hi,
finally there is a forum for this unique game, so is there any news of what is happening with the team, forums, or any releasing plan?

Is anyone else here a little irritated about the lack of info coming about the game. I know they want to keep a low profile, but this is bordering on rediculous. The last bits of info (and the last update to their website) was almost 2 months ago.

If they starve us for info too long, our intrest will die.

    Games Tried:
    Everquest (not a power gamer)
Earth and Beyond (kinda fun, kinda boring)
    Planetside (rather play Counter-Strike)
Lineage 2 (see Everquest above, plus too many PKers and Bots)
Guild Wars [E3 trial] (Not too bad from what I saw, nothing very new though)
Eve Online (somewhat fun, somewhat repetetive)

    Waiting for:
    Fallen Earth (Post-apoc just rules!)

well there was a similar lack of info for city of heroes during development, but it seems to be doing pretty well now. personally, i think its better to keep a low profile than to release massive amounts of info on features that may or may not be part of the final game. agreed though, just a little more information would be nice.

I think this could mainly be due to the fact that they're deep in a development phase right now. Perhaps trying to get a playable product for next year's E3? I believe they must have a reason for keeping us in the dark this long. So here's hopin' it's a good one! image

That could be true, though from what the GameMethod.com preview said, it sounds like the game is already playable, just not complete in some areas. For example, NPCs already have voice acting and full animation done. I like how they said the scripting of the NPCs would be more like Half-Life 2 and less like Everquest. HL2 has a more realistic and better scripting than Everquest ever could.

As far as the lack of information: Yes, it can be annoying but I think they just want to be able to concentrate of the game itself instead of concentrating on questons, forum and website updates and so fourth.

In the end, if it helps make the game even better, then I'm all for it. I have been waiting for ages for a game like this and I think it will be well worth the wait.

Here is another post on a website I found with 26 different screenshots. Should give you a nice confidence boost in the boys at Icarus if you haven't seen them yet.

my guess is that when the redesigned website goes up for Fallen Earth it will come with wealth of new info and be with or close to start of beta.

I found this piece of a thread on a dif website. Not sure how accurate it is but check it out.

    GAMEPLAY:

The game will be played from first person view, all the time. I belive this will add more depth to the game, as you will actually see what the character sees. There will not be any fancy floating cameras, and I think that is a good. There havent been any good MMORPG's that you play in FPS view (well, there is Neocron2 but..). The game is also zoneless, no weird loading times, just pure gameplay.

I'm sorry but I cant tell much more about the gameplay, since I have not played the game yeat. The closed beta should start soon tho, so I will edit this thread with more information when it's available.

    I found that at  http://forums.livingwithstyle.com/archive/index.php/preview-fallen-earth-t223041p1.html

I was really hoping for first and third person vew, i thenk that is the best.  I use first person 90% of the time, like for combat and stuff.  but when i want to have my charecter do something acrobatic or just want to see my charecter doing something i go to third person.
  • CthulhuvongCthulhuvong Member UncommonPosts: 433

Yea, I wouldn't trust the accuracy of this site. Seems like most of it is just guess work off of reading the features page from the main website. He doesn't say where he gets this info, so my guess is that this is just his guess. Some previews have stated that it will be point and click, but I can't remember seeing anything that says it will be first person only.

Cthul is right. The game, from the designers own mouths as a matter fact, features both 1st and 3rd person veiw. I wish I could say this with 100% accuracy, but that is what was described to me in answer to an email I sent them about it. Many people in this forum have sent emails to Icarus, and some of them have shared the content from their emails.

So, anyway, anyone who posts that the game is going to feature this, or is going to feature that, really doesn't know. Icarus has not given us enough information to know what is really going to firmly be in their game yet. I can only hope what they have relayed to those of us that have sent them messages, is accurate.

That yahoo that wrote that article over there in your link needs to check his sources image It appears that most of his write-up is just cut and paste from some other source. Plus, with his own thoughts on it. Since Icarus has not really given anyone much at all to go on outside their newsletters, there is no way the information in his article is accurate. In his own words the article is cut and paste from other sources with his own thoughts on the game added in.

It's not even creative image (except for the part where he says it will be 1st person only, all the time. That is not just creative, that is simply off the wall hehe )

I the responses from Icarus to my E-mails, they were not specific at all about anything in the game.  The E-mails were very encouraging, however.  I think that soon some information should be starting to come, but I give them credit for keeping their minds on the game and not on hyping it up.

The biggest question I asked them in an E-mail was how will they make Fallen Earth so good that it will not only complete with the other mmorpgs, but surpass them.  I was satisfied with the answer I got to my question, but was hoping for something more elaborate in terms of gameplay and things like that.

When I last send then E-mails, it was months ago, so I hope that the game has progressed a lot since then, and maybe soon there will be some more info, and maybe even an official forum!

  • drycatdrycat Member Posts: 119

I have to agree with you about the emails. I asked a series of questions and they answered them, but not in great detail other than to say yes, that feature will be in there. Though, they did send me a fairly descriptive reply in response to my question about 1st or 3rd person. That was about 2 months or so ago. The reply they sent describes a veiw that will be switchable by the player at any time. Which, sounds very accomadating.

But, anyway, I hope they keep up the great work there as well. I can only dream of seeing Fallen Earth this year image But, it is kind of nice not having the incredible amount of hype that most games generate about their features/gameplay/etc.. It just means that Icarus isn't making any promises until they know it works image

All of the trailers available at my site clearly show a 3rd person mode and floating cameras - and sources from Icarus have stated that first-person elements/options will be available.

This is true in a technical sense. I would expect areas similar "PvP zones", "buildable zones" and "wilderness zones" (or "areas" to be more explicit) but there will be no instancing.

Wishful thinking - there has actually been no official announcement or confirmation of public beta testing made by Icarus, although in my opinion it is safe to expect one within the year!

    Christophe Watkins stated on 28/11/05
We don't wish to make promises we might not be able to hold, that is why we've been very cautious in what we announce. Beta has not been announced, nor has the selection process for beta.

How else is one supposed to write a compilation or review without looking through the other sources and taking their content? Looking through my "features" section, that's basically what I have been doing; albeit accrediting and linking the sources at each stage.

This comment was intended to reflect the poster's comments on gameplay. Actual gameplay is not yet a certainty, though we all have bits and pecies we were especially concerned over that we had clarified through whatever manner. At any rate, the actual gameplay is not firm enough to even be commented on as being "this" or being "that". Most of what we have are broad concepts with a few peaks, through trailers/newsletters/etc.., into what the gameplay will be like. Essential mechanics might change during beta or subsequent to release. Also, as you indicated, the statement made about Fallen Earth being 1st Person only, really is just off the wall. The "off the wall part" are my own words.

As far as compiling resources by cutting and pasting, the post that I made was not intended to berate this person for cutting and pasting, but to correct the insertion of statements ( his own comments ) that can be miscontrued as fact, and stating them in a factual manner ( meaning they should have been identified as his personal thoughts which you commented on, not to be taken as fact. That kind of posting is simply misleading for the average veiwer/reader). Those kind of statements would be: Closed Beta, the 1st person only comment, etc.. The two listed being the main targets here.

Plus it is a little disappointing to see potential players/followers ( the average user/or the diehard fan - the latter probably knows better than to believe the statements in the reveiwers preveiw ) of Fallen Earth turned off by a misguided preveiwer/reveiwer' article.

I should have been more specific before image  ( I was just feeling especially over-zealous that day, I suppose ) Not often I pull the "yahoo" out to describe something.

Good breakdown on the facts, btw image
