Blade & Soul: Japanese Teaser Page Raises Speculation

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Steparu.com has unearth a new Japanese language teaser page for Blade & Soul. The article goes on to say that there is yet no word whether or not the game will be IP blocked for Japanese users only and/or when it will be released.

I would say that releasing this game is "too late" but looking at how successful the Chinese version has become, I think it will do just fine in Japan. Call me crazy since I have decked out characters in the Korean version and I decided to level up a new character on the Chinese servers all over again. Nevertheless it was still a fun experience the fourth or fifth time around. Maybe I will explore the Japanese version and start all over again when that comes out and perhaps in the NA/EU version which is going to be released... uhh maybe this year?

Amazing how B&S has been known about since a good while before Aion was ever released. I actually contemplated whether or not there was any point to playing Aion if B&S was going to be NC's flagship and completely overshadow Aion. Hah, now I know.

Time to resume my attempt at learning Japanese, I guess. With the less than spectacular performance of Aion in EU / NA, and what happened to Lineage / L2, I'm suspecting NC have become very wary about trying to push homegrown games to the Western market.

It feels like this game is going forever labouring....waited long enough already don't u guys think.? and by the time it launches in NA/EU, I lost interest for it.

Is there any English translated servers, maybe with a file that replaces the language file? In a region that doesn't have IP blocks? I've been really wanting to try this game on anything that isn't a private server.

The Chinese version. There is English translation patch, not 100% completed but helpful. English players are scattered in several server though (there are 200+ servers) so you may want to do some research beforehand.

Also note that latency can be an issue depending on where you are located.

Tbh it doesn't matter anymore. This game could have come out in the West 2 years ago and done well. Heck it could have come out late last year and done well. 2013 was a pretty slow year on the MMO market (at least for people who weren't playing any MMOs atm), any company would have a pretty large market of players willing to give their product a shot.

So many Korean games come and go and quite frankly would be profitable in the west. Just wish Koreans would just find some decent people who can localize their product without adding over a year of 'development' time

Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.

I play the Chinese version of B&S as well and have lots of fun! Ping can get a bit bad during peak hours but still have fun!

was playing a translated version of this back at the start of last year.. its really nothing special at all..

Almost a year ago? Did you played an English-patched Koren version or did you play on the private server? The latter already was really out of date when I tried it over a year ago. It's not a good impression of the live game.

It has nothing to do with that. If a foreign development company wants to translate their game for the Western market they will, and not at a snail's pace, as proven by Aura Kingdom, which was literally announced in Taiwan, June of 2013, came out pretty fast after that in Taiwan and then Aeria Games announced they were publishing the game in the NA, and it was literally out in the NA in December of 2013.

So, if a company actually wants an MMO released in the NA, they will get it done, and fast, as proven by Aura Kingdom. I think what the problem is, is that Asian MMO companies/developers have a fear of trying to get games to the West because to put it simply, it isn't as profitable as releasing it in another Asian country (and now Russia, as MMOs are starting to become a booming market over there).

The last update on NCSoft's B&S page was Dec. 5, 2012. It's been 17 months since they announced they're bringing B&S to NA, and nothing since.

I guess wallpaper and concept art are the only thing NA is getting.

    The marketing is shifting...

KR-JP-TAIWAN-China-Russia-EU-NA releases in the following order.

It use to be KR-JP-NA-EU but it has switch since NA and EU require more work and could possibly be future flops. The games would come out faster only of marketers weren't given the impression that NA and EU are unready without a *modified* aka censored version of the games all the time.

While KR-JP Taiwaan and RU are on long-term lease, NA and EU are pretty much on the -upfront, short-sale- release stage. And when a KR game does end up being released its content is usually stripped out and is turned into a cash-shop sales zone. The longer the release is the longer the momentum is lost.

I was looking forward towards BnS but since the last of updates and timely-communications interest has been lost. I've settled with playing the other official versions instead. At least then I know i'm not playing some watered-down content of a game that's censored up or easy street.
