10 Reasons not to play FFXI
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10. Waiting.
Anything you do you have to wait. If I'm going to do a quest I have to wait 4 hours for a boss monster to spawn. If I attack a prime like Shiva and I die. I have to wait one real life day till I can attack it again. If I want to take an airship I have to wait 11 minutes for it to come. If I want to get some exp I have to wait and form a party then we could have 5 people waiting to party but then we need a 6th person but we can never find one.
9. Pvp
Worst pvp I have ever seen. The pvp is city verse city team style. So lets say 12 Bastok people show up and 18 Sandorians show up. Itll be 12 verses 18. So no matter what you do youll lose. Their is no FFA pvp its all team based. I could be owning some Taru then 3 of his buddies will come up from behind and kill me. Theirs no point in doing pvp. If you win you get a small amount of Gil. Blms own pvp, since everyone is close too each other. Only thing a blm has to do is cast sleepga and enfeeble his enemies then pick them off one by one.
8. Exp and death penalty
Only class that can solo in ff is the beast master. So any other class needs a party to get exp. After level 60 it takes about 3 hours to get a party, for others its 7 or 8 hours. Once you start the party what usually happens is someone has to go or someone gets agro from a monster and dies or your party members suck. Then if you die and usually when you die their isnt a priest with raise 2 around, so when you respawn you lose 3k exp. 3k exp takes about one hour and 30 minutes to get, since most parties suck.
7. Genkai
Genkai is a like a limit break that lets you level higher. Like the level cap with out genkai is level 50. To get 55 you have to do genkai 1 witch is hard for most people. Thats why most people quit ff at level 50. I have met so many people who have quit ff just because of that. Its some stupid square scheme of making you go to high level areas and hunt for some rare rare rare item that takes for ever to get and is almost impossible to do with level 50's. Its completely pointless and stupid its just another thing that makes you play long so they can collect their monthly fees. You have to do this stupid quest every 5 levels after 50.
6. Crafting
God where do I begin. First of all you lose so much money crafting because of the ****d up econ (ill get to that later). Then once you get the items to make the item you want to make. You have to wait till its the day in the game day that coincides with the crystal that makes the item. So if I make an item with a fire crystal on waters day ill probably fail. Failing god do I hate failing, back in the day I thought it was ok, but once you get 100k items to make some big thing and you fail and lose the items you hate it. Leveling up crafting is retarded; you have to buy all the materials then sit there making the same item over and over again. You can be a level 90 crafter and still lose money; in any other game you would be loaded.
5. Magic scrolls
You have to buy magic to be able to use. When your level 20 you barely have any money as a blm and the sad part is most of the scrolls you need are 20k plus. Then when you hit 50 ancient magic is like 100k plus a scroll. That you barely use, but you need em because people always ask you to use em. They should have made it so you learn skills not having to buy them as a mage.
4. AF
The worst idea I have ever seen in a mmorpg, wait actually one of the worst ideas. AF is this armor that makes you look like your job in classic ff job specific armor. Like my blm looks like a traditional blm with it on. Well to get any of it done you need 18 people you need to go to some smacked up area with mobs who are level 70 plus and shit. Sit there for 5 hours killing mobs till it drops the key, and then find the box witch takes another 4 hours. Then you have to fight notorious monsters that usually kill 6 people who are in your alliance. Then the af doesnt even give you good stats thats the worst, like my body af gives me vit plus 1 when Im a god damn blm.
3. Crabs
Crabs crabs crabs crabs. You kill the same monster for the whole entire game practically. I killed crabs in south gustaberg, crabs in vulkurm dunes, crabs in quifim, crabs in kuftal tunnel, and crabs in the boyhoda tree. Constantly crabs at least they could change the color or something but no same model but with a different name.
2. Shitty point less jobs that can be replaced by other jobs and race specific stats.
Ok first of all here are the crappy jobs in ff11 Dragoon, summoner and ninja. Why? You ask heres why. Ninja is a poor mans paladin, ninja cant hold agro and if he gets hit 2 or 3 times hes ****d. Ok he has his powders but once they run out hes screwed. If I cast stone 1 I get agro with a ninja, agro is when the monster comes to you and attacks you. Dragoon he does shitty damage and is out classed by all damage dealers. Summoner is just a whm basically, you get him in your party for heals. His summons are worthless. Are you kidding me jwbxx summoners did so much damage in all the other ff's. Nope sorry my blm can out damage a summoner any day. I have seen all the summons die to crabs and other crappy shit. Race specific stats omg so pointless. See in any other game if I sucked at hp but had tons of int it would affect me. Because I could own in damage but once I get hit Im ****d. Not in ff11 since everything so party related the party makes up for your weakness. So their is no point in being a Hume since every other race can do your job better. Like Im a blm Hume but a Taru blm has 200 more mp and like 20 more int. He has shit hp, but since you never solo in ff the party can protect him. So thats how Humes ability to be good in everything and not suck in anything is negated.
1. Auction house system omg worst idea.
This is how the ah system works. You put something up for sale a bidding price, if someone matches it or exceed it you get the Gil for the item. Sounds good right? Nope. Some dick see's that I put up 5 dark steel swords for 35k each, but since he has no patience he decides to sell his for 34k. Next guy sees that and sells his for 33k, and lower and lower the price goes. So then that hurts the crafters. It ends up that the materials are worth more then the final product. Thats why the ah system sucks.
Comments
wtf? that's the EXACT opposite of what is happening
many of the points you make are actually good things depending on how you look at it
may i recommend WoW?
pretty much all the things that made me quit as well... except the AH complaints...
I was one of the impatient Auction house sellers who sold everything real cheap to get rid of it fast
but hey... with only auction 7 slots and a ton of crap to sell... and almost no inventory/mog house room I didn't really have much choice.

I'm gonna start by saying just one thing: I find this thread pointless in the fact that a. it is in the FFXI forum where ppl r supposed to discuss the game and not flame it and b. like I said 100 times if u don't like it don't play it but don't advertise against it either.
10. U have so many things u can do while waiting. U r probably the type of person who just wants to grind and that's it.
9. Never played it but I can't say it is THE worst idea for PvP. And from what I've heard from high lvl friends it isn't as simple as u make it sound.
8. EXP penalties make death meaningful in the game. If u simply die, respawn where u died and just carry on without anything bad happening to u then what is the point?
7. Agreed that it is a little stupid.
6. Nope I haven't encountered such probs with crafting. Yeah it does cost money but it is part of the economy and the fact that ppl who think like u prefer to get their items the easy way have caused the inflation. Go farm ur items. Ask help from ur linkshell.
5. Most low lvl scrolls r bought from NPCs and don't cost that much. By the time u reach a certain lvl u have enough money for any spell. And,no,I don't think that my char can learn a spell from thin air once he/she lvls.
4. R u sure u r talking about AF? Sounds more like Dynamis. I recently got my AF1 for MNK and I only needed a high lvl WHM and MNK with me to kill the mob. Didn't take me more than an hour.
3. I believe u were following a wrong pattern my friend. The only time I personally killed crabs was in the dunes and a bit in qufim and I haven't had lvling probs either.
2. True NIN can't hold hate very well but with Utsusemi they take no dmg at all if the pt knows what they r doing. SMN does ALOT more than just heal my friend. All avatars have abilities that buff, attack, weapon skill etc etc. U can even skillchain with an avatar for crying out loud! Fenrir has this ability that raises ALL stats for all pt members for a decent amount of time. And excuse me but DRG does very decent dmg especially with weapon skills. And wyvern does extra dmg which raises the DRG's overall contribution.
1. U probably haven't been using the AH properly.
It seems to me u either haven't followed the proper channels while playing the game or u may have not played it at all to begin with. I find this game challenging and therefore lots of fun. If u don't like it and prefer to play a game that hands out everything to u without much effort then ok go play WoW or something like that. Just because a game requires some effort from a player in order to move on doesn't mean that it is bad. Just pick any damn game that u like, play it,have fun and let us who have fun with this one continue having fun. Period
Welcome to mmorpgs.
I played this game for 1 day but am coming back, so I am in no way trying to sound like I know about this game. There are a few things I have to point out though.

don't like feeling outnumbered and ganked why would you complain about lack of FFA PVP?

plus 1 VIT for blm? Isn't this how it is supposed to be? I don't understand.
2. Shitty point less jobs that can be replaced by other jobs and race specific stats.
ninja can’t hold agro and if he gets hit 2 or 3 times he’s ****d.
Which would you prefer? That he CAN hold aggro and dies in 2 or 3 hits or that he doesn't die in 2 or 3 hits but CAN'T hold aggro?
OP: Nope sorry my blm can out damage a summoner any day.
Pretty sure it's supposed to be that way.
OP: I have seen all the summons die to crabs and other crappy shit.
well that just sounds bad. That's unfortunate I guess; if they are both very weak dmg and very low tanking ability.
OP: Race specific stats omg so pointless. See in any other game if I sucked at hp but had tons of int it would affect me. Because I could own in damage but once I get hit I’m ****d. Wouldn't the Hume still have advantages with subjobs, being more versatile and able to play different roles this way?
Top10 worst issues: For the auction house statement I disagree, PvP I never bothered with becuase "more people on one side = win".
Summary for those that dont want to read all 10 issues: Massive timesinks in every shape possible.
(Although the fishing-bots where not mentioned in the top 10, I liked the fishing bot that was stationed 24/7 outside of one town for three months(!). Not a joke, it stood there ALWAYS with a fishing rod.)
ill sum everything up(yes i have played FFXI)
FFXI SUCKS PLAY WoW
well these issues made me not wanna play this game
fdsfsdfdsf
I can post a pretty nifty "20 reasons y not to play WoW" thread on the WoW forums. But then again I don't want to look as childish as u guyz. Too bad...
EDIT: Plus,if all u can say is "FFXI sucks" without giving a reason then yet again there is no point in me doing it right?
i don't see how the OP was really flaming, imo he made some what biased summary of the least appealing parts of the game. it is entertaining watch all the fanboys flame him though.

Personally,I didn't c it as flaming either. Hence I replied in a civilized manner. But this thread started becoming a flaming-fest from ppl who don't like FFXI. I don't have a prob with discussing the games weak points (which every game has) but if other-game-fans start seeing such discussions as an opportunity to just cuss out a game then that makes the thread a flaming area.
He may have been whining but he didnt lie on any of his points (though I thought the AH thing was a bit rediculous... especially since AH's make selling things ALOT easier)
Seriously though, the PVP is almsot non-existant. It's terrible. So are you getting better gear to help you fight more monsters??
To me,that is the biggest issue in FFXI. I am MNK43/WAR21 and I can't get the gear I need in anyway possible. I need a Jujitsu Gi and it costs 3.1mil to get it from the AH and when we tried to camp the NM that drops it with a high lvl friend, the whole place was flooded in gil-sellers doing the same thing. SE really needs to do something about those ppl because they r taking away alot of things.
You've Been Hacked?
A lot of these problems can be solved when you get to the end game content. FFXI really doesn't begin until you reach level 75 in at least one job.
As for waiting, there's still some of that, but not as much. Sure, there are some NMs that you have to sit and wait for them to spawn, but for many of them you'll know the exact time frame that they will spawn in. (Most HNMs spawn 21-24 hours after their death, so a 3 hour window each day.) Waiting is just something you learn to live with, you just need patience. Although, not all NMs pop this way. Some of the NMs you'll fight require items to pop, so you don't have to just sit around for hours doing those. As for leveling, it can take time to get a party, but as for me, I haven't had the time to look for a party after getting level 75. At 75 you can get merit points, to further improve your character. Instead of partying the traditional way, I usually just get exp as a by-product of many events.
The PVP is more of a minigame rather than a normal PVP fight. It's fun to do, and I like it, but I would also like a regular PVP game. And the teams aren't uneven. It is two nations against one another, but entry into a team will not be permitted if there are too many members. And if you belong to the third nation that is not participating, they'll still let you join the side with the least amount of players. The teams could be San d'Oria vs. Bastok, but the San d'Oria side could have members from each of the three nations, and the same with the Bastok side.
Losing exp isn't fun, but dying isn't meant to be fun. There has to be a penalty for dying, otherwise it would just be meaningless. If you have trouble finding a party then make your own. Jobs other than beastmaster can also solo, just not for a substantial amount of exp. The game was made for people to party, not to solo.
Genkai really isn't much of a problem. It can be annoying, but it's not hard. The quests might take some time, but they're not impossible to do.
Crafting does cost a lot to level, but it does pay off. Some normal synths can make you a marginal profit, and high quality synths can make you a lot of money. Having a high level craft can be used to help out others a lot, and it's useful to have.
I don't see a problem with buying magic scrolls... Some might be expensive, but that's just because it's a better spell or harder to get.
The AF is great. Not every piece is completely useful, but a couple pieces out of the sets are good.
You don't only have to fight crabs. Yes, they are one of the most common things to kill, but that's because they're generally easy to kill. At later levels there's a more diverse selection of things to fight, and different places where you can go.
Each job has its own use. Dragoon is made fun of quite often, and it does have its faults, but it's not worthless. Dragoon/White Mage makes a nice combo for soloing at later levels. Ninja makes a great tank. If you have a ninja that can't hold hate, that doesn't mean that all ninjas can't hold hate. Paladins can hold hate better than a ninja can, but they also take more damage than a ninja would. As for summoner, most people just use them as fake white mages. That's not their only purpose though. Their avatars have useful buffs such as aoe stoneskin and blink, and their level 70 bloodpacts can do great damage. The racial stats don't make much of a difference either. Skill is most important, then gear, then race.
Auction House just has a different system than normal. Since it lists all the previous sales of all the items, you can get a general idea of how much the item is worth. People can overprice and underprice certain items, but that's always going to happen.
This entire thread is pointless. Don't like the game, find another and play it. Leave the people who want to come to these boards for useful information be. I do not play the game anymore, you don't see me listing every single reason why. I come here looking for updated info on patches/updates/etc... Besides, half of what you wrote is nonsense. You sound like someone who has never played the game and just paraphrase what you see in other people's complaint posts.
You get a 3/10, subpar trolling. Try again.
-Kash-
All the reasons you mentioned that are reasons not to play FFXI are not very good. Some have merit, yes. Honestly, there is a reason to not play any MMORPG if you look hard enough.
I achieved Lv75 BRD, RDM. Lv37 WHM, BLM, NIN. Lv56 BST, and countless others to Lv10-20.
Why did I walk away? The game is ruined. The combination of greedy players and relentless gilfarmers coupled with the crap oversight SE has given to the game has made it a home for morons.
That is the only true reason to not play FFXI. Otherwise it was a perfect game. Was.
I agree! Basically not only do gil-sellers force the inflation upon the game, they also log on just to camp a certain NM to get expensive items; thus the NM is overcamped and impossible for regular players to claim the mob. Generally I think the problem lies within the community because ppl just keep wanting more and the easy way. I believe the problem would be solved if more LSs came out with the ideal to avoid buying things off the auction and crafting or camping for them. This would "train" their members to stay away from gil-buying and enjoy the game the way it was meant to be enjoyed.
If FFXI was played by 100% legit players (as it was 2 years ago), it would be the greatest MMORPG ever. It was... but now it's just a shadow of it's former self.
FFXI will always have a warm spot in my heart, but I will never play it again.
Thats the one thing really good about and open PVP mmorpg. If FFXI was open pvp, you and your friends could kill the gilfarmers until they left. Im sure it would be open season on them.
But In non open pvp games like FFXI, you cant do nothing about it.
so Ninja is a crap job huh lol. let me break it down to you
ninja > all
you go tell a ninja who solos serket he sucks... you go tell him that. the top and only reason not to play ffxi?
1) prices are insane. even i a lvl75 cant lvl another class because i flat out cant afford it. why cant i afford? because of all the gil famers who have ruined Zi'Tah3
oh yeah
FFXI > WoW
and why? because everything you do in FFXI has an effect on the world. nothing you do in World of What? matters... NOTHING.
