MMO Stories?

I'm looking for MMO stories similar to Fansy the Famous Bard, the stuff the Reddit user Tevoul posted or stuff like UO Thief.

Real, good stories that give you a snapshot of how the game played back in the day, with hilarity included. Bonus points for exploits and that shenanigans. Feel free to share your own stories, too. :D

Help me, MMORPG, you're my only hope.

    Here, I'll give you one.

I used to play Everquest with a group of my friends.  Among those friends was this one guy who historically had problems getting a date.  We'd all hang out in a group, me and my wife, my other buddy and his wife, and this one guy.  Then, all of a sudden, one day this guy stops hanging out with us.  We all played at different houses and so it wasn't like we could just look over on the screen and see where he was, and in those days, much like today, if you turned your online setting to "anonymous" the game would not let other players know where you were in the world.  And so dude completely disappeared for all intents and purposes.

We'd call him on the phone to ask him what he was up to.  Of course, we had things to do, gnolls to kill, dungeons to explore, etc... but he'd always respond with something like "Oh, I'm not even doing anything, I'm just sitting in the game AFK" and so we'd let him be.

One day though, I decided to go and find him and find out what he was doing.  I played an enchanter and so it was easy enough to be invisible and stealth levitate behind him as he made his way into the Frontier Mountains and down into one of the ruins that was populated with enough mobs to support some good campage.  We were all on the Rallos Zek server at the time, which was a PVP server, and so it wasn't strange at all to find someplace off in the middle of nowhere levelling.  Honestly, it was the best way to get things done as grinding out levels in highly populated areas was a sure fire way to get yourself ganked and your stuff taken.  And that was no fun.  So there I found him with a blond female character of not unattractive build camping mobs and killing them on the steady.

I watched this go on for a bit before sending him a tell.  "Dude, what are you up to?"  His response.  "Nothing much, bored.  Just sitting here in......" there was a pause.  My friends and I laughed hilariously because we all knew that at that moment he had done a /who all Jesad and figured out that I was in the same zone as he was.  I waited for his response.

"Just chiling in the Frontier Mountains, what are you doing?" he asked.  I sprung my trap.  "Toss me an invite!" I said.  There was a good pause and I literally watched him as he and his partner suddenly stopped killing and just stood there for a minute as though a conversation of some sort had started.  Suddenly an invite came.

I grouped up with the two of them, I forget her name, and we went back to what they were doing which was camping and killing mobs.  While we fought I, of course, chatted up the girl to see what the deal between her and my buddy was.  She explained to me that they had been hanging out for days and that he had been helping her level.  We talked a little more and I couldn't help but notice how good a fighter she was and that she was NOT playing a healer.

Back in those days it was rare to find a girl that was willing to stand on the front lines in a game like that.

So I immediately went with my instinct and sent my buddy a tell.  "Dude, that's a dude."  "No it isn't" he responded.  Then he responded "You think so?"  I responded, "I know it dude, look at the way she fights.  She fights better than you do.  That's testosterone dude.  Plus, no joking around, no kidding, no antics?  Dude, its a dude."  "Well, I don't think so" he says, and we go on fighting.

So now that the cat is out of the bag he invites this girl to come hang out with the rest of us.  I don't want to hurt his feelings so I keep my suspicions to myself.  It was actually my friends wife who was the next to notice that there was something peculiar about this woman and who asked me if I thought that it really was a female.  I told her no but that I'd been willing to go along with it if it made my boy happy.

We carried on this charade for a couple of weeks until finally we were all going up against some extra hard mob down there that dropped something that we wanted and we had a bad pull, partially because my buddy, the ranger, had stolen aggro from his girl somewhere in the middle of the fight.  She yelled at him.  Hard.

Now I think that I started this whole thing out by explaining that this guy didn't have a lot of luck with the females as it was.  So now, having to stand there and watch him be made to feel bad by a chick that I didn't even think was a chick, I decided that it was time to end the little masquerade.

I didn't do it right away, I waited until the fireworks were pretty much over and we had smoothed things out to be able to get back to grinding.  Then I asked.  "Dude, are you a dude?"  He pretty much responded without hesitation, "Yup".  My buddy was at my house at the time and so I got the first hand pleasure of seeing his expression go solid steel as he struggled not to react to it.  I sent my other buddy a tell.

"Haha" I said.  "Did you know that this whole time Larkin (not my buddies real name) thought that you were a girl?" I said.  "Nope, I'm a guy" he responded.  Then my buddy chimed in, which was unexpected.  "Why didn't you tell me?" he asked.  "You never asked" the guy said.

Two second later I dropped the guy from group and me and my other buddy, my killer buddy, killed him on the spot and took his shit.

Might not sound so nice right now, but back then it was hilarious.

He cussed us out, we put him on ignore, then my killer buddy took him off of ignore and had him meet us somewhere so that we could give him his stuff back and we killed him again and took more of his shit.

The lesson here being.  There are some delicate souls playing some of these games and it is not cool to mess with their heads no matter how "enlightened" you think you are.

This has been a true story. The names have been changed to protect the innocent.

From that day forward my friend has never allowed himself to become mentally involved with a female avatar in an MMORPG, and so he never should have in the first place.  It was a hard lesson to teach.  One I am sure that many reading this have learned in a similar fashion.  But this is MAKE BELIEVE.  This is NOT REAL.  And you shouldn't be all up in these games trying to do REAL LIFE SHIT.

At least not without pics and voice chat.

This has been Jesad's True MMO Stories.  I hope you have enjoyed it.
