I liked how exploration adds to the value of the dynamic world. Once you complete a given quest, it's worth going back to areas you've previously explored to see what's different: new NPCs, new quests, etc It's quite easy to miss this aspect because of his subtly these changes occur.
Mike, there actually are numbers for XP. If you go to the character screen and mouse over the XP bar, there is a fraction style XP like 2346/10890. I didn't think to check on skill XP bars though.
You get out what you put in is the old saying. If people just run from quest to quest they'll be the ones shouting their disappointment.
Too often now it's a rush to level cap then the cry of there's nothing to do is heard.
I couldn't agree more.
These are the people that also head to forums to post complaints about there not being enough content, e.g. quests, to level. I even heard about one person complaining they'd done all the available quests and only got to level 13 and were they meant to grind mobs to get to level 17. -sigh-
Forum Post count does not = Game Intelligence or Knowledge it just shows how often people like to talk.
reg xp, i figure you would have noticed if you went into a dungoen and got two levels in an hour or something like. (which is what tends to happen in skyrim - just for example)
They didn't really take that long to go through. You do get a guaranteed Skyshard at the end though, and three of those will get you a skill point, so that's pretty significant.
Has anyone seen Foreman Blaise? Teams of players where diligently repairing the bell (if you can repair something with a hammer), but never caught sight of him.
There was a reported sighting around Sunday lunch time in the local coffee shop, but that remains unconfirmed at the time of writing.
An APB was suggested on Monday, but generally agreed that it was probably a bit late in the beta by then.
You know M'aiq the Liar? Well, I'm not going to break the NDA but I did find something that made me mad for a second at lore rape because of characters in the wrong era, then I laughed.
I got the same sense of exploration in this from the single player games, but instead of just looting corpses you find the reward was a cool quest in the ruins or village I wandered into and not a quest I would have ever been led to if I hadn't gone exploring.
OMG there's a bug? Foreman Blaise? In Beta? Light the signal fire, send out the guard, muster the fleet, demand your money back. Oh you didn't pay any. Stand down everyone!
You mean if you play this game for more than 4-8 hours you might learn there is more to it than first meets the eye?
That's crazy talk!
It's not even that, if you actually make the decision to leave the 'rails' of the main quest in the starter areas you can find things to do. One hour in and I was finding quests I never would have been led to only because I decided to check out the building/ruin I saw in the distance.

That is really good incentive right there to do them. I was working on mage builds over the weekend, and I found that because they are quite squishy (what mage isn't in any game) the more skill points I can gather the better.

They have a whole skill tree dedicated to cc. While other classes mitigate damage with armor, they mitigate by not being hit.
Most gamers this days all they want to do is level as fast as they can. Then run around hey look at me at cap level already. l like to enjoy the game take my time and explore and find everything l can, and get the most out of the game. Really what's the hurry. l'm planing of playing this game for a while.

It does not work that way in ESO Yes there are lvls but unless you are powergaming you tend to not even pay attention to that. You also lvl your skills. Additionally you get skill points on top of lvling your skills to use to either add more skills or to "morph" the skills you have into a newer version. Just reading a book (say one on archery) you found on a table in a temple you happen to stumble upon could increase your bow skills.
Magic is impressive, but now Minsc leads! Swords for everyone!
Originally posted by Rockniss While I agree with Judge above you get out what you put in, if you're someone who has played ES games before, you're not used to that $15/month clock ticking away as you stroll at your own pace through in my case, Skyrim. Though I prefer the sub model, it does not fit a game like the ES series provides one with. The ES games are truly a walk in the park rather than a sprint to the finish.
Ya that .50/day is a heavy financial burden to bear. It ages you man. Must...stop...thinking about it..../ack!!
... and for just $0.50 a day, you too can help bring joy to a poor gamer's life. These gamers live without the common, everyday things that we take for granted.
Your monthly donation will buy you pictures of the poor soul that you've rescued from boredom. You'll get regular updates on their characters, their game progress, and any achievements they've collected. But, most importantly, you'll be ensuring that they have an outlet for entertainment for one whole month.
So rather than spending $12.00 on a two hour film, $30 for a night out at a bar, or hundreds of dollars at your local strip club, won't you please think of the broke gamers? Your support is appreciated.
I have read where people had the same good time leveling up, Infact, one guy said hed forgotten to use attribute points (?) and had like five of them at the end of a days play. He'd only spent his skill points.
It sounds like it would be a great game to have alts, since you have at least the three seperate areas to start in. No waiting to start crafting, like other games you need to be x level first. I dont see any rats or bats to kill in these starter areas either, and from the reporter's video no kill xyz times ten. Cant wait!
Lol, I see so many people complaining about how loooooong it took before they could get off the starter island.
I just stare blankly at them...
The only reason why I rushed off the starter island in the last few hours of beta weekend was because I wanted to at least glimpse the next area before beta was done. I could probably have easily spent another day or two on n00b island just exploring every nook and cranny and experimenting with stuff...

yea, 30 bucks for movie and treats where I am for one person. I'll drop that 15/mo for the game and wait for the webview for the rest....

Well that makes two of us. I am sure within the first couple of hours of beta I will hear "Can someone level me up? How do you level quickly in this game?" I've heard it since M59 and DSO days. This will be no different, and I will enjoy my time there. It looks awesome.
So unlike previous ES games, lvling wont make racial gear redundant? like in skyrim higher lvls you are pretty much using daedric or dragonbone. So you can have a Orc style sword made out of ebony etc?
I was a avid SWG player for most of it's existence and ever since it was shut down I have been seeking a game that would at least come close to the sand box with serious crafting that I can do as much as running quests.
I think ESO is as close as I can get to that goal. I played the BETA and had a blast. I didn't level anything higher than level 8 but I played around with Character Builder and test drove about 12 character types.
I was displeased with the seemingly rabid attack on the game as a "Boring, ordinary MMO title". Many of these blogs or Youtube editorials are based on a very limited time frame and a minimal amount of players in the press only test run.
I'm an older gamer and I think the generation gap between myself and the Gen Z players is the requirement to level a character to cap level in as few of days as possible. ESO is built to NOT promote this activity as you will miss a large part of the games appeal.
This game does allow you to wander where ever you want for the most part, I read somewhere that this game is the type that you can select a compass direction any just go that-a-way and you will find quests and things to do.
BUT the crafting segment is the one I really like. I think it would be wise to create a crafter and a separate warrior character so you can use those precious skill points solely on crafting perks.
I can foresee me not running a quest everyday but instead going mat collecting and gathering required items to build the best and baddest armor and weapons. I love the idea of this, not only for the economic advantages but also the prestige of have my "brand" worn by the greatest warriors in Tamriel!
Oh I am getting more and more excited as the days go by... Can't wait for Early Access to begin.
I read some other reviews that they are saying the starter areas is boring and i found my self very confused about this because i enjoyed a lot the 1st area as Aldmeri Dominion..maybe because i liked a lot the look of the world and explored everything discovering treasure maps, hidden caves, guests with great story and materials to craft cool looking armor different from the others.
Now im on the fence with my self if i dont know how to play a mmo & im doing it wrong or the others doing it right & we must rush a mmo and hit max lvl in one day.
I think this may stem from the pacing of the first 10 levels. As Michael has stated, the game starts kind of slow. It didn't click for him until level 10. Most MMO players today are conditioned to go from 1 - 10 in 4 hours or less. I wish I could say more, unfortunately I can only talk about what Michael has reported, I am still bound by the NDA and can't relate my experiences.

On a slightly different note -

I completely agree, if you run on a rail from quest to quest your gonna miss a ton of stuff in this game.
I also loved the changes I could see from a piece of crafted armor level 1 to level 8.
I explored everything, I literally spent an hour running around just unlocking chests and gathering material...
Needless to say I really enjoy this game... and yes I pre-ordered after playing this last weekend!!

Doesn't Zenimax at least you press guys some more pics? They are the same two in every article
