There is room for 50 items... And even withouth crafting it just feels to small
are there any known ways to expand this backpack?
if not, it could become a major irritator.

In the last beta weekend, the first back upgrade (+10 slots) cost 400g.
Second upgrade was 1200g or something around there.
So, yes, you can expand the pack, but it appears to get very expensive very quickly.
Thank you, i knew about the bank, but then when youre deep down in a dungeon and your packs are filled with loot and gathered materials, you can not get to your bank that easilly
Good to know one can expand his bags... I dont care that its expensive, it should be... I hate when things come for free..

Apart from the "Happy Haversack" Vendor maybe people can craft bag expansions. I have no idea as I didn't bother with Crafting.

I upgraded my backpack one time and I am 100% sure it aint 400g because I have not made that much money ingame for the 2 bèta's I was in with still very limited time to play. Think I might have played between 15/20 hours max all together.
But yes you can upgrade your bank and backpack but it will cost ingame money to do so.
But I like the fact that bank inventory can be used for your crafting resources (nothing new but still usefull)
If you sell the mats you get instead of craft you can get the second upgrade, I guess it depends how urgent it is
Upgrading backpack from 50 to 60 items - 200g
Upgrading backpack from 60 to 70 items - 2000g
Upgrading backpack from 70-80 items - 3600g
Upgrading Bank inventory from 30 to 40 items - 1000g
I did not go much further in beta.
In addition, depending on the mount you have, horses can supply additional inventory space (I believe the Draft Horse for 42.5k gold expands your inventory by 10 slots).
And no, no crafts can manufacture bag space...
I actually liked that feature, though yes it could be bigger. Having multiple chars fills it up way too fast.

Yeah. I spent a lot of time giving feedback on this one during and after beta (in the questionnaire.)
There has to be some rational relationship between the variety and quantity of drops that don't stack and the bag and bank space you begin the game with. And here it's out of whack: the variety of unique items is humongous and the storage spaces rather small.
The ability to upgrade both doesn't really fix the issue. Upgrades are expensive and don't give you a whole lot additional space. I started filling up all my space long before I could afford the 2nd upgrades.
And as others already noted, the problem is compounded by the otherwise great feature of shared bank space for all your characters. On a per character basis shared bank space is even smaller.
My suggestions to them was to both, increase the initial bag and bank spaces and to consider doing the GW2 thing for crafting mats where they get their own space that doesn't interfere with your main bank space (well, not unless you're a mat hoarder and you reach individual mat stack limits in that space too.)
