This doesn't make for much reading.

90% actually wrong you say? Get to countering then.

One of the big hurdles IMO is, that the starting impression is just not good. The linear experience in the realm of Molag Bal is really just boring. You'd think escaping from a demonic realm should be exciting or nerve wrecking, only it isn't. And a boring start is never good. What ESO is definitely missing is the sense of real drama. I mean, there is a world war going on and a giant demon lord invades the world. Yet somehow, the drama and the war always seems to be somewhere else, and you somehow always arrive after the event and you can kill a few leftover dudes. In very few phasing events I was able to feel a real dramatic invasion feeling. But overall a lot of the huge landscapes are just too empty, too less filled with stuff, unlike as a positive example the Rift invasions. They gave Rift the feeling that there is really serious stuff going on, when multiple fire realm demons invaded the peaceful villages, THAT felt dramatic. But in ESO it is strangely absent, like always just in hearsay distance.

Not really sure I agree with most of what you put but I REALLY agree with this part.

This is the one of the worst parts of the starting game. The start.

    And it doesn't make sense.

You awaken in a cell and you get a text saying "explore the cell". Of course you find nothing. I assume this is for you to test out movement.

Then an apparition appears and tells you that you will have to escape and then someone unlocks your cell and you escape with the rest of the npc's and depending on where you are, players.

    That part is fine.

What isn't fine is that you run in a straight line to a place that has any weapon you want. You can only take one set. First of all, where are the other cells? Why are there these random skeletons just hanging in the middle of the hall and not in a proper torture room? And why are there weapon racks so easily accessible if a prisoner does escape right after that? Any door you find doesn't work or lead you anywhere.

You then go in a straight line (or better said linear path) to an open area with other players where you are told that you have to destroy some watchful eye. Sure there are some things that can attack you but when you get to the eye you suddenly have a hammer in your hand (where did  you get it?) and you hit the eye with one shot and destroy it. No guards for this eye? I know there are some fire daedra around (incidentlaly, off subject, the daedra you summon are purple/blue. why? They look ridiculous) but no guards.

You then run to find John Cleese singing a rendition of "one dark day in the middle of the night" (which I actually liked and I actually do like his part in this) and then he tells you of a secret way.

How secret can it be as it's the ONLY TUNNEL THAT LEADS OUT OF THAT CAVERN OTHER THAN THE ONE YOU CAME IN!"

    It's just badly done.

I actually enjoyed the starter "area" once you escape from Molag Bal's realm (unlike other players) but this first starter area is lackluster, no sense of danger and you just run in a "straight line" being given tidbits along the way. I guess it's a tutorial but honestly, I could have done without it or it could have been done in a more engaging way.

There were a awful lot of inaccuracies, but regardless a lot is just that, opinion. He sees a boring palette I see one perfect for what I would expect in an elder scrolls world. I've tried to show him that some of his minor points like a minimap will definitely be added by modders, just like so many UI things were improved with Skyrim, but the OP, who pretty much has similar review with every game he plays, tends to nit pick on the little things and blows things out of proportion. I also think a lot of points were signs he really didn't group at all., or even try to. The only thing I agreed with was his opinion on the quests. Anyway I still love your Avatar and I hope within the next 30 years you'll find a game you'll stay with. Maybe you need a Occulus Rift? Lol

    There Is Always Hope!

I didn't catch that.  But seriously, you were inaccurate in manyt of your negative opinions.  I hope you read up on some of the issues and change your mind.

At release - this games foundation is solid - by that I mean - the PvP, graphics/vid lag, general PvE enviro, crafting, classes and on .... I see none of the core mechanics as "broken" i.e. being unable to be enhanced & evolve after release.

People saying "older" / mature people like us are hater because they easily see all the flaws of the game, anyone can easily understand in this video how disappointed you are, and so i am as disappointed as you with the state of the game.

I don't remember ever seeing you get your ire up, Sovrath. I do agree with you wholeheartedly though. The only saving grace to the beginning is that it's mercifully short. Who knows, maybe there will be a huge replacement of the entire beginning just before opening day (no......sadly not). Or an option to skip the intro once you've done it. Again sadly, an unlikely possibility.

One thing I was curious about was Elikal getting lost....the comment about the maps. Using the map/quest pointers which should be marginally familiar to people who have played the single players had me running in the right general direction most of the time.

I did LOL at the screenie with the guy yelling I DID YER MOM LAST NIGHT or something to that extent.

Quest rewards already are something for everyone tho, you can use any armor and any weapon no matter what class you play. You dont want to use them ? Well thats your fight :) I for one used that oppoturnity to try different play styles. Im not saying ESO is great or anything, but all those things you are talking about seems to me like minor problems compared my dislikes about the game. IMO even in this form, this is still better than "another MMO clone + ESO skin" you would like to see.

It's funny, I don't normally get "ired up" but the very first time I played it, the very first time I "escaped I noticed that the entire first sequence felt like "a ride".

It's sort of like how bioware makes "cities" but they sort of seem like "sets" instead of feeling like cities.

if you think about oblviion that had a rather "linear" start as well and if you really think about it "where did the goblins come from?" (I always thougth I'd make a mod expanding the oblvion tutorial to make more sense as a place) so it's not unlike ESO's, but ESO's start just feels wrong and very deliberate. Whereas Obvlivion's start masks its linearity reasonably well.

It doesn't feel like you are escaping (and yes I realize it's a tutorial) but it feels like you really are going from one "room" (or space) to another and the entire thing doesn't really work. It's just silly. Agiain, when I destroyed the eye with a hammer I jumped back in my chair with a "where the hell did I get that?".

Another thing I noticed is that you eventually rescue the person whose avatar/spirit visited you in your cell. But if you look around there is a LOT of space for just one prison cube. It's as if the prison was solely made with your cell and his prison cube and some sort of middling "town"/squatter area that doesn't really feel like it's anytihng but a set.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the game just fine (with other criticisms) but that whole starter experience needs to be redone. It's not exciting, it doesn't feel "right" and they took what could have been a compelling bit of "theater" and did nothing with it.

Guys . . . it's a 10 minute tutorial area. This thread takes longer to read than it does to play through it. I can't believe people are still going on about it.

but I feel it's sort of indicative of "other things".

For instance I was in two of the "public dungeons" and they were essentially a loop.

And they felt like a "loop".so far the dungeon design hasn't really impressed. though it is very possible they get better.

However, regardless of it being 10 minutes (or however long) we are talking about a first impression and for me it wasn't a great first impression.

    Your mileage may vary.

edit: and before the "well we won't see you in game" comment raises it's head, I happen to like the game very much (despite other criticisms) these are just a few of the things that jumped out at me.
