The latest stretch goals for Star Citizen have been posted as fundraising has surpassed the thirty-eight million dollar mark. Goals include the Cano System, a single inhabited planet similar to Earth among three others. In addition, Chris Roberts announced that a poll to select the final star system was too close to call and, as a result, both systems will be included in the game.
Cano System is home to a G-Type Main Sequence Star that’s almost identical to Earth’s. Of the four planets in the system, only one is inhabited: Carteyna. Located on the edge of habitable zone, Carteyna is a classic waterworld. Fortunately, its planetary axis constantly keeps the northern hemisphere away from the sun, which allowed for the water to freeze into the landmasses used as the initial landing zones in 2587. Multiple attempts have been made to try to convert the thick atmosphere into something breathable, but the process never seemed to stick. In fact, over the years, every time there’s a new technological development in geo-engineering, they test it out here on Carteyna only to yield the same result.

Yeah, i know all that, im from that Generation as well. But....all we seen is the Hangar atm, Playable Demo is delayed for the good (i think) and so forth. But 38 Millions.....looking at the other Kickstarter Campains.....then this is....not to understand. Let's just hope the the "Power" will deliver.

They showed a demo of their combat and constantly answer questions and update things. Seriously the people at this site act like they know everything when they know jack ****. The reason people give them so much money is because they are the first company to really talk to their fans, I noticed that soe and other companies seem to be picking up on this and some are starting to trend that way too. Some have not of course and are still doing the old keep everyone in the dark about their game until release time thing.

It is not an MMO in the normal sense. I think most are focused on it as an MMORPG which it is in no way an RPG. A persistent universe yes, progression through ship gear and upgrades yes. Character progression is a no, it is all going to be based on your piloting and aiming skills. Want to be a trader? Just jump in a ship that has a cargohold and do it, no training required. After your trade run you can jump in a combat ship I guess it really depends on your personal definition on what an MMO is.
Basically if you played Privateer, this will be an advanced version of that with the ability to play on a unified multi-player server with instances. He doesn't have to be an expert, he just has to make sure he has staff that has experience and a great netcode team. The fact they are building a complete custom netcode is a great sign we will have something that works well for how the game is to be played.

Only problem I see, is at this point most of his "investment" has come from the players. Once the game actually launches, won't most of his potential players have already given their money to play?
That's one thing I always wondered with kickstarter games. If I go out and say "who wants to give me 100k to make a game?" everyone who is interested gives me the money and then I give them perks including eventual access. Now, when the game actually launches... what if everyone interested already gave me money? I developed the game, but unless I have leftovers from the investment or a lot of interest beyond the initial investors I have no revenue.
I'm sure some people are interested but not willing to donate up front. But in a case where the game raised 38 million dollars I just have to think that includes the majority of anyone who is ever going to be interested in their game.
I think you have a valid point, although I believe this brings the industry full circle back to how entertainment forms in general were consumed. You have a build up over time of popularity and awareness. There isn't a massive media push to grab as many sales right of the gates at launch. I doubt SC will have to sell a ton of boxes at launch, as development was already paid for. I know people who don't pre-order who are planning to buy after release. I can also tell you that none of my buddies who are console gamers have even heard about this. A couple at work who are console gamers watched some of the Youtube videos of the commercials, hangar module vids etc. and plan on getting a PC going in time for launch and buy the game then. It has, even with it's space sim theme, a wide appeal with the promise of FPS combat and tactical capitol ship combat with a large crew.
Must be tough to turn away golden geese that lay golden eggs.

I'm starting to feel like people are throwing money at this guy for pieces of ideas that aren't actually a part of anything. Even the dog fighting demo they showed is just a mock up of what they "want" to put in the game.
I just don't get this stretch goal stuff. It cost him 5 million dollars to write up some lore?
Yeah, I have seen cool cinematics and cool ship walk arounds, and cool dogfighting demos, but have not seen much of what the actual game will really, truly be like. I get wary--very wary--about getting my hopes up regarding crowd sourced games.
I will probably be one of those guys who actually wait until the game goes on sale and support it after the fact. Like previous posters said, they will need some actual box/digital sales, since they will have already given the majority of their games to the crowd source investors. I will be one of them.
