NEED a good MMO.

I've been away from MMOs, and this site for the most part, for 7 months. Now that I have enough time on my hands I am desperate for a good MMO to play. Not that I haven't been desperate for a good one for a loooooong time. Maybe I'm just an addict.

Anyways, there are a few requirements I have. If you can think of a game that meets them please do tell. Minimal instances. Nothing ruins the feeling of immersion as being sucked into a world where only 5 people exist to accomplish a linear goal. Also there should be good PVE. If I can run around killing everything in sight for 10 minutes straight then I am just slightly over powered. There should be teamwork involved. Healers should't deal large amounts of damage and people dealing large amounts of damage shouldn't be taking hits. Being dependent is key. P2P. F2P is junk, even if it is the wave of the future. Death penalty. Failing has consequences. Who cares if you have to spend a little to repair your armor. Restricted insta travel.

I don't care about how it looks or if it has PVP or not or how much "character customization" (which has no consequences) it has. Story since it has been done very well in some games(FFXI, Everquest) and terribly in others (like WoW, SWTOR, TSW).

I see a lot of talk about ESO. I'm also curious about Darkfall Unholy Wars. Don't have a clue what else is out there.

Did you just say the "Story" of Everquest was done well?

Everquest had no real story until maybe Legacy of Ykesha. Even then, it was thin.

And what exactly is wrong with WoW's story? I'd argue it's had the best story-telling of any MMO to date.

As for your topic.. there are no good games currently out. If you don't like WoW, or the older games like DAoC/WoW, you're out of luck. Darkfall is gutter trash, and Guild Wars 2 is boring.

Wildstar is pretty good, but I personally enjoyed TESO the most, and will be buying/subscribing to that.

Darkfall is mostly pvp from my understanding, so if you arent into that, take a pass.

TSW and TOR were bad with story but EQ was good?  Cant agree there, or even wrap my head around it, but I guess personal taste?

Nothing out right now that meets your requirements, maybe ESO?  not sure how much instancing is going to be present.

Wildstar maybe?  But there you have classes that either Heal/DPS or Tank/DPS, depending on spec/gear/traits ect, there isnt a 'pure' class like in old school eq.  Also they may be doing the old WoW dungeon instancing thing, not sure.

Nothing else in the near future, you might have to wait a few more years for one of the kickstarter MMOs to come out.

Danger Dolan does commentary rather well in describing the whole WoW experience, and it's problems, too.

WoW, does have m-a-n-y quests (over 3k), but the last epic storyline was 2 expansions ago. The best way to explain WoW today is, "When the Lich King died, so did WoW". Ever since Blizzard dances around with a story, and even borks it to rush out a raid before even more players leave after sheer boredom of ZA and ZG for 6 freaking months. Or worse, the rep quest grind in MoP that was universally hated as much as Dragon Soul.

When players said they didn't mind epic quest lines and good grinding, they weren't talking about 5.1.

Everquest had TONS of lore to read on the official website and background information. After reading the lore you understood more about why things were the way they were in game.

I never played DAOC and I can't stand a thing about WoW. TESO has instance dungeons so I wont play it.

The story in TSW was garbage. Just because there is dialogue or a story doesn't mean it is good. I saw my friend play TOR and thought it was trash too.

If you want a great story driven game for your character it's definitely TOR as it lets you make choices that effect your personal version of the overall story.

Other games had great lore but no interesting story in game to support all that work done on the website. Example EQ, SWG
