Looking good! So pumped for launch!

I do wish some of the more practical questions were asked though, such as how viable is it to level up in Cyrodiil to the cap, is there any incentive to do this, how does this balance itself vs pve progression, can you stay geared up while doing so, do you get any cool items and titles, achievements and so on.

With Guild Wars 2 many players were told they could do all of these things in WvW whereas in reality it took hundreds of hours of gameplay to make it to cap, you barely got ANY gear at all, barely any titles or achievements, barely a single thing, while at the same time the pve players were getting drowned in cool armour skins, skill points and awesome progression (by way of comparison!)

    Will ESO be the same?

Also I do find it rather ABSURD that this game  has no damage numbers. I don’t care if it's an ESO game, it’s also an MMORPG. Not having ddamage numbers in an MMMORPG is basically lunacy.

    Holla.

There wont be keep flipping.  he said a level 50 player kill will give better rewards than taking a keep.  So why would you flip keeps when you could defend and make alot more rewards?

Also the map set up helps.  Defending your homeland is easier than traveling far to seige an enemy keep.  Also its about the bonuses you get for controlling keeps but you always need to defend and have your home terrtory keeps for any bonuses to take ffect

One thing that no description does justice to is the size of Cyrodiil. "Frikking humongous" doesn't even do it justice. The size itself with all its hills, valleys, gullies and caves creates natural separators for any solo player or small group that wants to do its own thing.

And there are tons of things to do. Sky Shards to find, repeatable PVP and PVE quests to do, open dungeons to explore and fight over...

The only people who think this will be a keep-flipping zergfest are those who haven't been there,

    Folks, this IS DAoC 2.0

Nice interview. That answered a lot of burning questions about AvA and how it differs from GW2's WvW. I wished they would have said something about the waypoint system and how much it does or doesn't "shrink" the map.

Adjusting points based on relative server populations should balance some of the "off hour coverage" issues, and the scoring for fought over keeps and value of player kill vs capping a keep addresses some of the "karma train" issues.

    On the other hand:

    • new players will get yelled at if they keep "feeding kills" to the other side
    • PvP skill lines = WvW ranks, which rankled some folks
    • bonuses to entice the two "losing" alliances  to focus on the "winning" one doesn't help you much if the superior side fields a 3-1, 5-1 advantage in numbers

That was a good read. Liked that they are looking into bows and melee impact. I'm disappointed you didn't put him on the spot about all these opinions about the starter areas and being forced to start PVP at level 10!

The waypoint system does little to "shrink" the map tbh

The waypoints are inside keeps and you can only travel to them if you own every keep and its resources along the "supply route". You also cant fast travel to them from anywhere you can only fast travel to them from another waypoint/keep. Also the distance between keeps is a lot bigger than most people expect going in

Does this mean that in the end there will be only werewolves and vampires?

I don't think so. Personally, I'm going to dump a lot of points into the Fighters and Mages guild with at least one character. There are a lot of anti Vampire and Werewolf skills in them. I'm going to enjoy exploiting the weaknesses of those types of characters.

A darkness falls type dungeon was promised 6 months ago. If this is not implemented at launch then can I get my money back for preorder since this is a broken promise.

Thank you for mentioning Australians Brian. :)

And yes, anyone smart enough to add we aussies to their guild will be helping themselves keep their holdings 24/7.

Great article. March cant go by fast enough.

    -~-~-

Now if Zenimax were really clever they would allow anyone who has preordered by this weekend (Feb 21st) to start playing (with no further wipes) as of next weekend (Feb 27th) and then keep staggering preorders/entry like this until April 4th. Watch the preorders fly in then.

The game doesn't look like it would need another wipe anyway, just bug fixing and new functionality.

Wouldn't it be cool if you capture a keep, and then you could develop a small village in that keep earning beneits, places to sell wears, rare items etc. maybe even rare and licrative dungeons underneath them.

I agree. I was hoping a group could hold on to the property longer, perhaps generating tax revenue or something.

In lineage 2 you would have access to a specific dungeon for your clan/alliance once you held certain castles. You could also get money and benefits.

Having said that, I do love sieges the best so perhaps that will be fun in and of itself over the long term.

You know, thinking about this a bit further, there's nothing to stop the players setting up a Lineage2 type "Giran mall" in keeps, i.e. make keeps the place you go to buy and sell gear.

Organise a weekly sweep meet in Keep A between 9 and 10 pm etc etc. The only limits are our imagination and our patience :)

I have never seen them promise a DF type dungeon by launch.  Can you provide a source?

No he cant! Because its BS, he tells.

    Hodor!

If they have a DF style dungeon, I'll definitely have to buy this game.  I like the PvP in this game so far.

Sadly, they are diluting the alliances, and will impact the longterm AvA success and staying power of the game.

    Other than that, sounds good.

RvR was always going to be the only reason this game survives, if it survives. It sounds like they might have gotten it down.

Now if only they could get rid of all the phasing and instancing, they might have a shot.

Matt said it at one of the game conventions. It might have been E3. Anyway I looked it up more and he backtracked later and said that they are working on it for a post launch. Which seems different then what this interview is saying. Don't get me wrong I have been looking forward to this game for a long time and have been a big supporter until this interview. That being said after playing several beta's and reading this interview I can say that as of right now this game is not ready for launch. There are just too many major and minor bugs that need worked out. I got the impression from this interview that they don't know what they are doing.  What I got out of this was that we are working on that, we are working on that, we do not know what we are going to do with this, we think we might want to look into that.

With only a little over 6 weeks away from launch there is not enough time to fix the problems in the game. It is playable and fun. It will not be near as much fun as it should be because of the problems it has. As awful as it is I would much rather the game be delayed long enough to fix most of the issues then release a game that is not finished. I want TESO to do great and it may, but I do not think in its current state it will do as well as it could.

They are really pushing the PvP content in this game aren't they? Like it's in my face right now. -pushes it away from my face-

If i didn't know any better, it almost seems like that is really all they have going for this game title.

Which is ridiculous of course, but whenever i see an article regarding this game, -for the love of everything talos-  it's: "PvP this", or "Faction Warfare that"

Why don't they just add 4 more Factions and call it: "Game of Thrones" and be done with it.
