I also forgot to list, when the kid falls out of bed, when the in laws call, when your team mate has a knock at the door. All the short RL stuff, why keep taking AFK breaks when that 1 team mate can /follow for a few min and deal with it. I get so little time to game I want to get the most out of what I can.

    If you are AFK auto following you aren't really getting anything out of the game. In any case, like I said. It's a luxury that everyone can live without. It simply isn't needed. For me it's not worth adding something like that since it can be abused and used to aggrivate and annoy. 

     

    But I guess we are simply going to differ in opinion on it. You vote yes, I vote no.

    What abuse? You mean botters? They dont use a follow command, they make programing that plays for them. Complex scripting that tells them who to follow and what to assist and kill. Only players use /follow and the games that left out follow as of late has had the worest botting I have ever seen. If you mean for PvP, then dont allow follow in PvP, thats easy code. If its abuse outside of that, of what do you speak?

    Lets see, how can it be abused?

    1) Players dual boxing another character to Power Level them. 

    2) Auto follow can be used in macros to make PvE mindlessly easy, especially when there is real time or more action based combat involved. 

    3) It allows players to dual box and bypass invnetory restrictions. 

    4) Lazy players will use this to travel (While not exactly abuse, it annoys the hell out of me when someone auto follows me which is why I find ways to kill them). 

    5) Yes, a number of ways in PvP but you stated you want it seperated which is not as easy as you think. The coding itself isn't that hard, the testing to make sure it isn't impacting any other systems or code negatively isn't. 

    6) It makes it that much easier for bots and such which you decided to bring up while I wasn't even mentioning them. I was just focusing on players abusing it, but yes you have a good point by bringing up botting. Botting is made easier by mechanics like this. 

     

    If I wasn't pressed for time I'm sure I could list more. You will have to settle with this one off the top of my head for now though.

    WoW had it and its easy code, if they are in your team/raid you can follow them. If you can attack it, you cant /follow. As for lazzy players who randomly follow a stranger thats not abuse thats just dumb and like you, I would leave them in really odd places to teach them a lession, but there is no harm to the game for them doing so. As for dual boxers, that does not work in action combat MMOs like ESO. Healing is not some skill you can keep clicking 1 to heal and win. Ground effects and dodging and blocking are required and this is long past EQ and WoW days. As for botters, they still dont use the follow command. Its programing.

    Re-read what I posted, coding it is fairly easy. Insuring that code isn't affecting other mechanics or lines of code negatively is a bit more difficult. Everything you add can have an unexpected impact on other things in coding which is why so many games are plauged with bugs and such that can take forever and a day to finally fix if you ever do. 

     

    The rest still stands, sorry if you don't like it but those are things possible with auto follow. Sure, healing may not take 1 button to heal (Though usually it does) but there are funny things called macros that allow you to turn multi action activities into a single button use. Don't forget, you don't have to target them because you already are targeting them due to the auto follow lol.

    That wont stop them, look at GW2 that removed the follow command and they still botted more then any MMO I have seen. /follow only helps players who play the game.

      No, in all fairness it helps both.

     But lets ask what is the real reason auto follow is needed? yes its handy to go afk once in awhile to answer phone/door, get food, do a bio break etc.

      However it leads to many abuses.The afk'ers on auto follow soaking up exp in pvp/pve. Goinginto a Fight in PVP/PVE just to find someone in your groups gone AFK on auto follow without saying anything etc.

      For me the bad out weights the good. Games are to played not to go on auto follow and soak exp while you mainly watch tv etc. If you want your Alt to level do it the old fashioned way actually play it as a main rather then to boxing it along.

    I think the follow command was a nice perk back in the day. I hear/see all these people talking about boxing, botting, pooping and whatnot. Why is that your business? I see it as a way to take a break and have the person not on break lead to the next area. Would love it in GW2 even. Saying that bots would use it is kinda stupid since they don't seem to need it. I've seen groups of bots in certain areas of GW2 and they don't have the follow command. Must be because they don't need it. So...not a factor in follow?

     

    Edit - Should ask....do you people think that the follow command let you gather resources also? And fight? Cause it doesn't. So it might just be for following (I know...hard to grasp) a person around while afk? Maybe?

    I'm glad you asked instead of making assumptions. Having dual boxed Power Leveled myself among other things in some games I can answer this. No, it's not just used for following while afk. 

     

    1) Many use it to power level themselves. Take a higher level healing character or even an equal level healing character on a seperate screen and have them auto follow the character you are going to use to fight with. Need a heal? Simply switch focus onto the screen with your healer and hit your macro then go back to your fighting character and continue on. 

    2) In a game with more action oriented combat that requires you to manually aim at things, auto follow allows you to lock on and follow thus negating the manual aim the game requires. It can easily be added to a variety of macros that would make manual combat a trivial thing. 

     

    What people think is that it can and has been abused in the past. Why would this game be any different?

    The best argument in favor of autofollow is so you can go to the bathroom while another player continues to run you to your destination? That's it?

    If that's the best you can come up with, then my vote is a resounding "NO".

    You don't need something to automate any aspect of the game, and that includes traveling. What do you do when there are enemies around? What if you're in a dungeon? You wait. There's no reason you need some special command for walking around while AFK.

    This isn't even about botting. It's about laziness. You don't need macros, and you don't need autofollow, especially not for combat purposes as the OP asks.

    Guild Wars 2 was the most botted MMO of all time.  I agree with the reply of the person that stated it.  Guild Wars 2 never had a follow command.  It wasn't removed, it never had it to begin with.

    How can someone following another player while afk soak up exp in pvp/pve if the one following is not attacking or casting anything?  Are you assuming they are in the same group?  If so, you're saying that someone grouped with another person getting shared experience is abuse?  I don't quite follow how you're saying it leads to abuse, sorry.

    There is no bad to having a follow command in an MMO.  As stated, by having the follow command, it doesn't allow any kind of abuse.  Abuse of game mechanics happens through other means.  If the follow command allowed more abuse, the MMOs with it would have more abuse than those without it.  But it has already been proven with Guild Wars 2 that's not the case.

    There is a bad to NOT having a follow command.  The bad is...   No follow command leads to an MMO that is not on par with other other full fledged MMOs on the market.  Especially one that has a subscription.  If ESO is going to have a subscription without a follow command, it will have severely lacking functionality that exists in other MMOs today and ones released many years ago.

    Why not include the features and functionality expected in a subscription based MMO?

    Ahhhh auto follow back in the day I remember an entire raiding party of 30 - 40 people dieing because we were on auto follow to get to the Temple of Veeshan only problem was we were auto following a monk. Who forgot that not all classes had high safe fall ... Raid wiped before even reaching the dungeon door.

    I agree.

    For every 1 player that requests the follow command because they might have to "pee" there are 10,000 players that will abuse it. Anyone that creates a "petition" for a follow command obviously doesn't understand the implications, doesn't care, or wants to abuse game mechanics, tbh.

    If you need to take a break to go AFK, then do it.

    If you can't take a few seconds to use the bathroom or whatever it is you need to do in a short amount of time without still doing something in the game then in my opinion you a bit too consumed there and should probably re-assess your priorities a bit. I love games just as much as the next person, but I can take a few seconds to use the bathroom when I need to. And if you're in a guild or raid that isn't understanding of human body functions, well that sounds just terrible.

    I'm sorry but I don't see any valid reason to have a /follow command.

All the short RL stuff, why keep taking AFK breaks when that 1 team mate can /follow for a few min and deal with it. I get so little time to game I want to get the most out of what I can.

    But you CHOOSE to take those breaks to attend to real life stuff because obviously they are important to you, more important than a game.

    And you're not really getting much out of a game if you're not even in front of the screen playing it on /follow to someone.

    If that's the best you can come up with, then my vote is a resounding "NO".

    You don't need something to automate any aspect of the game, and that includes traveling. What do you do when there are enemies around? What if you're in a dungeon? You wait. There's no reason you need some special command for walking around while AFK.

    This isn't even about botting. It's about laziness. You don't need macros, and you don't need autofollow, especially not for combat purposes as the OP asks.

    Exactly. I understand that problems arise, but it's a game. You can't just have the game play for you while you're doing something else, what do you gain from that? If you sit down to play a game, then play it. And if you don't have the time and have other more important things to attend to, then make the choice to attend to those instead.

    You should actually play a game and not be able to just AFK in it and have it still play for you. That's stupid.

    How does not having the follow command actually prevent that?

    I mean sure, not having it means you actually have to talk to the group if you need to go AFK for a bit.  But if that's a serious burden, I weep for this generation.

     

    Not that I'm explicitly against it.  EvE had something like it... but there it was actually useful there for more than just "I gotta go pee, take us to the next zone."  Here, I'm just not really seeing it's utility except as an enabler for behaviors that I would rather not encourage.   Nor do I see what not having it takes away from the game (again, other than an enabler for behaviors that I'd rather not encourage.)

    Break either of those, and you'll have my support.

    One thing that would make ESO little more mmorpg would be option to preview armor before equiping it ... I dont understand how can developer just forget this option tbh ...

     

    Do ESO have option to change appearance of armor to one we prefer? Or nah thats too next gen feature also ? :)

    By having this option in the game, the play style is open for many different types of players as well as those that don't care to use it.

    Very hard to play without follow command?

    Have you noticed, this game so far was not about convenient choices at all?

    I doubt DEVs will change their vision on request.
