Yes i intend to buy ESO after particpating in this weekends beta. I thought i would be playing either Templar or Dragon Knight. But to my surprise ive set my eye on the Nightblade "class".

Originally posted by nilden I think your better off not having played Skyrim because from my point of view the only thing ESO does better than Skyrim is having multiplayer.
thought that was the point...did people really expect that lvl of single player game in an mmo? yeah sure...minimum requirements gtx titan...
did you just say that we have to accept mediocre mmos for alot more money than single player higher quality games?..... just no.
That is your opinion. I like ESO 20 times better than Skyrim. Couldnt even finish the main story in Skyrim before i quit because it lost my interest.
Some of your questions cannot be answered wthout breaking the NDA and getting banned. Grats on that.
As to chosing your own path: After playing several classes with rather unusual choices of weapons and weird speccs, i like how the whole class/talents/weapons system works alot and think that it really opens up the longer you play. At first glimpse, it seems to give you an overwhelming freedom in general and it took me a while to get an overview of how it works at all.
But then, with all the freedom to build whatever we like (not going into details due to NDA bs) while we are leveling, we don't know if our artwork will remain viable once we hit PvP and end game. Thanks to Zenimax' policy of not letting anyone know whats beyond lvl 17 (AoC says hi), we don't how endgame looks like or if it may funnel you into respeccing to some cookie cutter, unless you want to be an unwanted outcast with your staff weilding siphon nightblade. Like in Rift, the system may have alot of promise which then won't work out in the long run.
So, if it lets you choose your own path has to be seen - at least when it comes to speccs.
Not read every reply but in answer to your question. Press C to bring up the character sheet. Down at the left is the disguise that you keep putting on. right click on it and unequip as long as you have space in your inventory for it to go, and yes I will be playing this game.
It is a great idea aka UO to pick something up and use it,but that lacks depth. You SHOUlD have a SKILL based system, the more you use something the more you become skilled with it.
Otherwise it looks bad,you can't tell me you might swing a club for 5 months and only have the same skill as just picking up a steel sword.
Also freedom to play is a far stretch from the truth, the game starts you off with a linear quest that EVERYONE will be doing exactly the same.I can't stand that linear design,i hater anything where everyone is doing the same thing, that is a single player design NOT a MMO design.
IMO this game does too many of the ideas i enjoy about a mmorpg wrong, they as i figured are just making another Skyrim with internet access.Sure as the game opens up and we see more information released it might look better, but so far they are doing too many things not the way i like to see it .Oh well i think it will have some mild success but not so sure it will last too long.
I agree with you.
I also miss the lack of communication in most mmos.. Like chat bubble.
We cant talk directly to each other. Only through a message board even when standing next to each other.. So dumb!
Storylines are nice, but to build a game around just stories feels like you have no option in choosing paths.. Having the options of choosing several races and factions doesnt give you the option to choose the one path we all seek.
What happened to the path of your own creation?
All the mmos out there just live on stories and nice graphics plus copy pasting other games.
Absolutely nothing new.
Skyrim was good... For a while then you got sick and tierd of reading and listeing to stupid stories over and over again.
ESO does the same thing with a touch of changed gameplay. But still it surrounds the whole game with one purpose.. Reading and listening to stories.
Its pretty obvious that the mmos are focusing on fast cash using nice graphics and huge stoires that will drag you into paying a fee for it.. A month or two then you get bored of it like all the other storie based mmos..
To bad its not really free to play your way nor does it support exploration like every other ES game to date. Your still restricted to where you can go by your current lvl since it uses a traditional mmo leveling system and on top of that your even denied 2/3 of the world based on what faction you play. In ES games you literally can go wherever you want anytime you want due to the entire world scaling to your lvl. True it's a single player game and you can't really do that in an MMO but there are other successful leveling systems that have been used in other MMOs that accomplish the same thing, just wish ESO woulda used one of those. Add to it the fact you have to go CE or preorder in order to play the race you want without being faction locked and thats just to much restriction for me. The game itself was kind of fun and interesting but I just cant get past the fact that all of my friends and I are essentially restricted to 3 races if we want to play together at all and I'm out : I had fun with Skyrim for a little while my only beef with it was it was far to easy but I still love and play both Oblivion and Morrowind every once in awhile hehe.
To everyone that play it i have a question about the freedom of choice in the path you can have, basically will i ever have a chance of choosing different skill lines or am i stuck with what the class offers?
For example can i choose the ardent flame line from the dragonknight and the summoning line from the sorceror?
For example can i choose the ardent flame line from the dragonknight and the summoning line from the sorceror?
Afaik: No.
There are skill lines you can add to your character by joining a guild (Mages, Fighters - not player-created), but skill lines of other classes are barred to you.
That said: This one played Skyrim this weekend. This one hopes he did not break any NDAs (that were removed for press, but not for players - this one wonders why?), but all in all, the situation feels very much like before the start of TOR.
What kind of gaming journalist has never played Elder Scrolls?
Even if it's not an MMO.....Top 3 game of all time.....and NEVER PLAYED IT??????
Amazing............just amazing
Huh ? I reread her article after reading this post. No where does Suzie say that she did not play any Elder Scrolls game. She said she did not play Skyrim. There were three other games before that in this series that she might have played so let's not jump to conclusions on incomplete information.
In answer to Suzie's questions, I will not be playing ESO, at least not for a long time if ever. I am furious at the dev's saying that they would lock races to factions and then at the last minute opened them up to all races for those who want to spend more money on the game. This is a slippery slope in my opinion to them possibly renegging other aspects of the lore a bit like LotRO did. If you start screwing up your lore to fit a few "needs" where do you start drawing the line before it begins to get ridiculous? Why bother having a deeply developed lore if you are just going to break it right off the bat?

You're correct MurlockDance: I played Morrowind and enjoyed it immensely.
Just because a title ranks in the top games of all time does not mean that everyone who plays games has played it. Also, I never said I hadn't seen Skyrim or hadn't watched enough gameplay to make an informed decision about whether or not it was something I wanted to try out. Having watched my best friend play, it did not capture my attention enough to spend the money to buy or play Skyrim.
Even so saying these things, simply having not played Skyrim does not negate my opinion on ESO. There will be thousands like me who have not played Skyrim (or maybe not even any other ES game) who will take on ESO.

There are many aspects of the game that I like, but I just cannot get past the combat. Yes, I'm a fan of auto attack and hotbars of abilities and slower paced combat that lets you utilize those abilities more thoughtfully and without developing carpal tunnel syndrome. It feels like the genre is trying to merge with MOBAs and I find this trend alarming.
The first thing I took away from the game was that death would be completely meaningless. I guess you get that impression because you start off dead. The second issue is that you know everyone is else is doing the same thing as you are. For me, this breaks the immersion completely. The game looks good and the combat seems fun as well but I don't think the standard MMO 'story lines' and mechanics do the series justice. The game seems way too expensive for what you get which is a watered down Skyrim experience.
"I have to admit a dirty little secret: I have never played even a minute of Skyrim."
Nice. I wish there were more previewers writing their honest impressions who also hadn't played. I've seen many previews from many different sites such as PC Gamer, Gamespot, etc. who can't seem to mention anything about this MMO without the Skyrim comparison. As a matter of fact, those first impressions are often nothing but Skyrim comparisons.
Perhaps it's Zenimax' own fault for promoting the MMO often using that comparison themselves- presumably to attract the non MMO playing Skyrim players... whoever both of them may be
There is a lot of MMO here and many things to be happy about... And you nailed the most important one: immersion. This is a world to get lost in with friends and strangers. Isn't that why we started playing this genre to begin with?
Edited because I forgot the game was still under NDA... These articles are killing me.
Non-cartoon look is a big part of the draw to this game for me. EQN, Wildstar and the countless other cartoony games do not interest me in the slightest. Even GW2 is too cartoony for my taste.
Its true, if you have NOT played Skyrim or any other TES game for that matter, TESO will seem so much better.
If you have played TES games before, or TSW, you know you CANT play your way or choose your own path. That is just lip service to make the game sound more appealing to TES players.
You are still locked into your class. You still cant cast every spell in the game, you still cant use every melee skill in the game. Its BS. The game is trying too hard to be everything for everyone instead of just focusing on either MMO players or TES players and se we end up getting lied to again as meanings are twisted to make a game look like something it isn't.
What ever happened to a product that stands on its own, for what it actually is?
Yes you are locked into the race/class you choose but you can still use any armor and weapon in the game. That opens up a lot of customization. You aren't restricted to heavy armor as a Dragonknight or light armor as a Sorcerer. You could be a heavy armor wearing, two-handed axe wielding Sorcerer if you wanted to!
"But to be able to be a Breton Nightblade with heavy armor and a two handed broadsword? I think I've died and gone to heaven. Not only can she skulk around the edges of the battlefield and jet in at light speed, she can also clock the enemy pretty hard once she's there thanks to her two-handed sword skill and stay safe and snug inside that heavy armor..."
Mega-sigh. I was afraid they would allow crap like this in their game physics.
