I actually played the game... Twice. While it had it's problems with lag stability, and lag, and stability, it had some nice ideas. The crafting system didn't suck. The dragons wern't too out of balance. and the actual in game unlockable race was there from the start not hyped and then handed out on a silver plater 6 months later.
I quit the first time cuase the game was just too damned laggy, and then agian 2 yers later cuase it still dropped me after a hour or so online.
Lol, so the only game that has a goodbye forum is crashing like a plane with no engine or wings... and you don't think it shows the game is crashing?
No I dont, the effect of having a goodbye forum has no effect of whether the game is crashing or not. People have been predicting the closure of Horizons since before release yet a year later its still has subscribers and is still online. And they just hired a well known fantasy author to do some writing for them. So things may not be as bleak as a lot of people claim.
HZ didnt use to have offical forums owned by the company, they were originally using Tazoon.com's forums before it was no longer supported. The forums there had goodbye section and the same format was used when the community forums were created.
No one knows the number of subscribers, at the end of bankruptcy it was figured they had 13k left. Someone heard that it dropped to 6k after the merge and time afterthat. Looking at the forums, there have been a few hello posts and people reporting seeing more people online. their numbers could be anywhere from 6k to 10k.
And if you look at the development team its quite possible they are close too or at the point of being in the black. They have cut down to about 7 actual developers, their hosting bandwidth is minimum. So lets say they do have 6k subscribers, and at $10 a month. that gives them $60k. Hosting on limelight networks is probally running them around 10k a month. that leaves 50k for other expenses. From the bankruptcy papers it showed that their salaries were rock bottom. so lets just say they are paying out 30k in salaries a month. that still leaves them 20k a month to pay other expenses.
Now I agree they probably are not in the black but they are probably not hemoraging money that bad.
I think we should start a dead pool. Lay wagers when HZ will close its doors. It may just surprise you how long HZ will end up sticking around. I mean look at what it offers. What other game offers a person the opportunity to be a dragon. to fly as one and have your own lair and hoard?
As far as I know HZ is the only one, and there seem to be a lot of people willing to pay money and put up with all the other issues HZ has just so they can say they play a dragon.
They didnt need to, they filed for chapter 11 and wrote the whole thing of, I assume some of it followed to tulga but the majority of the investment is gone and the loosers are the original investors. If bankruptcy works anything in the US like in sweden that means artifact sold Horizons to tulga, for what I assume was a mere fraction of the original investment, AE then settled as much as they could and dissapeared. This means that the only cost for Tulga is the purchase of the game from AE, what that was I really have no clue but it could not have been much. So aside from that money all Tulga needs is to cover their ongoing operation to be running in the green.
You dont really seem to know much about Tulga games buy out of AE. Tulga games was created three days before AE filed for Chapter 11. The reason they did was because they racked up a million dollars in expenses from server costs from Verio. If you were to look at current management with tulga games, David Bowmen is still running the show, its like nothing have happened. Tulga games is pretty much a renamed from AE and was created so mr bowmen could avoid paying for a million dollars. The bankrupcy judge bought it and gave permission for the "buy out" and now verio was screwed over buy their money.

Wasnt that like, exactly what I said?
They went chapter 11 to ditch some costs, or most costs.
Never Said Tulga and AE were much different, it is as you say, pretty much the same company in another outfit.
Does not change the facts on how a bankruptcy works though, and this is sadly common practice in a lot of businesses, go bankrupt -> clear all debts -> bring the customers to a new company with no debts.

Well, what about all of us who don't want to play as a dragon? NEXT!
When a company files for Chapter 11, its not a way to avoid debt. It consolidates the debt and the company would make smaller payments. So a company would still have to pay that money they have owed before they filed it. Its when a company files for Chapter 7 when all their assets get liquidated or sold off.
AE avoided their debt by moving to Tulga games and the bankrupy judge allow it. Filing chapter 11 doesnt make a company debt free. Most of the time when a company merge or get bought out, the debt doesnt just disappear, its still there.
