Is it just me or is there a Google ad-bar on the Fallen Earth site?????

That is a slightly worrying indicator as to their financial state isn't it???

Makes sense to me that they have ads on their site. Like Cthul said, just a way for them to make money. Sony has ads on their sites as well, but it doesn't mean they are going out of business. It is just common practice I suppose you could say.

So speaks somebody who doesn't work in the media I would guess.

Putting advertising on your site is a very good idea, particularly if you get a large amount of traffic, it's basically free money. Putting up a Google ad-bar on your site what mods and fansites do - because they have no funding, and do not attract proper advertisers.

A Games Studio needs to present a professional image and this isn't doing that - it makes the thing look like a mod. If they want advertising then get some proper banners on, you'd have to be spectacularly naive to insist that what is on there now looks professional.

Honestly, does it matter? They put google adverts up, maybe they are running out of money, doesn't that just mean they've spent large amounts of money on making a super l337 game for us to play?

I hate to cause any sort of ruckus about this, but I agree with VenerableD. Putting an ad-bar on their site seems uncharacteristic of them. Its not just that, but the fact that the way they implemented it looks pretty tacky... definintely not very professional. I can only hope its a temporary job, and that a rework of the site is on the way.

Not sure why everyone is so concerned over their advertisements just yet, since we have no firm idea when they are thinking of launching anyway. Let alone a "firm" beta. From the sounds of things they are self-funding this whole project that is Fallen Earth.

I hope they get into a full-scale marketing program as they get closer to launch too. But, I am not going to hold that against them, since it is coming straight out of their pockets.

To me, they are just spending more of their time on building Fallen Earth and not their website. Time is money after all. At some point they will want to do more advertising, but I'm sure a startup gaming studio does not have the kind of resources ( human as well as monetary capital ) that a more mature studio might have, or one sponsored by partners with capital to invest.

I tried to dig something up on Icarus' partners, if they have any, but I was unable to find anything. But, I am not doing any hardcore searching. So, who knows hehe

All this negative talk has really got me feeling uneasy. I may need a drink. I guess if Icarus needs the help we could always form a RL clan and start whoopin some a$$ and mugging people then just wire the money to the boys in NC.

No more bad talk about FE. This game is gonna rock.

    Good luck and Bob speed,

The websites not had its redesign yet so why bother spending ages placing a decent banner when you can stick that up and get some money rolling in straight away before the redesign?

    Have some faith

  • sinothsinoth Member Posts: 175

Faith isn't the issue here.. I'm still as much a fanboy as the rest of you :)

I just don't want new people seeing the current website and thinking that Icarus is less professional than they are. A few quick bucks is nothing compared to credibility and new fans.

Never fear, they have their die-hard fans here at MMORPG.com to fill in the holes in the meantime image

    Well, something like that hehe

But, you're right. I would hate to see them hit launch and have a less than expected turnout that fuels them for the possibility of a buyout by some mature studio ( like the MMOG-buying fiends at Sony image ). Not that I think that is going to happen, or Icarus would let that happen. But, I hope they can find some partners/investors to help share the burden along the way, if it is necessary.

    Exactly...

Icarus has made it clear that they are putting all there resources into making the game. The website was a quick one put up solely for the purpose of quick info. It's being re-designed as we speak. If you have been visiting the site often, you would notice that it's been modified a bit from the original state.

Expect the new website up and running sometime early or late...... ? ::::01::

Ok so the site for FE doesn't seem to have alot of love put into it, but if you check out the Icarus site it seems to be pretty well put together. I don't really care for the gamesite myself all I really want is more screen shots.

I thought eq2 was tacky the way they advertised kingston memory chips and nvidia when you loading up the game to play it.
  • CthulhuvongCthulhuvong Member UncommonPosts: 433

    Yea, that is bad.

Kind of funny that you mention that about EQ2. Most games now are putting those kind of advertisements in their introductory sequences/movies/startups. Even though I hate SOE with a passion, which I am sure is something most of us here have in common, I can't say that SOE is alone in being the only company to do that.

It is just another way to make money. image Which, unfortunately, was more or less SOE's only concern.

    Well, seemingly at least.

Since most game companies  are putting ads now directly into their games, I don't find putting one on their website that big a deal, it's when you see Coke,Mcdonalds everywhere inside a game world you pay to play then it starts to get annoying.
