PvP is not a focus for D&Donline.

If they implement PvP at any point, it will never be at the expense of the PvE.  PvE is the target audience and IMO, this is a great thing.  They respect what D&D is on that aspect (and with instanced).

If PvP is a focus for yourself, check Warhammer Online.  It will be georgous although maybe not for me, I will give it a try nonetheless, I like monkeys to.  image

If DDO is done right, it will be the new benchmark for every MMOs to refer to it for a decade.  I don't believe in Turbines, but well, maybe they can prove me I was wrong...anyway, at release the the Damocles's Sword will be all over Turbines, but riches worthy of Kings as well if they do fine.

I agree, pvp in DDO would be a bad idea. The original concept was cooperative game play and pitting players against each other perverts the spirit of the game. There a dozen other games out there that allow for that type of activity, go try them out.

I disagree. I think not having PvP limits Role-Playing options. I think they should just say, "here you have a duel option. We're not going to balance it, and I don't care if a fighter beats a mage every time or vice-versa, here it is don't whine about balance or consequences."

Now an interesting side to that would be to add a set of consequences that could be agreed apon prior to the duel. For instance two fighters want to duel, a trade type window appears and you can add a sword or money or whatever to it. It doesn't actually leave your inventory (so you can still use it during the duel) uless you lose. Then it is automaically transfered to the winner.

    Just some random thoughts.

Have you ever read the forums of a game that has unbalanced PvP ? heck even when it's pretty close PvP whines drown out all other posts.

PnP D&D never focused on PvP and it's RPing never suffered for it, I don't see how online should be any diferent ? If fact I don't really see how PvP improves Rping at all.

I like PvP in a game don't get me wrong, but I don't see DDO ever putting it in.

The reason you never have PvP in PnP is you have a real person working your enemies. A real person that determines how your interaction will go, or how what you say will be taken. You can't do that in an MMO. Having the ability to have real people be the antogonists in a situation would GREATLY imporve RP options.

what kind of options do you have in PvP other then kill or be killed ? PvP is fun but I still don't see it adding to RP. Most pvpers who say they're RPing are really just useing it to grief or act like an ass. The rest just do it for fun.

You're missing a lot of options. You see you have to work with people on opposing sides to create a storyline. We used to do this all the time in SWG.

This line of your post best sums up why they didn't go with PVP I think.    It never happens in PnP D&D.    To add it would completely take away the D&D feel which is very hard to capture in a MMORPG anyways.
