Why doesn't Bill Gates fund a REVOLUTIONARY MMORPG?
Surely he has the cash and resources to back it. He might be able to corner the market. Hey Bill, if you are reading this I suggest you head on over to the developers corner and harvest some of the fertile minds there to create something truly extraordinary in the market and then TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!!
MU WHA HA HA HA HA HA HA
Seriously folks, there are some good ideas over there, although I am far too modest to mention that some of them are mine.

No Userbar here, sorry to disappoint.
Funding and making inhouse are totally different
They had 2 in development that were given the axe because they felt that the market conditions were wrong. Of course this was before WoW launched where they suddenly saw the light. Much of the Mythica team went to SOEs new Seattle studio.
Also remember that MS did the hosting/billing for Turbine's AC and AC2. Of course AC2 was a flop and MS eventually sold back the 2 licenses to Turbine.
Ensemble studios of Dallas (makers of age of empires) was bought by microsoft a while back. Recently Ensemble has been advertising positions on their jobs page for MMO related work. http://www.ensemblestudios.com/jobs.htm
Now that WoW has shown them the way they are going back into the MMO business.

[EDIT]
BTW, nothing revolutionary comes out of Redmond anymore. I expect the game fro Ensemble to be just like WoW, but with "Microsoft" plastered all over the box.

As for writing their own? That'll NEVER happen. Microsoft never writes their own software other than the OS (and even alot of that is purchased). They buy someone else's product, stick their name on it, and market it.
