I didn't enjoy wildstar at all and the reason it's getting little press is 1. it has no release date and 2. the majority of people don't really care about it.
The best way to show that it's really the time - drop the NDA.
Once Wildstar does that, then there's some hope - as long as NDA is up, gamers should be very suspicious of any game still under NDA.
I don't agree with this at all. Wildstar has been as forthcoming as nearly any game we've seen in recent years, even under an NDA. You RARELY see a dev communicate with the player base as well as pour out information, demonstrations, live streams, how-to videos, etc. with the regularity that Carbine has done with Wildstar. Add to the fact that it's so easy to get into Wildstar's beta, and I don't buy for one second your insinuation that they have anything to hide.
I've played the game. I can say this without question: It's in a showable state. The only question marks left at this point is the endgame content, which we haven't seen yet. If they nail that, they are going to have a hit on their hands.
Sorry that doesn't fit into your "If there's an NDA the game must be sub-par" narrative.
I am guessing you played only the weekend Stress test based on your comment about elder games.
As for a hit on their hands, i am really not sure. It's gonna have a great endgame that's for sure. But it's still WoW style and i am not sure people want that.
No, I've been in much longer than that. I just had to stop myself from playing because it's a game I am going to sub to. Don't want to be too far into the game and have to start over again.
Wasn't aware that endgame was there for people to experience. I stopped myself from playing when the cap was still level 34. Even better news if it's as good as you suggest.
And there are plenty of people that prefer the WoW style of game, particularly if it hearkens back to Vanilla.

I find this incorrect. Has been getting a decent amount of press. ESO is only getting more because they are being secretive with info, and close to release date. One thing I can say about ESO, is I wish I had my 20+ hours back. Even that much was such a chore. Was so boring.
Anything Wildstar has to offer I find MUCH more interesting, and more well done.
Wildstar is going to be a great game. I plan on playing it. But don't get too sold on what the media is saying about The Elder Scrolls.
TESO's problem is not that it is a bad game. Its problem is that it is competing directly against its own IP. When these gamer sites review the game, they are comparing it directly to the single player franchise. And, the fact is, there are many things in the single player series that simply aren't possible in an MMO. But that doesn't make it a bad game, or even a mediocre game. Judged as the next game in the Elder Scrolls series, it falls short. Judged on its own as an MMO against the other MMOs currently on the market, it holds its own very well.
Well I finally really agree with you on something! Good job RS99.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
TESO was the biggest New Threat to Wildstar's Release. TESO is getting totally slammed by all the media for its problems.
I think now is the perfect time for NCSoft to announce a Release Date and start taking Pre-Orders for Wildstar. The people who are disappointed with TESO are hungry for a new game right now and I am sure most of them would be willing to Pre-Order Wildstar right now if it was available directly from NCSoft.
Well to be honest I've heard a lot of negative aspects about Wildstar. Namely it isn't very polished and the combat is atrocious with the laser like, seizure inducing tells being so prevalent. On top of this WS has no IP background to speak of and the graphics look horrible.
Personally I don't see either doing the genre justice. I'll be holding out hope for Repopulation, Destiny and the Division.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

Yeyeye... bla bla bla... just like we need another cartoony WoW clone, like there is not enough already out there.
Many of you people are narrowminded, thinking that there are only 2 MMO's to choose from this year (ESO, Wildstar), and you are completely ignoring the Asian marked and the promising Indie titles. There are much better quality games coming out than these two, you just need to look around and not follow the brainwashing marketing of the western companies.

Wildstar and all the other WoW clones suffer from the same issue. Why divest yourself of close to 10 years of experience and progression to play a carbon copy of something that isn't as good and polished? It isn't human nature to give up all they've gained while playing WoW to start fresh in pretty much the same game. Some will, but many will not else we'd had run away hit after run away hit post WoW boom. But seeing as almost every single WoW clone failed, so will Wildstar.

Agreed on Indie but Asian games will never garner mass appeal and will always play 2nd fiddle to Western games. Now if for some reason there would be an Asian MMO with a Western Fantasy theme then maybe but I'd never expect it to be 100% Western style. Asians love their flash, pizzazz and shiny colors.

First of all: It's not the same game. Period. Not sure how this point keeps getting missed. It's a themepark design, it's got cartoony graphics, and it's got vertical progression. Beyond that, there are more differences than similarities. So please, stop spouting the same tired arguments you use every time a new themepark comes out. It doesn't apply here.
WoW is a great game. But it's fundamentally different at its core than it was at launch. In fact, it's fundamentally different than it was even three years ago. It's been streamlined to such an extent that it hardly recognizable as the game it once was. I hate using the term, "Dumbed down," but well...there it is.
Wildstar is bringing back WoW BEFORE all the streamlining. They are bringing back the game when it was at its best: Great world design, challenging open world PvE content (quests that actually require groups and raids to complete), big, difficult 40 man raids that make you feel like you actually accomplished something when you down a boss, world bosses, utilizing the Trinity, CC as a viable addition to combat roles, UI add-ons, etc. And then, they are adding in some features WoW has never had:
1. An extensive player housing system.
2 .Paths, which allow you to customize your content while being social enough for paths to merge in the open world so all players benefit from a path YOU choose.
3. Warplots: Think of it as player housing for PvP purposes.
4. Action-based combat design.
5. The ability to customize EVERYTHING in the game, from your clothing, to your mount, to your UI, to your entire leveling experience.
6. Much more in-depth crafting system, complete with a mini-game of sorts, and progression through actual crafting achievements rather than skill points. And a gathering system that can result in combat or a discovery of an entirely new area.
7. The ability for classes to adjust their "spec" on the fly and in any number of ways with the Limited Action system.
That's not to mention all of the "WoW" features that Carbine has tweaked to make better, including world design and mob AI. Anyone saying this is strictly a "WoW clone" hasn't been paying any attention to the actual info that is out regarding this game.
Look, WoW is going to have its large contingent of fans that will say, "I'm not leaving WoW because I've got too much invested in this game." That's only natural. But those same people also wouldn't leave WoW for EQN, either. Or any game, no matter how different it is from WoW. But there are a lot of themeparkers out there who have already left WoW and are hopping around from game to game hoping something resonates with them and makes them stick. Those are the folks that will like Wildstar.

IMHO both games will do well in the beginning, lose most of their players, and become niche games like every other title that has released, and will release. Also, you may be surprised about ESO doing a bit better in the long run than Wildstar because of the huge fanbase the ES franchse has. Wildstar won't fair as well because it's a new title. These are of course my opinions.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
I don't see how WildStar or Eso stand a chance at keeping subscribers, they are just more of the same stuff we already got and not any better than the old stuff. The next big thing is going to be something that changes the genre, not something that milks it by putting out the same game we've been playing for 10+ years.

Be honest. You didn't read any of this thread, did you? Neither Wildstar or ESO are "the same stuff." Both are strong games that offer a different experience than other games. ESO is giving you a chance to play a character in what looks to be a very fleshed out, very well-done MMO version of Tamriel, with a nice amount of actual meaningful PvP. Wildstar? Read just a few posts above you. I'm not going ot re-type all that shit.

No I read it, I just think it is a bunch of nonsense. ESO plays exactly like every other MMORPG I've played in the past 10 years. Wildstar looks exactly the same too. This is like trying to say that Rift is different because it has rifts. Taking the same basic model and tweaking a couple things is not new.

I have played a lot of mmorpgs, and ESO is probably the furthest I have played from WoW as far as the UI, Character Progression, and character control is concerned. You may be right about the questing, but that is just the way of the beast I'm afraid. If you play any kind of rpg there are quests, and thats what you do.
edit: The Secret World character progression is pretty different too! (just had to throw that in.)
I'm not sure how this subject got so far off the track!, but either way I am looking forward to playing both ESO and Wildstar because they will give me a needed warm fuzzy!
Look at Gloria Victus for something that may be a tad different.

Im sorry but ESO does not play like every other mmorpg. Its still an mmorpg, so it shares significant similarities with other games in the genre (obviously), but it stands on its own. WildStar will do the same. Obviously WildStar has plenty of similarities to other games, especially WoW, but it has other things that are just not available any more (like 40 man raiding). If youre somehow expecting something totally different from these games, then may I suggest Solitaire or Quake or Madden 2014 Football? Otherwise if youre sticking to the mmorpg genre then youre going to get mmorpgs....
