire company of 40 people and not start to worry. But hes over that now, his Kickstarter is extremely fair priced, even with the stretch goals being a bit overambitious the core game could be released on the budget hes asking for and be good with the dedicated team he has assembled of EQ Vets, UO vets, and the like.
I dont know, does anyone else just want to see this game succeed and actually warrent itself some small token of praise? Or am I being overly optimistic?

I can't wait for this game. been waiting 10+ years for something like this to take me back to my EQ roots. These kids have no idea how good of a game EQ was before it was sold to SOE. The size of the world, the interactions, the fun leveling/grouping/role playing, the DEPT of character progression/customization with the alternate advancement system. This game cant release soon enough. I have been watching the forums for a long time to get me interested in a MMO again. This IS most definitely the game to do so!
I have already donated to kickstarter and I will patiently wait for the game to release in 3 years lol. I hope if this game piques your interest at all you through them a bone so they can release a quality game without the interfearence of a publisher.
Check out the kickstarter if you havent already:

If Brad doesn't make this type of game nobody will. I have backed this Kickstarter. EQ brought me into the mmo genre, and brought me into roleplaying. I would give this man as much as I could if I would.
When I joined into this genre I signed on to play Massively Multiplayer -Role Playing Games-
Not Massively Solo Multiplayer Dungeon games that begin at endgame
25 dollars, 25 dollars for a game that brings back the things we like about mmorpgs. Invest in the project!

Besides, a broken Vanguard is still better than almost every game on the market.
Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!
Absolutely everything in Pantheon is resonating with me, from Brad's AMA to the Boogie interview. I'm not just rooting for it, I'm desperate for it.
If you haven't watched it, you should checkout Boogie's interview of Brad on Youtube.

I am rooting for Pantheon.
And I know a lot of people may think otherwise, but I don't consider vanguard to be a failure. It was a great game. Despite the bugs, I had a blast playing it. I played continually for about a year after release, the community in that game made it great. I played on the FFA PvP server, and you knew just about everyone on the server. Not because it was small or anything, but because the game was designed with community interactions in mind.
If it hadn't lost so many players and had gotten more development resources after the first 6 months, I wouldn't have ever left.
I'm definitely supporting it.
It's a no-brainer for me.
I am really looking forward to Pantheon.
Here is a great interview with Brad. Those who are uncertain about who Brad is and about Pantheon, just check it out.

A typical Kickstarter gets 30-50% of their funding the last few days (~5). The long "middle" period actually typically receives the least funding compared to the start even though it's about 3X as many days as the other periods. Looking at other Kickstarter data (Kicktraq doesn't take into account the huge funding boost at the end for it's tracking), I'd say it's on track to receive funding for it's goal (although, it will barely reach it) if they can keep a typical pace up. It actually had a really bad start and is now having a decent middle funding period.
For comparison here is a Kickstarter going on now that has similar funding goals to Pantheon: http://www.kicktraq.com/projects/482445197/unsung-story-tale-of-the-guardians/ as you can see their start was significantly better than Pantheon's, but their middle funding period isn't doing nearly as well. This is mostly because Pantheon launched with not so great information and messy tiers at the start and has improved as of late.
Guilty.
Another EQ vet here and everything i read about this project brings me back to the old days of EQ. Imagine if it comes off, it will be my new home.
This is the best hope I see coming down the road.
I'm tired of games (hell RL in general) where everybody has to win and get the best stuff, just so they can feel good about themselves.
I want to "walk" through a city, see a character with some badass looking graphics.... and want to be like that. Even if it never would happen because the odds of finding some items would be .003%.
Sure... "when everybody is different, they're all the same." Yeah.. whatever. I'll take that over two dozen clones of the same character.
I want my game world to be dangerous, not just a frolic through some 3d-art.
I want to meet up with people.. stumble.. fall.. lose progress... and have a fun as hell story to laugh about years later. Not just sit in que in some city, to run through a scripted instanced zone.
Rooting for it? Hell yeah.
Backing it? I am still a bit unsure.
I am a $250 dollar supporter. The game lore so far looks very good and I am liking the direction they are going in.
ratero.
Why not back it for $25 then? You can always back out later if you don't like the direction it's headed.
I mean for most people (admittedly I don't know your financial situation) $25 is throwaway money and in 3 years you may have access to an amazing game and can take pride in the fact you helped get it off the ground. At worst you lose $25... Kickstarter is always a gamble of course.
We as gamers need to make sure this project gets kicked off. A change needs to come about where mmos are just not the same on rails games they have become.
I loved Vanguard and am sad to see it sunsetted. Hopefully this game will be a welcome replacement.
I would like to see at least one real character to understand how Pantheon will look graphically.
I have to be honest, one thing that put me off Vanguard was the lame Character and Armor Design (I know pretty shallow).
I could pledge $250 if I like the way the characters/armor looks, because I like everything else.

Boogie's interview with Brad. If this doesn't make you want to back this game nothing will.

Err.. "planar excuse"? Please provide me an example of another game that specifically uses the "collision of different planes" as an explanation for the world's geography? Nevermind enough to make it "tired"?
Oh, there's also this...
And this
But yeah, you're right. Volcanoes near ice caps is totally illogical. Earth's world design is such fail.
"In the age of information, ignorance is a choice".
In other words: Google. It works.
As for the crafting... A game not having a feature you personally find to be mission critical does not mean it actually is mission critical. And please don't appeal to popularity in response. Something being "common", or "popular" does not make it "necessary".
Seriously... All you demonstrate in a post like this is a willingness to bash a project that clearly bothers you in some way - even though the choice to simply not follow or play it is a simple one. It says far more about you as an individual, than it does about Pantheon or the people behind it.
Although I have not yet put my money where my mouth is and contributed to the Kickstarter, I will most certainly be doing so in the very near future.
I am a fan of Brad McQuaid's theories and game design ideas. Even with the whole Vanguard debacle which he can not be solely blamed for I still highly respect him and am very much looking forward to another McQuad inspired title.
Count me in!
Pantheon is exactly what i've been looking for last ten years.
Can't wait to see gameplay videos.
