Do I expect developers and publishers to do everything to my liking? No.
There's no message I can send that will tell them that, unless I don't buy the game that I consider worth my time and money - which would be a false message and it would hurt myself and change nothing.
I kind of agree with this.
Honestly OP, I think the rant is yours because you and people who think like you are angry that not everyone shares your opinion/stance on the matter.
No I am not angry. I see myself no longer part of this addictive cycle of escaping reality.
I just see the continuum of mistakes gamers do by blindly consuming. The frog in the hot water is a perfect example.
So what your saying is those who don't think and act like you are not dealing in reality and are no better than a frog in boiling water? You must be from the all about me generation? Just because I may not share your views on this game doesn't mean I'm wrong and your right. To think that is self centered. I think this comes down to it being a P2P and not F2P or even a B2P business model. Had this been either those I'm sure ESO would be looked at by many on here as the next best thing since sliced bread.
P.S. Your frog in boiling water describes most F2P games quite well.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
I just see the continuum of mistakes gamers do by blindly consuming.
Your assumption that all (or most or many) gamers are consuming blindly is an insult to just about everyone.
Just because i choose to have a Coke once in a while doesn't mean that i'm completely ignorant of it being both unhealthy and fattening. But once in a while, I feel like it anyway and accept the consequences.
Buying an MMO is not heroin addiction. It's a $50 purchase for a month and if you don't like it after that, you'd done with it. Just by the nature of their design and amount of development that goes into them, even some of the worst MMOs still provide vastly more entrainment content for the first month (box cost) than their competitor single-player games. When you compare them to other entertainment options, they're stupidly good value.
I've yet to buy an MMO (and i've bought quite a few bad ones) that provided me with less raw hours of fun than even the best single-player RPGs. They're excellent value, regardless of their longevity.
If you look up my last 50 or so posts on ESO, you'd probably find that they're 75% criticism. There are tons of design decisions in the game that i dislike or disagree with. But the game is still fun enough to buy and play for a month.
As far as the imperial edition fiasco, i've said elsewhere that it's just bad marketing. Personally, if i they gave me the option to give up one available race for an $5 savings, I would buy the game for $5 with only 1 playable race, since htat's all that is need to play the entire game to its fullest. I don't need to play through the game on 10 different races or to have a special white horse.
If i was a huge ES fan, I would probably be happy that there is that option available to me for an extra $20 and i would be happy to buy it. But as a regular MMO player, I simply don't care about a 4th human race with roman-style armor which i can buy from other people anyway.
So i'm happy that i am able to spend $20 less than the CE costs and enjoy the game to its fullest anyway - even if it's only for a month. After a month of play, if i don't like it, i won't sub. And if i don't, the original $50 that i've spent on it will STILL have been worth it for that one month of fun.

We will buy Elder Scrolls Online with the 1 reason:
There is currently nothing better on the market, and we are craving for something!!
This is actually why many people are buying and playing ESO, not because it really is worth it, but because they have nothing better to invest their time in.
Same is true for most titles in the past 5 years, people play them for a lack of a better choice, not because they really like them. (as evidence, see how many people leave after the first month or two)
Then the cycle starts again with the next upcoming title, the hope that it will provide better entertainment than the last.
At the end of the day, these games are cheap investments, and no wallets are really harmed so what does it matter?

First: I've played Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. I've created and played characters of every race, except Imperial. The only digital item from CE that I care about is the horse. I'm much more interested in physical CE.
Second: There is very good reason that I am interested in ESO at all; it is an Elder Scrolls game and Bethesda is behind it. I don't care that it's done by Zenimax Online, not some other Zenimax, Bethesda and all of Elder Scrolls franchise is still behind it. It's succes or failure wil be Bethesda's and Elder Scrolls succes or failure. Elder Scrolls is one of the best RPG game series and I've spend 100s of hours playing it. I'm still playing it. Why would I not play ESO?
Third: How is adding a race to CE, of a game that is already in (almost) open beta, considered bad practice, but selling some founders packs, full of items that give in-game advantage, or acces to alpha versions for 100s of $$, as a way to found a game, doesn't seem to bother anybody?
They can charge extra money for a race, becouse it is Elder Scrolls. This is one of the consequences of creating a franchise, something that is known and loved by milions of people. They worked for years on creating it, now they say: "If you want to play it, than you have to pay us this much". How is this unfair? If it wasn't worth that much, they wouldn't be selling it, becouse nobody would buy it. They have every right to sell their product for a high price, becouse of what they did in the past. It's really simple.
Also, I will buy CE and ride around, on my magnificent imperial steed, in my glorious imperial armor, just to show my superiority and make everybody that haven't bought it feel miserable.

Becouse I'm a human - that's what we do.
They can ask whatever price they want, depends if they will get enough consumers to buy it. Looking at what happened to most mmorpgs lately, I am not as optimistic as a lot of fans on these forums. Regarding your last few sentences - looks very much like something peacocks do too, no reason to be so "proud" of this "quality". Also buying something only because of a craving - that sure seems like an addiction symptom. Funny that if Blizzard would have tried something like this (selling races or the possibility to play human as part of the horde) a lot of teso defenders would have attacked it.
I don't consider it "escaping reality" any more than going to the gym is escaping reality or going out to dinner or practicing.
My reality is pretty good why would I escape it? Do I like filling my time with fun engaging activities? yes. Do games fulfill these activities? sometimes.
Do I play games I find fun? yes. Do I stop playing games that are no longer of interest? yes. Do I do my "due diligence" before I buy a game? Yes.
ESO is a non issue to me, I find it fun and will play it until I no longer find it fun. /end story.
Excellent point that I agree with 100%.

It is. And so far 90% of the posters on this thread reflect my personal experience which I have expressed in the initial thread: Feeling and seeing themselves utterly helpless and more or less as victims.
"I am a victim because I apparently see myself in a need to consume such a form of media and you (the developer and the publisher) can do with the product you present to me whatever you want, as long as you present me a finished product with which I can bridge / kill time."
The voice that a gamer has, is his consumist desicions in Buying or Not Buying a product.
A Yes or a No to all the decisions that lead to the finished product you are about to consume.
You have all the information now presented infront of you that needs to be addressed by simply not buying ESO (at this stage) and show the correct feedback to the Publisher Bethesda.
We have said this many times to you before and at a certain point you have to make decisions for yourself. The consequences of simlpy buying the product and feeling helpless, which you are not, will follow and present themselves to you as a further reduction in quality and a further limitation in terms of gaming freedom.
Just try it out how it feels for you right now: Picture yourself not buying Elder Scrolls Online for exactly this reason of not following the trend presented by Bethesda's business model in selling the title. Can you feel your addiction and that you are so weak, mentally, that you will buy it any way?
This, is the power the game industry has over you.
If you feel less to no movement in emotions, then you are many steps ahead of the crowd. And have learned.
You've ranted a LOT about not buying ESO, yet have not given ONE REASON as to why gamers should boycott.
Are you being paid by Blizzard or something?
Also, your 90% is rose tinted glasses. Most disagreed with you in some way.
So here's the real deal. If you want to play ESO, buy it. If you don't want to play it, don't buy it. If you are concerned about the approach being taken in ESO, either hold off on buying it, or buy it and give the devs feedback.
Your posts really are coming off as being paid for by ESO competitors, though...

I just really don't understand the imperial thing. They don't get a special starting area and they are not more powerful than the other races. If you really want to look like a classic imperial soldier, any race can wear their style of armor, even though I imagine you will just wear whatever is the best that drops in pvp or pve anyway. The other races can craft the imperial style armor so that means nothing. It's a skin on your character. You could probably make a Breton or nord look just like one.
I guess I'm just missing something. I think it's the least interesting of all the pre-order bonuses and everyone makes it seem like it's the end of the world. If you want to complain about anything, complain about the rings you can wear when grouped with a friend for an xp bonus. At least that's a real advantage in the game.
Oh and on a side note, I admire your passion for the subject but if use of basic marketing tactics in a for profit business makes you feel this insulted, affronted, and taken advantage of, you might want to try really hard to avoid any kind of real problems in life.
As an adult consumer with a job and disposable income I made the decision to pre order the box Imperial Edition.
Why? Because I like the game, have many RL friends who are playing it, and based on my Beta experience can see many many hours of fun with my buddies in game. Well worth the cost to me and I dont mind spending money on something that will yield many hours of entertainment.
Honestly it's pretty simple, I was already gonna buy the game so when they showed us the perks you could get for 20 bucks more I said why not. So your right it's on me as to whether I think I got a good deal or not.
In all honesty, I've been defending ESO against the irrational criticism every time simply because I really believe most criticism didn't make sense.
But this class advantage in the CE is really bullcrap.
Seriously, what advantage are all of you talking about? Not Google, not Bing, not Yahoo have been able to point me to a place that gives the racials for Imperials. All of you are making up some huge advantage for this race in your heads and then complaining about a problem that doesn't even exist yet. In all likelihood, Imperials will just get a selection of passives that already exist in other races. Oh no, they'll have bonus to health AND stamina! How could they! The Imperials only value will be for a distinct look and Rping. Get over it. This game looks way to good to miss for something this minor. Pre-order the Imperial Boxed set and am waiting eagerly for March 30th to come.
Zenimax is not going to feel prosecuted by its consumers if they buy regular versions of the games instead of the collectors packs. The collectors packs are supposed to be special, if they were not, then where would the true "thank you" be? A statue that you can look at occasionally, is that enough? No, "here is an entire race to enjoy the game as. Thanks for your support!" It's the nature of gamer's to cry out and complain at what we don't get. We use terms such as "pay wall," "pay to win," and other euphemisms to express our discontent towards developers who are appealing to their emergent upper class. If you don't think it exists, you're fooling yourself.
I did not pre order the collectors edition, but I did get the standard digital version. I'm happy with my head start game time!
What I was going to say was already said. I use my money the way I see fit, if you don't like that then I guess you will have to mug everyone in a dark alley somewhere to keep them safe from their own decisions.
Only way to act unless you are hopelessly addicted to playing new mmos
Unfortunately, so many games have proved that this is exactly what the MMO crowd is; addicted to the new and shiny, allowing scummy publishers to rake it in on launch even if a majority of players don't really like the game yet but are hoping it will turn into their pink fluffy dream.
Meanwhile the actually good MMOs that aren't pre-digested and follow the norm get waysided, like The Secret World.
In all honesty, I've been defending ESO against the irrational criticism every time simply because I really believe most criticism didn't make sense.
But this class advantage in the CE is really bullcrap.

Not that I want to take this personally, but I'll just say it anyway. It's the first time I bring this up. So it's not something I have been complaining about all the time. In fact I have been quite positive for everything else.
I still think it's bullshit. CE giving access to major content elements such as a race is wrong in my opinion.

Not that I want to take this personally, but I'll just say it anyway. It's the first time I bring this up. So it's not something I have been complaining about all the time. In fact I have been quite positive for everything else.
I still think it's bullshit. CE giving access to major content elements such as a race is wrong in my opinion.
